Quote: Hi... I cant get to work liveware 3 under win Xp. When i try to run playcenter, surround mixer, enviromental audio or something i get an error message and the aplication closes. Any sugestions??? Have you tried running it in WIn98/ME compatibilty mode. Find the executable for that program and right click, select properties and Compatibility TAB. Change the compatibility there. Mike

SHIN-MAGUS, VALERY, Have you tried moving your PCI cards around. I find it hard ot believe that everything is wanting to jump on IRQ11 with the Video. I know Windows2000 did that a lot, but I have yet to see it with XP. One thing you need to check is your Motherboard manual. It should tell you what PCI slot is assigned to what IRQ. Do not put and PCI cards in PCI slot 1 if you are running AGP graphics. I would try moving the cards around. Mike

Yeah water is not good for Electrical Components. BTW you say something about DDR. I was just looking at your same exact baord on Pricewatch on Essential Computers. Tehy have it for under 150. Will it support DDR ram as well as RAMBUS(RDRAM)? I know AMD systems backwards and forwards, but I guess I am just alittle intiimidated about a possible switch to intel. I too was running RAID solid, but I have recently gone to One Single drive for the OS, and 2 drives on RAID for backups and programs. Hell I have 5-20gig IBM drives I don't know what to do with them all. I am actually thinking of going RAID0+1, but I want to wait on wheteher I decide to go Intel first. Also I priced the P4's and my gosh they are expensive. 1900 is around 230-250 but the p4 2000 jumps up to the mid-300 dollar range..YIKES! I'll take a 1900 and lose 100mhz..big whoopie and save over a hundred dollars. Mike

Quote: Man dont post stuff when you really have no idea what you talkin about. There are enough rumors goin around about what the average person thinks about hardware. Just sayin Via is the problem is really dumb and non-informative. The other people were right, its because of poorly written drivers/software or non-xp drivers/software. BTW turning off ACPI is dumb if you really use XP. Hey infinite, How bout you look around at some other Forums out there. You will see HOW many people are having issues with Boards that are running VIA chipsets versus ones that are not. The numbers are staggering. Not to say VIA sucks but it sure is funny whenever I hear or read about problems, one of the first things 90% of the time is VIA is in the scheme somewhere. You don't hear of all these problems with people running Intel stuff...coincidenc? I don't think so. Hell, I'm running a VIA based board(see sig) and I'll be damned if I'm gonna defend them. I've had too many problems to offer a defense for VIA. And before you say "Oh how do you know it's your Board?" Well. I can run the EXACT SAME hardware and configuration in my NON-VIA based baord and I never have a problem whatsoever. Mike

Quote: What do you mean by that ? When did you exactly get that warning message ? I assume before the boot sequence actually started... so the BIOS took care of informing you. So you don't really need a software running in the background to be saved by S.M.A.R.T., it just needs to be enabled in the BIOS and if something's wrong we'll get a message upon a reboot. BTW, did you had to press spacebar to continue or the message just appeared and you happened to see it ? Many qestions eh ? I know this technology seems really great and I want to take advantage of it. Thanks I've gotten that same exact thing with SMART enabled. HAd a client call said they kept getting a message when booting saying. BAD BLOCK on HDD, Backup and Replace. It was right, there was a BAd block on the Harddrive. baacked it up, replaced it and everything is fine. Cool.'' Mike

Quote: For the price i paid for this PC i also could have gone for the fastest amd system available at the time but it would have most probably been via based and ive had too many problems with them to use them again. I fix computers all day at work, the last thing i need is to come home and have to fix my own 1. And its not like a 2270mhz p4 is slow Hey M4, how does that Intel run? I remember you posting before saying you've never had any real problems. I just had some flooding in my basement and I "think" (wink wink) My PC got fried...at least that's what the Adjuster from the Insurance is getting told. Actually. My PC was still running while sitting in 3 inches of water on the florr. I shut it down, unhooked it, picked it up and water ran out of it..LMAO. It still runs though. Anywho. I was thinking of making the switch to Intel. All I need is a Board, Processor and RAM. How do you like your setup? I also run RAID and would like a INtel Board with Onboard RAID if possible. Translation...I don't know DICK about Intel Stuff.

You are absolutely right M4 Carbine.(Delta Force?) I couldn't agree with you more. Why do manufacturers keep putting out products with so many comaptibility issues? I guess to make more money. Because in the end, that is what happens. Mayeb I will go Intel next time. For now, I will keep plugging away with this board and setup and see what happens. Al in all, I haven't had any problems other than Video realted with gaming. All APPS and everything else runs flawlessly. Darn fast MOBO too. Mike

Quote: Uhh, I run Via, and only the drivers after the 21.xx caused me problems. I've been able to fix my problem by installing the Via AGP 4.10 patch. I like Via (and am one of the few who will say it). Me too..I liek VIA. If there is a stabilty problem with VIA dn Nvidia, well fix the darn thing you stupid manufacturers. I refuse to go out and buy a whole new system just to get my Video Card to work properly...BS if you ask me. but no one did. As for Nvidia. I have had nothing but problems. Just as the one post on the first page with NV4_DISP.DLL giving me PAGE AULT errors when gaming. It is pretty random though. I have not tried to 4.10 AGP patch yet, but I will give it a try. If it doesn't wrk, I will probably resort to a RADEON rather than replace my MOBO. Mike

Here's what I want to do. I have a few 20gig IBM drives. I have a KR7A-R baord with Highpoint RAID controller. I HAD raid setup on it previosly, but after some stupid mis-haps on my part, I ended up reformatting and going to one Standard drive. Now, I want to Setup RAID again, but I don't want to reinstall WIN XP. I have all versions of norton ghost. Can I create and "image" of my OS now to one of my Backup drives, re-create RAID and then Ghost the image back over to the RAID Stripped drives? Can someone kinda give me some steps to follow? I am runninf NTFS file system on all my drives now including my backup drives. Mike

http://www.aumha.org/kbestop.htm Windows Xp STOP Error messages list. Great resource. Mike
-
YES I finally get to try to help here.... Your error message along with almost every other STOP error message in Win XP and Win 2000 can be addressed here. http://www.aumha.org/kbestop.htm The description of your error is as follows. "Typically due to faulty or incompatible hardware or software. A kernel-mode process or driver attempted to access a memory location to which it did not have permission, or at a kernel Interrupt ReQuest Level (IRQL) that was too high. A kernel-mode process can access only other processes that have an IRQL lower than, or equal to, its own." Uh Yeah..did you get that...well neither did I... Once you go to that site you can link up to this site which helps even more. http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/w2kmsgs/6077.asp That will at least give you the opportunity to troubleshoot it. Mike

Hey enio. I ONLY had problems when I used the drivers from Creative. When I use the Windows XP drivers, it works fine. I also did Windows Update and it automatically updated the SB Live drivers. So I guess the first thing I would do if your having problems, is Rollback to the XP drivers, then run Windows Update and se if there are updated drivers through Microsoft. Mike

Quote: when i do that it seems that they are still there how would know for sure ??? Are you runing Win98? If yes, then go to Device Manager, VIA IDE Controller and Update Driver, during Update steps, Select HAVE DISK and ALL Manufacturers, Select STANDARD IDE controller and basically force it to use that driver. Mike
-
YES, if you re-run the setup for the VIA-4in1's UNCHECK everything during the steps and that WILL uninstall the VIA 4in1 drivers. Mike

I have had nothing but problems with NFS on XP. I can't run in normal mode, I HAVE to run it in 98 compatibilty. Wierd. Others can run it fine in normal mode. Also I can't ALT-TAB out of the game, it crashes every time. One more thing, my USB Force Feedback wheel works fine so I have no idea about your percentage feedback dilemma. Mike
-
Yeah you are probably right, just to be safe, I will more than likely just format everything and set up RAID and install freash load of XP. I have backups of everything, so should only take a couple hours to gget back to where I am now. Thanks. Mike
-
Ok..I got this game running only works Compatibilty Mode 98/ME. But who cares, as long as it works? Well, it doesn't work right for the most part for me and others I know. When running NFS, I cannot ALT-TAB to go back to the desktop. Everytime I do, NFS crashes. There is also a little frame rate problem going on too, not too noticable, but enough to make me wonder. I have 3 other friends running XP and NFS, and they have the same EXACT problem. Cannot ALT-TAB while the game is running. Every other game I have tried, I can ALT-TAB with no problems, BUT I have not had to run any other games in Compatibility mode. Maybe that is the cause???? Mike See Sig for Specs.

Error afetr error. Some days everything works fine. Others, I get errors. Mostly on Bootup or when I switch users. Here's the error : "BCCode : 50 BCP1 : E2FD6008 BCP2 : 00000000 BCP3 : BFB8AE66 BCP4 : 00000001 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 0_0 Product : 256_1 " The error will happen a bunch of times in a row and then go away. I have installed updated drivers for everything, Reformatted and reinstalled windows, ran SIMMTESTER checks on my RAM(passed all tests) Tested ALL hardware in my other PC runnin XP and all hardware is functioning fine. My setup: Abit KR7A Raid 1.33 Athlon 512Mb Corsair PC2400 SB Live! 3Com 10/100 Ethernet GF3 Ti200 I know what everyone is going to say. Via chipsets and Nvidia have issues...well WHATEVER. I ran the same darn setup on my other PC with XP and still PROBLEMS. I ran every piece of hardware in another PC with VIA chipset and still error problems. I ran the same setup on a board with ALI chipset and same probems. So I guess ALI and Nvidia have problems too...well MAYBE just MAYBE WINDOS Microcrust is the problem and they just liek to point the finger at other companies. I have searched the MIcrosoft Database for help and nothing there. I have submitted these errors to their support team and NO HELP. They already have my money so why would they care what problems I have now. If I go back to Win98se I can guarntee that Microsoft will be refunding my money for this POS OS XP. Mike, sorry I was venting and got carried away.

I keep getting this error, 8 out of 10 times I reboot or Startup. BCCode : 50 BCP1 : E279201C BCP2 : 00000000 BCP3 : BFB8AE66 BCP4 : 00000001 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 0_0 Product : 256_1 The following file was created for this error : C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini122601-01.dmp C:\DOCUME~1\Mike\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER1.tmp.dir00\sysdata.xml I think I'm gonna be sick! ANYONE have any idea??? Mike

Actually, I can't take any credit, I got that information directly from Norton's site. Mike

To remove this virus: NOTE: Removal of this virus requires that you have a DOS boot disk or Windows Startup disk, and assumes that you be familiar with using basic DOS commands at the command prompt. 1. Insert a clean DOS floppy disk or Windows Startup disk into the floppy disk drive, and restart the computer. 2. At the prompt type the following two commands, pressing Enter after each one: c: cd windows dir *.exe /a:h All .exe files in the \Windows folder that have the hidden attribute are displayed. NOTE: If Windows is installed in a different location, make the appropriate substitution when typing the first command. 3. Look for a file with a size of 10,240 bytes. The name of the file is generated by taking the computer name on the infected system and changing some of the characters. Write down the name of this file. 4. Type the following, and then press Enter after each one: attrib <file name from step 3> -h del <file name from step 3> 5. Type the following two commands, pressing Enter after each one: del wininit.ini del wininit.bak 6. Restart the computer. 7. Start Norton AntiVirus, and run LiveUpdate. 8. Run a full system scan. Attempt to repair any files that are infected with W32.Weird. If they cannot be repaired, you must delete them and restore them from a clean backup copy, or reinstall the deleted file.

oh I forgot to add, the Error Message report references the d3dim700.dll file. Part of Windows/System32 Mike
