Sheesh..you're worse than me ...addicting hobby, ain't it? and expensive at times. Mike

I would say YES.

Here's what I found "The HPT370 supports Hard Drives over 40GB in size, up to 137GB" Doesn't say anything about the maximum size of the Array. I'm assuming that statement means it can support discs with a max size of 137gb each..I guess. Mike

Here's what Microsoft says it is. "LUA_ENCR_DECR_LOAD_ERROR An unexpected return code was received from the OS/2 DosLoadModule function while attempting to load the user-provided encryption or decryption dynamic link module." YIKES!!! If it were me, I would reformat and do a fresh install of XP. One other guy over at http://www.tweakxp.com Forums is having the same error. You might want to run over there to their forum, do a Search for that number 0x0000008E and read the post over there. Mike

It has always been recommended to leave the PageFile managed by windows no matter how much RAM you have. Mike

Read this over at TweakXP's forum. Posted by OPEN_SOURCE. Try going into Services under Administrative Options in Control Panel. Disable anything relative to Nvidia Services. Someone is stating on TweakXP that this service for some reason is causing the NVidia driver to be loaded twice. Worth a try for some of you out there. I have had it disabled on my machine and haven't had any BSOD's since, but then again I've been switching drivers so much, who knows. Wortha shot though. I now have been running BSOD free since I upgraded to the 27.20 Detonators and disabled the Nvidia Service. But that is just me. I also have a friend in Florida with the same exact problems as most and he did the same thing as I did, except he is running the 23.12's and he too has disabled Nvidia Service. He hasn't had a BSOD since. Mike

I don't knwo about Softare RAID, But anytime I ahev srtup a RAID array, you ALWAYS lose the Data on the Drives you are creating an Array for. Mike

Sorry I did nto know where else to post this. Ok we have new Copies of XP pro here at work. I am trying to load it on my machine. Don't laugh. SOYO K7VTA-Pro 1.4 Athlon 256 mb PC133 Enermax 350watt PSU IBM 30gig DTLA Gainward GF2 MX400 64mb 556x Cdrom 16x10x40 Liteon CDRW 1.44mb Floppy Realtek 8139 NIC Intel HAM Dtata FAX Voice Modem 56K. OK I tried to load WIN XP from the CDROM. It gets to the beginning, where it loads a bunch of files. It then says at the bottom afetr loading files, "STARTING WINDOWS". and it just sits there forever, never goes any furhter. I tried removing ALL hardware except for the Video, CDROM and HDD and still the same thing. I have loaded the Failsafe Defaults in the BIOS, but it still WILL not go past the Screen where it says STARTING WINODWS at the bottom of the beginning BLUE screen before installation. Mike

0x000000D1...What it means? This may just make it worse, but this is what your error code means according to MSDN. Mike

Hi all. A friend has 3 pc's in his home, all with XP pro. All with 10/100 NICs and on a 10/100 Linksys Switch. Here's the problem. We establish a Network by running the Network wizard on all 3 and setting one as the Host for Internet. All see each other when you View Network Computers, However when we share Fodlers or Drives, they do not Show up under Network Places on any PC. The only thing that shows up is Shared Folder. Every once in a while though, one will pop up. Like right now, My Documents on one of the PC's is showing on all the others under Network Places. All the Sharing is shows to be correct as far as settings go. All PC's runing same protocols etc. I pretty much know what I am doing when it comes to basic networking, however on my PC at work with XP pro, whenever we share something there, BAM it automatically shows up in the Network PLaces all the time. One thing though, On every PC I have messed with that has XP pro on it, ONce you UNSHARE the Folder or Drive, if it was appearing in the Network Places, it remains there, even after it is un-shared. Kinda Goofy. I beleive all the Services are correct under Admin. Tools. Anyone have an idea? Sorry I forgot to add. Even though the Shared Folder does not show up under Network places, it does show up when you go to "View Workgroup Computers" under that specific Computer. Mike

Quote: Right, it's not really the best time to buy DVD writers at the moment. As with nearly ever single standard we are currently at the phase where there are competing standards, one of which will win and be used for ever more, the others will loose and if you choose that side then you'll end up with an un-supported device History is full of standards that were great but have since been thrown away, VL-BUS, X2 Modems That being said, if you need the ability to write DVD then you have to take the plunge. Please note, although any drive you may currently purchase *Might* be able to read back all the different formats, it certainly can't write in them all. Currently there are 3 standards in use: DVD-RAM - This has a few followers including Toshiba I'm not quite sure why this is in the race for the standard, it's been around for a while and seems the most unlikely eventual winner. DVD-R/DVD-RW - Again has a lot of followers, Pioneer being one of the biggest supporters. This was the first of the "Big two" standards to emerge, early adopters will have had drives conforming to this standard, giving it a boost. DVD+R/DVD+RW - Plenty of manufacturers pushing this standard, Phillips and I believe HP are two of the biggest. Slightly newer technology than DVD-R/DVD-RW, however doesn't offer anything over it. The "Big two" standards are both geared up ready to be able to burn dual-layers. As to which of these standards will eventually win is anybody's guess. DVD-R/DVD-RW does have the advantage because it hit market first, however as there are so few adopters at the moment either standard could win out. Blade is right on. I don't know SQUAT about DVD/RW etc. yet, but they are still pretty new to the market. Prices IMO, are still very high considering that it is really no huge breakthrough in technology. If it were me, unless I just had the cash laying around and was itching to spend it, I would hold of for a few months. See what happens, Something always better, faster and cheaper is sure to come out. But, according to what these guys have posted, if you have your mind set on buying one, go with the Pioneer. It looks to have the most features and flexibilty. Mike

That is wierd...but, I have seen it before. The only way I fixed it was to reformat and start over. Sounds like you are fresh on your install, so reformatting may be a plausible option. Just don't leave that CD in the drive incorrectly again... Or on the other hand. If it is working and all aplications are reading what drive they need to read from and you are booting fine, you may be just as welll to leave it alone. Mike

Quote: I've got a great PS tho. Prol not the power hmmm..I have the 350 Enermax as well and I was STILL getting Inifnite Loops with it. My loops subsided when I got the 431 w Enewrmax. Mike

Oh and I re-read your Post Brian..I know the RAID controller may be ATA133 and XP doesn't have Native drivers for it, but Woopie. He should STILL be able to do what I posted in the beginning. HOOK his Drive to the REGULAR(STANDARD) IDE Controller. Then once booted up, with RAID enabled, it should recognize the Controller and ask for Drivers. He can THEN load therm. Shutdown and hook to the RAID controller and BAM off and running. I did the EXACT same thing with my Board. and my RAID controller has no XP Native drivers either. Mike
-
Brian are you saying that XP WILL not recognize the "Standard" IDE controller on that board? I have seen exactly what he is talking about with a RAID controller Card or Onboard, but NOT the standard IDE. It should AT the least I would think, use the Native IDE Controller Drivers. I'm thinking that maybe he is hooking the drive to the RAID controller and NOT the Standard IDE. I can duplicate that on my board exactly. Of course, I could be wrong...lol it wouldn't be the first time..Just trying to help. Mike
-
Hey that Board you are using? It is an Onboard RAID controller you are trying to Boot from? If so then you may need to hook your Drive to the Standard Controller FIRST, boot upo and load the RAID drivers and then shuitdown and hook your Drive to the RAID controllers. If it is not RAID controllers, then XP should recognize the Standard IDE controller. That is wierd. If I find out anything, I'll let you know. Mike

Quote: LOl. GOt in the middle of a religous dicussion. I had my first loop error the other day after installing the geforce 4 with Det 27.42. I disabled the service running form nvidia and hasn't happened since. Yes that helped me in the beginning too. However it may rear it's ugly face again..so be prepared. I notice you are running a lot of hardware by your sig. and you may need to investigate the possibilty of a power issue as posted in the VIAARENA forum if the problem comes back to haunt you. Hopefully though, disabling that service did it for you..I'll keep my fingers crossed too. Mike

Quote: VIA based server. LOL. What a stupid idea. They can't even use ATA/133 cards properly never mind a RAID array. Also u have instability. I would never use VIA in a server. Hey this is a forum for Help not bashing..there are other topic areas to do your VIA debates and bashing in. Please try to help or keep your comments to yourself. thank you. Mike

Oh and as far as the HCL for WIN XP, yes I would TRY to stay within in specs on that one...it at least eliminates that factor if having to troubleshoot to an extent. Win 2000, it is a little more forgiving. as a matter of fact. The Highpoint Drivers for my controller on my board are NOT HCL. And they Show it. Because of THAT driver, System restore will not work. If I remove that driver, SR works. It has to do with ONE file in that driver package. If I delete that one fiel SR works again...no one has fixe dit as far as I know... Mike

Quote: i think i would not have anything to do with amd or via HCL or not get yourself a intel chipset and processor and leave via for all the penny pinchers. If you are using this computer to study you don't want to have random bluescreens and lockups that via is so famous for. VIA sucks they have allways sucked and they will probably continue to suck far into the future that is unless everyone realizes they suck and they go out of business or something. somone has a problem with VIA...sheesh. Anyway, slimjen, What you are looking at now is great or half way good. Get what you feel comfortable getting. INcluding a Case, PSU , Good MOBO and ram and HDD and CPU, your gonna easily hit your budget mayeb a tad over. Just be wise to if the sales guy at your local PC shop or whatever is being wise. Search on the net for some reviews...whatever you get should work fine for you...heck if you need any help...there's plenty of it in INternet Forums like this. Mike

Quote: LOL VIA when is this crap gonna end No offense, to you Four and Twenty, however, your post is neither significant or helpful to the current topic at hand. I for one appreciate this Forum and others like it and those who run it. BUT, I don't think it is appropriate for comments like the one you made. It is neither helpful nor informative. I'm sorry if you disagree or if anyone else does. I see you have a number of posts on this Forum and I am sure that a lot of them are helpful. Mike Please keep up to what is going on over at the post at VIA ARENA. Voltage Issue and Infinite Loop?..or is it something else?
-
UPDATE. Possible Solution in the Horizon for the Infinite Loop. Please read this post at VIAARENA Forum. http://forums.viaarena.com/messageview.cfm?catid=25&threadid=9263 It is not necessarily a WIN XP Problem. It is not necessarily a VIA issue. It is not necessarily an Nvidia issue. It is not necessarily a MOBO manufacturer issue. It could be a little of all involved but what it boils down to is the Current on the 3.3volt line. PLease read the post. http://forums.viaarena.com/messageview.cfm?catid=25&threadid=9263 Mike

WOOO...556x Cdrom..I didn't notice I typed that until now...BOY that is fast..no wonder I was having problems.. it was probably flying right past the install fiels on the CD..lmao...man what a typo. ;( Mike

Quote: Cool, i can't wait to get a GeForce 4, it is one of the biggest leaps in Graphics architecture in a while. Now if they could only sell em cheaper. Not THAT BIG of a leap. Look here: ATI RADEON 8500 unlike NVIDIA GeForce3 supports dual-monitor configurations. Now this support is implemented in GeForce4 as well. ATI RADEON 8500 can perform hardware MPEG2 decompression. Now GeForce4 also acquires hardware MPEG2 decompression. ATI RADEON 8500 has a more efficient Vertex Shaders unit than NVIDIA GeForce3. GeForce4 got 2 units of the kind. ATI RADEON 8500 supports more "advanced" Pixel Shaders than NVIDIA GeForce3: version 1.4 against version 1.1. By GeForce4 NVIDIA squeezed all juices out of the old architecture to announce Pixel Shaders version 1.3 support. ATI RADEON 8500 boasts HyperZ II, which is more efficient than Lightspeed Memory Architecture of GeForce3. GeForce4 now boasts Lightspeed Memory Architecture II. At last, ATI RADEON 8500 works at higher core and memory frequencies than GeForce3 Ti500. GeForce4 Ti4600 is now working at even higher frequencies. All in all, we have every right to state that NVIDIA GeForce4 has almost no bottlenecks, and its performance is so high that the other today's graphics chips will not be able to get even close to it. Well, some of you may be upset that no 3D revolution burst out, however, revolutions are not always a good thing. Firstly, fully-fledged support of DirectX8 in games hasn't become mass and a new revolution could possibly harm the coming of DirectX8 and shaders into "public". Secondly, the launching of new graphics cards will cause the prices of the already available solutions to drop, which will make the graphics cards with hardware support of DirectX8 more affordable for the users. That is why those people who decide not to spend too much money on NVIDIA GeForce4 based graphics cards will be pretty happy with a GeForce3 Ti500/Ti200 or ATI RADEON 8500, as they will lose only a bit of performance and nothing else. And those who buy an NVIDIA GeForce4 can be absolutely sure that their graphics card is beyond any competition. The launching of the chips supporting DirectX9 is now moved to a later day, and then the new wars From: XBITLABS.com Mike
