;( Beware of the new game UT 2003. I just purchased the game this afternoon and when I opened it up I was quite suprised. First of all after paying the rather big price for it, I found out they did not even include a jewel case for the 3 CDs. Then after opening it I decided to install it. One of the first things it asks for is the CD key. In the same box that you enter the CD key it says to look at the jewel case for it. What jewel case? I just got 3 paper CD sleeves. I then went to Planetunreal for assistance. It said: "The CD-Key you are asked for when installing the game is available on the back cover of the manual you received in your game box, in the white portion on the lower part of the cover. It is four sets of five alphanumeric characters. When entering it, you may enter the letters in lower or uppercase, but be sure to include the hyphens between each set of five characters." OK. I looked at the manual and I could not find a CD key anywhere. So I read on and it then says: "If you do not have a CD-Key on the back of your manual, we will be happy to exchange your manual for one that does. The entire manual needs to be sent back to us for replacement; we regret that we cannot accept faxed or scanned copies. Please contact Consumer Services at the phone number at the top of this document, select Unreal Tournament 2003 from the menu, and follow the appropriate prompts to be put in contact with a member of our support team who can issue you an RMA number with which to exchange your manual." What kind of product are they selling? What iritates me is that they cannot even provide a $2 jewel case for their CDs and then they want you to send in the complete manual to get a CD key that they should have provided. All at your cost. I dont know how long it would take to get a replacement manual and CD key because I returned it for a new one but I would think that it could take several weeks. I think that it stupid to have to deal with a company with bad tech support and quality control like this. ;(

I could not get it to work on my PC. Kept getting errors that it could not find a INF file. Pissed me off so I starting using a different scanner that I had instead. ;(

Windows 200 Professional has a limit of a total of 10 connections. It does not matter if it is servers or workstations or a combination of both. Your workstation (server) should not count as a connection on the PC.

I would check the jumpers on the drives. One should be the master and the other should be on secondary. You could also put both to cable select. Lastly you could check the manufacturers website for support.

I would just rename the administrator to something that will not be easily guessed and then create a Administrator account with very little rights or permessions as possible. do you by haps have a shreader installed on the computer? The newer versions of Mcafee have a shreading program built in to them.

Check for the Blaster worm. I had to patch about 1500 PCs at work and it causes all kinds of havok on systems. Also make sure you have the most recent dat files. Just because you installed all the patches does not mean that you cannot catch it. The patch only closes the exploit not protect you from the worm.

I agree with Sapiens74. I would go with the Intel processor and hyper-threading. Hyper-threading will help lessen the amount of time to compile and if he will burn it to a DVD, the rendering time. If I remember correctly on benchmark test the AMD processor usually does better for graphics but do not have anything like Intels hyperthreading to help process information. SCSI would help a great deal also. Adobe products are beasts themselves and if you have the best processor out there, will make any task that much easier. If it work that is purchasing it why not buy the best rig that you can. Time is money. AMD had chipsets that will handle dual processors but are not exactly the greatest on performance. Intel chipsets are usually supported by any M$ product with out adding extra drivers and are usually very stable but the boards are usually a littel more expensive.

Sounds funny that a sp would conflict with a M$ driver.

What brand of scanner?

Do you have the cable that goes from the cd-rom plugged into the sound card? Do you have it the correct plug on the sound card?

I have been happy with my Toshiba 16x DVD player. I have heard that Pioneer makes good DVD players also.

After doing a system restore the network worked again but only if used the standard nic any attempt to use the wireless nic blew it up.

Yes it can be done. If you look on the internet you can find some links to files that will add the USB support to NT. I have one that we had used at work but now if a machine needs USB and and has high enough specs we just upgrade it to W2k. Be aware that you will probably only be able to find support for USB 1 only.

This is in fact a less than optimum method of applying security settings. You must set the default to an NTFS partition.) This command will edit (/e) the ACLs, rather than replace them, and recursively apply them (/t) to subdirectories. There is additional flexibility built into the CACLS command-its only limitation is the dearth of selections for PERM (permission levels) values.
