I thought this was really odd when I read it because I have a friend who has a GF2 MX400 as well & I don't recall him using any special software to output to TV, so I asked him & he says you just "enable it with 'twinview' in Display Properties, no special stuff, it comes with the drivers."

Normally I'm not 1 to do something just cos everyone else is doing it, but here's 1 from me.

Why? I've only had 1 thing go wrong [though it mysteriously sorted itself out, honestly!] the fan on my old Cooler Master DP5-6H51. It was starting to make a rather unpleasant noise, so I thought the bearings were starting to go, so I phoned them & they sent me a replacement. I asked if I had to send the old 1 back & they said "No, just chuck it".

I had something sort-of similar happen when I bought my KT7A-RAID from them a while back. I placed the order, but when I checked the order it said Obsolete Stock. From what they told me, as I understsand it this basically means "We only have as many as shown when you checked to see if we had any & won't be getting any more, so get 'em now or miss out!". Needless to say I got my order just fine.

Mine does almost the same thing, except it does it @ both sides - almost as if someone had briefly fiddled with the width setting on the monitor. I do have stuff to either side of it - cable modem & [shielded] speaker on 1 side, & TV & cable TV box on the other, but they are all on pretty much all the time & the wibbling of the screen doesn't appeaar to coincide with any other event. I think in my case it may well be due to the fact that it's 11+ years old, which is good considering it still looks pretty good [even if it does only go upto 60Hz]. I think when it came out it must have been pretty much top of the line - 20", & choice of D-sub or 5-connection-BNC [R, G, B, + H & V sync] & you can switch between them so you can have 2 PCs hooked up to it. Not bad considering it was given to me as payment for a favour!

Or as my step-dad [who works in the film industry] says "NTSC = Never Twice the Same Colour"

I wondered why I hadn't seen it in a while, now I know. That doesn't explain why I haven't seen the musical mosquito 1 in a while though.

get it running with the onboard graphics, then in Device Manager uninstall the onboard graphics [not just disable it], then shutdown the computer & turn off the power. Put the new graphics card in [but keep monitor attached to onboard graphics]. Turn PC on, but don't let it go into windows, instead go into the BIOS setup. Disable the onboard video. If the card is AGP instead of PCI then look for an option that is called something like "init display first" & set it to AGP. Save these settings & exit the BIOS setup, & then plug the monitor into the graphics card. Hopefully that should sort it.

How the hell are you supposed to tell what firmware version a CD-RW currently has? If it makes a difference, mine is a Lite-On LTR-12101B [12x10x32x]
-
I gues not. :-) I have noticed it being a little odd, though I think the last reinstall cured that, if not then it it's probably just a case of the lens needing cleaning.

ah, yes, but I don't have SSS installed @ the mo, whereas Nero is.
-
As have I - I just don't have the same amount of spare cash to throw around as you obviously do. Plus, I phoned Videologic tech support today only to be told that the prob I have with my SV2 is a known issue with XP & the only solution is to get a new sound card, so have got to save up for 1, as the prob I have with it is driving me nuts.

The Packard Bell ones, yes? I just had a look on their site, £17.99 for just 10 RW CDs? Think I'll pass for now - will wait til prices come down a little.
-
Thanks for that - just checked it with Nero. Lite-On's site has the latest firmware & 2 previous ones, & the 1 I have is even older. Should I upgrade? The listed versions only give their description as "match more media".

Quote: They were 80mins yes, im sooooo happy. Funny how 10 speed 80min CDRWs made me happier than a gf4 So tell me where from!!!!!

Quote: Sadly as i see the death of gaming on the PC getting closer i wont be upgrading either. Wash your mouth out! Quote: But i did just buy some cool 10x CD-RWs, best purchace ive made in a while, wow 10x, ive only ever had 4x ones up till now Don't suppose they were 80min ones were they? I haven't been able to find 10x 80min ones anywhere - 10x 74min ones are no probs - I have some, just not the 80min ones. I keep checking in Maplin & Staples, but no joy yet

There's no Settings tab there.

I haven't tried either 2.0 or 2.5 as yet, but I'll bear that in mind, thanks.

I got a couple of power strips which were on special offer @ just over the normal price for a multi-way extension lead. They weren't damaged or anything, it's just a promotional thing the store does, put a few items @ a reduced price for while, then put the prices back upto normal after a couple of weeks. If you're lucky you can pick up some good bargains. I think the 1s I got were originally supposed to be about £15-£20 each, but they were reduced to £7.99 each. :-) As for the coax going into the back of me cable modem - the cable company says their network has some heavy duty protection built into it....which is all fine & well unless a storm causes a spike in the mains & fries your cable TV box, as it did with mine - was really lucky Maplin had those surge protection strips on offer @ the same time - don't wanna have to go without cable again! <shudder> [well, actually - I wasn't totally without it, 's just the picture was worse than with a set-top antenna until they brought the replacement box]

Version 2.5 is out now & works for 2000 sp3 & XP. go here to get it. Haven't tried it myself yet, but thought I'd let you guys know.

Quote: does your vid card support hard ware acceleration? perhaps it may not, on my ati all in wonder 128 rage card, it would have that turn on, and it slowed down play back to a choopy level. Yes it does, it's a Radeon 64MB DDR ViVo. I don't know what it would look like with a DVD as I am still without a DVD drive, the .mp2 files are just from me recording TV progs. It's not a question of artifacting, like trying to watch a high res MPEG2 file on a slower machine, it's more subtle than that. Not really sure I can explain. It's not a vast difference, but it is noticeable. It's kinda like the difference between really good reception on your TV & slightly below-par reception.

Their drivers aren't that bad, @ least not anymore. I thought that they were the cause of some probs I was having & still are, but eventually realised that my soundcard was the culprit. -
Definitely doesn't sound right to me. It's a 10Mbit connection, right? that's about 1.25MB per second - there's no way an 18MB file should take 5mins - all things being equal it should [in theory] take about 15 seconds. 3GB should therefore take about 41mins. [unless I've made a serious error in my calculations ]

IIRC U just run the online version, but somewhere amongst the options there's an option to just download & install later - use that. I used to use it before XP.
