Im running XP in my P4 Machine and its not seeing any cds that are not in the drives after the machine has booted. In other words if I want to read a cd i need to reboot with that cd in a drive. I dont know what I did to make this happen. I have two drives a Toshiba DVDROM and a Plextor 1210A burner. I've had this problem on Win2k a long time ago and it involved me reinstalling. Yet I am still able to burn CDs with Nero or Fireburner. Any ideas?

I gave up. My ibm HD is on its last leg, so I decided to just reinstall XP into a spare drive while the ibm gets replaced. Anyway is there any program that can track changes to the registery so I can see what changes if this happens again?

I dont have InCD installed and never had, the only burning software I have installed is Nero and Fireburner. I've uninstalled them, but it does not fix it.

its set to prompt me for action. Also when I goto the properties for the DVD or CDRW drive and goto the Volumes tab and click the populate button it show me the size of the cd thats in the drive but thats all.

its not the autoplay feature that is the problem. I put a cd into either the DVD or CDRW drive and double click on it and XP asks me to put a disk into the drive. I can sit there and hit refresh til my hands are sore and it will still ask for a disk.

Plextor drives seen to be common to the problems we are having. But I still have the issue when the plextor is not even pluged in, and btw I am using the current firmware for my plextor.

Yes both drives are on the same cable.I've tried it with only one device plugged in, it does not matter. I can log in and log out, restart all day long it does not help. I've uninstalled the devices from device manager, and reinstalled them. No matter what I do it wont read the disks without rebooting.
