I've several computers at my home site. 3 of them are using a windows 2000 advanced server router to access the internet and 1 is connected directly to the providers router. The strange thing is that only from the main computer (connected directly to the providers router) can't access a single website anymore. I will not post what website it is cause it's a private one but I would like to have some help to make my computer able to connect to it again. I can ping and trace the website from this computer but neither Internet Explorer nor Mozilla Firefox are able to connect to the site. I'm using Windows XP SP2 English and Mozilla Firefox 0.93. It's no provider lock, as I called the provider and they told me everything is ok also every other computer in the network is able to connect to the site. I also tried to change my providers supplied static IP with no success - still the same - can't access the site. This happens for only 1 website. Please help me - thanks in advance.

Back online thanks to Win2k. Everything works again... no more problems accessing sites on the Internet. Also serveral other problems disapeared with the setup of Win2k. So it is and it still will be the best in several months!

Thx for the answers but it seems that my WinXP is loosing more and more of its shape so I'm going to format my computer today or tomorrow and go for Win2k again. Nice short try with WinXP witch wasn't really that positive.

I had the same problem and it was resolved by calling my provider and they saw that they had an error with their settings for my line. Maybe you should call the service from you provider and tell them that they may have a problem because you just reinstalled everything and it still happens. The other possibility is that they are doing repairs or other service on their side so they are disconnecting you from time to time. But your provider should know this if you give them a call.

I'm on a cable connection without any proxies. I also tried to disable the XP Firewall withou any success Soon I start to believe that I need to re-install again

I was in a hurry in the morning so I forgot to mention following things: TCP/IP Settings Router Firewall Settings WinXP Firewall Settings Browser Security Settings are all ok. I did a "ipconfig /flusdns" without any success. I checked the "hosts" file from windows. Nothing in there. F-Secure cant find any viruses. Pestpatrol couldn't find any spyware or anything that could do that. So it seems to be either an unknown program or some settings somewhere hidden in Windows XP. I also searched the registry for the URL of the site but couldn't find anything either. The strange thing is that it already worked on this system and stopped working for one day. So it seems my knowledge isn't enough to fix this problem and I would like not to be forced to re-install my system again.

long delay between logon and explorer start in XP
Visceroid replied to prime2004's topic in Customization & Tweaking
I don't know especially whats your problem but maybe its network related? Like the network card waiting for an IP adress from a DHCP server but can't reach one? That may cause delays in startup but im not sure when they appear (IP adress waiting should appear before the logon). Does the windows "Event viewer" tell you anything else about this problem? Like any events marked with a yellow "!" or a red "x" at startup time? -
Isnt Freelancer allready released? I think I played it ages ago?

There is no need to copy the registry.. Half-Life just copies fine without copying the registry.. only thing you have to do on the computer you copied half life to is to enter the serial again when you start! hope this helps you..

I not able to connect to windowsupdate.com at all... Allways get some "cannot find server or dns error" message Annoying at all... I am using Windows 2000 Professional and SP3 via IE 6.0

played both and I say Personally Dungeon Siege is more fun to play... it depends on what you prefer... if you are an old fashiond rpg-player then you will like NWM more... but if you more like a Diablo player (quick action and much to slay) then you will like DS more.. jsut play both of them and decide yourself.. (I kept playing DS for about 4 weeks before I uninstalled it but I uninstalled NWM the same day I installed it

Is there a tool like TweakXP for Win2000?
Visceroid replied to Adagio's topic in Customization & Tweaking
This is the working URL from the above link... the good guy who postet it forgot a simply point at the end of the url: http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstation/downloads/PowerToys/Networking/NTTweakUI.asp It works.. I tried.. -
Well I downloaded SP3 via ISDN (around 7,5kb/sec ) Well if you don't pay per minute like I am then it's no problem to wait 5 hours for such a thing
-
I just installed on my fifth system and all 5 are still working.... btw: all are runing F-Secure 5.40 without any problems! Seems to be on of the MS Updates where you don't have to wait 30 days or more to install it on you main system
-
I installed this thing on 4 of my 7 systems and all work fine... the slower ones (P3-800/P3-866/P3-550) seem to work faster a little bit now? On my main system (P4-2Ghz) there is no difference you can tell.. So: go leech and install
-
Just installed fine on 2 of my machines and its running smooth on the 2 most used systems... 5 to go... will report if any error occours during/after install!

P4 2 GHz will step down (tried with my P4 2GHz 850!) It steped down when I block my CPU Cooler Fan with another power cable.. was able to shut down windows normaly (about 75% slower than normal but it worked) opened the case.. saw the heatsink allmost glowing (it was so hot that I burned my fingers when I touched it) but the P4 is still working.. (greets to all AMD Users And now for your problem: Your graphics card is most likley active cooled!? If you have a card just in the slot next to the AGP Slot it is possible that the active cooler is sucking in hot air allready and isnt properly cooling your card (this happend me once again with my GF3 Ti500) so give it a try if you have enough space on your Mobo!

the first game where you have to "underclock" your CPU to play it smooth (otherwise its way to smooth

What do you consider the best computer game ever made?
Visceroid replied to pr-man's topic in Slack Space
The game I played for the longest period of time (and which I still keep playing) is Counter-Strike.. it may not be the best game ever but it kept me playing it rather long compared to all the other games -
You could look (in the case of Office is working) that you don't have any Office Installer Executables in your Registry's "RUN" Section!
