well, this is a bit strange, until I had win2k everything was fine... but then I decided to switch to XP --which is GREAT except for this 1 thing: I use Download Accelerator Plus 5, Reget, Flashget - and not one of them is able to finish downloads WHEN IT COMES TO BIG FILES (> 500 mb). With DAP it's easy to see some of the threads NOT getting bigger in size (they just stop at certain size, despite the status still being "receiving"). I download @ 7 threads (super accelerated) --they just kinda PAUSE/drop one by one, till there's one and then none, and then the whole x-fer "kinda pauses" (status still "receiving file") and there's no way to resume it (oh, believe me, I've tried). The other side's ftp server shows me trying to connect and then momentarily getting disconnected. Reget, on the other hand, after getting like 99% of a file, starts closing threads, x-fer drops, it can't reconnect or if it can, it shows "getting file info" status. Usually it's "Unknown error while downloading". Yesterday I gave in and installed win2k on another partition. I gave it a try with DAP. It downloaded a file without a prob. So did Reget. So you see, this is my XP Pro's fault. Don't know where it lies. If anyone has any ideas, it'd be great to share it with me. Mind you, this only happens with really big files - and if I start an FTP server, it SOMETIMES refuses to let other people finish their downloads (>500 mb files, again). I would love to have this fixed as it's the only annoying thing I found with this otherwise awesome system. Oh yeah, I have DSL if that matters. Computer: P3 1 gig, ASUS CUSL2-C mobo, D-Link DE-528 NIC. QoS turned off.

Typical scenario: when I try to play them, windows media player contacts the site activex.microsoft.com trying to download appropriate audio codec (couple of times), gives error message and then plays the file with no sound. I looked up the downloaded file in temporary internet files -- it's called msaudio[1].cab. Inside are: MSADDS32.AX and MSAUDIO.INF. Tried to install it manually, didn't work. I can see the codec in WinNT/System32/ but the system doesn't. I bet all it needs is some entry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /SOFTWARE/ /Microsoft/ /Windows NT/ /CurrentVersion/ /Drivers32 Anyway, I installed new WMP codecs, AC3 filters and still no go.
