Hey guys im looking to update my poor old 8gb 5400rpm ATA 66 drive to something around the 60 to 80gb 7200rpm ATA 100 range....which company should i go for etc western digital, seagate, maxtor....was looking at the WD carvier 8mb cache...are they any good compared to standard 2mb cache drives??
-
Hey guys, i just got myself a WD 80gb 8mb cache and it kicks booty!!! should keep me out of trouble for awhile hehe.
-
I've only had 3 HD's, one was a 2gb quantom fireball dont think it even rated on the speed scale lol, that lasted a couple years, then i got myself a new 4gb seagate that was great never had a prob with it altho it was slow..ATA33 5400 rpm, a friend of mine gave me his new but old 8gb ATA66 5400rpm seagate drive and im still using it after 8 months of continuous useage. So as things r going i say seagate r doing a pretty good job, IBM sound like a heap of shit if they burn out after 3 months...why bother....and maxtors seem a little pricey for what u get so as the competitors stand i think the WD carvier 8mb cache drivers sound like the most reliable and cheapest drives u can get. So my next HD will definitly be a WD!

Hey anyone got this game and had problems with it using up all ur pagefile space.....mine is set at 350mb min and 800mb max and it slowly goes upto 800mb and then says my virtual mem is too low and windows is making my pagefile larger then the game freezes up and crashes to desktop screen. Is this a bug in the game or is my winxp stuffin up on me? had noticed when i change settings and reboot they dont seem to stay applied and revert back to default....so anyone know a fix for this?????...im using XP with SP1 and TNT2 m64 32mb PCI <--- (stop laughing now)

u might need to check for a new mainboard bios update for 160gb HD's...not sure if u need to or not i know i had to update mine to support 160gb on my msi k7t turbo 2 board and thats only 6 months old....or try repartitioning the HD. -
Quote: ^^^ ahahha u serios, lol as for rip's don't bother man, they hard ever work! is not worth it. Well i guess ur right bout rips being useless...the ripped version i had is screwed and the bin/cue version i was downloading works like a charm..no probs with it

I don't really care which new vid card i buy next, after buying my first PC with a diamond stealth 2400 2D card then a S3 GX + 3DFX monster 3D card, to a prolink TNT2 M64 PCI card, any card i buy next will be an improvement by a few hundred fps in any game....i thought when i bought my tnt2 card it was the best thing cuz i could finally play D3D games under win2kxp lol...stupid driver support for 3dfx ended back before win2k was released so i was stuffed....just out of curiousity which card would any of u buy out of a gf4 4200 or a radeon 9000 pro 128mb? knowing the gf4 card is a bit faster but with less features like full directx 8.1 and older pixel shader engine?
-
yea i know gonna buy it when i get some $$ but yea. i downloaded the ripped class version thats the one ive been having probs with, so im in the middle of getting the FLT bin/cue version so hope that works a lil better.

hehe yeah..well it may have been put on my system by someone ...but its a kick ass game!!!

i like nvidia they r a good company who will be around for a long time due to excellent products blah blah blah.,..one thing that bugs me bout them is they release a new set of drivers say 30.82 and were ment to see an proformance boost of 25% at least....well im still waiting for that to happen...been waiting since around the time i bought my nvidia card back when driver versions were around 21.83....if anything i think nvidia drivers r going backwards in proformance...DET 30.00 was ment to be the best thing that nvidia ever put out...what a load of crap. i know i only have a shitty tnt2 m64 pci card..and the most i get on 3dmark 2001 is around 700 on a good day...thats with the new drivers 30.82 with the older drivers like 21.83 i got at least 900....just goes to show new drivers arent always a good thing.

lol...well yea my copy seemed to have found its way on to my harddrive somehow too 8) how did that get there i wonder lol...well to the point...my page file is on a separate harddrive which is only a 1.2gb drive and i use that for pagefile space and my primary HD is a 8gb partitioned into two 4gb drives.
-
Well i got 256mb ram, and even when i did make my pagefile larger to over 1 gb it slowly used up all of it and crashes...i found it only seems to do that on some stages....weird

im thinking bout getting a ati 9000 pro 128mb card...just curious as to whether it supports agp 8x or not...i had seen on some sites like http://www.tomshardware.com that it does support 2x 4x and is compatible with 8x....does that mean it runs at 8x on a 8x mainboard?? one thing that is making me lean towards the 9000 pro is that it has pixel shader 1.1 and vertex shader 1.4 and full support for directx 8.1 where as the nvidia gf4 4200 only has pixel shader 1.3 and directx 8.0 support and as i have seen in prices..the 9000 pro is $100 cheaper then a gf 4 4200....

Now What's The Better Choice, W2K SP3 or WXP SP1?
tHêGhð§tÔfT¡mé replied to CyberGenX's topic in Slack Space
well look at it this way...u dont go play $450 aussie dollars for a copy of xp pro in da shop and then say oh hell with it i'll use my old version of win2k cuz i think ive seen 1 less BSOD, it all really depends on what type of hardware ur running and what u wanna use the OS for whether its for games or office shit. If ya prefer win2k go for it and if ya not sure then stick with win9x lol and if ya still can't hack the technology of win9x go DOS hehe -

I say XPSP 1 all the way!, xp has alot more features and newer technology then win2k, even with all win2k's service packs installed it doesnt support alot of programs and games that xp does, so if you want something to run properly, then go xp. M$ doesnt put as much time into win2k anymore since xp has been out... win2k was just a waste of money for them, they spend more time thinking shit up to add to xp all the time and its gonna be that way till the next windows is released which won't be for at least another 3 years. -
Hey i found this at Warp2search.net As you might know Nvidia is relying on its Nforce 2 chipset a lot in this quarter and it assumes it they will gain some profit even in this area competing with Via's just announced KT400 chipsets. Jen Hsun was proud to say that Nvidia has the highest performance and feature DDR 400 chipset with the first industry support for 333 FSBs. So yes, it's true, Athlon will eventually evolve to 333 MHZ FSB and will be able to stay in track for P4 533 MHz fight. To remind, you even the ancient SIS 735 chipset had support for FSB 333. We are not sure when AMD will introduce these chips but we reckon rather sooner than later. Nforce 2 will be very popular if the prices are targeted in the right area. µ

I heard somewhere that there is or is going to be PC-166 ram, so as for your ASUS board having 166mhz bus speed on the new bios update seems like its going to be reality sooner then we think....personally i think AMD should consider going the full monty and catching upto Intels 533mhz bus speed.....not that AMD really needs to catch up AMD LIVES FOREVER!!!!

DDR memory will always kick sdrams ass in any format weather its system ram or video ram so i recommend u get the DDR card
-
I currently got a prolink TNT 2 M64 32mb card...im looking at upgrading to something faster, i know a GF 4 mx 440 is only a Gf 2 on steriods with some new shit attached...but how much faster would it be over my dying TNT2???

Windows XP unable to work with a FAT32 hard drive
tHêGhð§tÔfT¡mé replied to shassouneh's topic in Hardware
check windows xp compatibilty list see if ur HD is supported -
usually i find if a program crashes that u might not be aware of, the cpu goes flat out till u close that program down in the "processes" window under "windows task manager"
-
Heres my 2 cents...
-
Ah i see, ive seen a MSI GF4 MX 440 for $180 aussie dollars, so might go snatch that up before someone gets it Even if its basically a GF2 on steriods..its still newer technology
-
So you say that a GF4 MX is just a GF2 on steriods?...ive heard bout that...do you know what the major differences are between those two cards? cuz i was thinking bout getting a GF4 MX 440. Does a GF2 supports DirectX 8.1? and how much faster is a GF4 mx 440 then say a GF2 ultra?
