Maybe consider making it install to it's own folder on the root and save backup files there. It's easy to get to root regardless of drive letter: cd %windir% cd\ Oh yeah, and put @echo off as your first line in the batch file to lessen the clutter when it runs. -

Have you tried Setup Factory ? It will make nice .exe distros for you without adding much crap (may be about 500k larger than a zip file). -

I tested it on my WinXP machine. I compared it to Ashampoo Winoptimizer, here are the results: Time taken: Ashampoo: 5 minutes APK: 25 minutes Entries found: Ashapoo: 25 APK: 117 You can view the entries for each in the text files below: Ashampoo APK One tip for you: Don't have it save backups or any files in the Windows folder. These should go in it's own folder somewhere in Program Files. -
Just use the old drivers, they work great. Even better, just avoid WMP, there are loads of other, better players anyway.

Why do you believe THG has to have an allegiance? I remember when the Athlon was big news, it was such a welcome to have good competition against Intel, forceing prices down, and THG seemed as happy as the rest of us about that, not that they were AMD fans. That's what was best about AMD. Now they are just losing ground fast, and unfortunately it will lead to higher prices again. Personally, I stayed away from AMD because for the longest period only VIA was there to support them, and they just weren't reliable enough. They have both matured greatly now though, but it's too little too late I'm afraid. I think AMD will fade a bit for the next few years until they come up with something to really go after Intel with, if they do. I can understand why the article seems harsh to the AMD fans, but it is truthful. The fan mentality is that he feels cooler or smarter than the mainstream because he doesn't buy into the huge corp's product, and goes for the underdogs product. And in AMD's case, their product was actually better in many ways for a while, which excited fans at first, but then made them selfish to keep AMD for themselves, because if everybody bought AMD, the fans wouldn't feel better than everyone else anymore! This is just the general product fan psychology that we have seen here. You can see it with many products. I especially agree with where the article stated "You write a piece about AMD, and there's be a deluge of traffic and comment."

Never had a problem with SB Live in Win2K or XP. I must've gotten mine after they worked out any driver issues. -
Try booting using "Last known good" instead. This will load up the registry from your last successful boot, which from your post sounds like the last succes was before you installed the wrong drivers, so it should fix you up.

Hey Clutch, I didn't know you were a P2P-er! Anyway, at my old job they had a virus get through some machines. The ones with McAfee or PC-Cillin got infected, but the ones with Norton were fine. I'm not saying Norton is infallible or anything, that was just one experience where it was able to protect better. Also, I remember one UNinstall of Norton that went bad. It wiped EVERYTHING in the Program Files folder EXCEPT for the Norton AV folder! That was about 4 years ago and I've never seen it another time. I think one of the best ways to measure antivirus effectiveness is to find out which is better at stopping unknown viruses. I remember some articles late last year where Norton was slightly ahead of McAfee there, but that was a while ago, and it was only one study. Still, your personal preference will win out in deciding which to use, and if you implement it properly you shouldn't have any trouble. Does anyone have any experiences with antivirus software OTHER than Norton/McAfee? I remember iRiS AV, it was bundled with Packard Bells for a while. Needless to say, it sucked as hard as the computer it resided on.

Is network connectivity other than Internet working fine? Do all pc's get an IP with no problem? Are you using ICS or NAT? Which DNS server are the clients using, yours or the ISP's?
