    Scandisk or Norton DD help

I have a weird problem when trying to run Scandisk or Norton Disk Doctor with the "fix errors" option enabled. I get an error that says " the disk check cannot be performed because exclusive access to the disk cannot be obtained". The error with Norton is basically the same. OS is Win2000 with SP2. Here are the things that I have tried: 1. Uninstalled Diskeeper Workstation. 2. Uninstalled Norton Utilities 2002. 3. Tried running from in Safe-Mode. 4. Shut down all programs. 5. Shut down all Services that would shut down 6. Did a Repair Reinstall of Windows I am out of ideas. What am I missing? How can I fix this? I am stumped. Thank's in advance for any ideas.

    Scandisk or Norton DD help

Thanks Thunder. I talked to a friend today who owns a networking business. He explained why any NT based O/S will not allow any error fixing while it is running. He says that the repairs if needed have to be done B4 any devices are loaded into the kernel. If it is done after it can cause even more file corruption, etc. Anyway thank's again. I like to find out what I think may be a problem is just plain design. At least it is a design I can live with, hehe.

Which it does. Is this the way it has to be done in 2000? I even just tried putting in a spare drive I had, installing 2000 and trying it, same error. I guess I am just used to being able to run NDD like you can in Win9xx. When it runs at next boot, does it then fix any errors it finds?
