    Weird Baldu'rs Gate problem

I had BG working fine for me on win98; on win2k, though, a bizarre thing happens: i create my character and go to the opening landscape (the tutorial), and my guy just stands there twitching, literally. the other npc characters move around just fine on the screen, but not mine: if i click the mouse enough times, maybe he'll move forward, maybe not. mostly he just stands there making repetitive arm motions -- and that's pretty much the end of the game. i've tried adjusting the graphics options, adding the patch, etc, but no luck. as i say, it worked fine under win98. any insights? my system: Dell CS 400 (laptop), PII 400 Mhz 256 RAM Neomagic MagicMedia 256

Smart and Friendly CD Rocket 8020 in Windows 2000

Thanks! .... but no luck. It ejects properly (Step 2), but doesn't automatically close the drive, so i can't eject it a second time. I wonder now if we're talking about the same device. I've got the SAF CD Pocket RW, which is a slim blue drive that attaches (to my laptop) by PCMCIA card. It is (or was) a beautiful little accoutrement, but nothing i do seems able to update it to w2k....

Did you ever manage to solve this problem? I developed the same prob recently when I upgraded to win2K; no amount of fiddling has yet enabled me to get my SAF cd-rw drive running again. I've you've learned anything more, I'd love to know about it .....
