I would not recommend disabling simple file sharing unless you are already familiar with NT-style ACL's. If you are not stop and read up on them first. I would advise you to leave simple file sharing enabled. What this does is makes it so that anytime someone tries to access your files over the network they authenticate automatically against the guest account. This is also part of the reason that you can't connect to the admin shares on the box(guest account not having admin access). All you should have to do is create a share and allow it to be connected to over the network. I would also highly not recommend sharing out your C drive.

This might help if someone does this again, however it will still require some reading on their part. First, you must realize that group policy is nothing more than a registry editor with a GUI and some added explanations. So anything that you can set there can be unset via the proper registry key. I'd be pretty hard pressed to find many situations where I'd recommend 2k Pro over XP for a laptop. Desktop you could go either way, but for a laptop, XP is more often than not the better bet. With the specs you have there, I'd say XP.

Anyone get this to work? I can get it working using the Windows scanning wizard, but GOD that sucks. BTW it is connected via the SCSI interface, not that it should make a difference. I have a multiboot setup and it works fine in 2000, 2000 Server, and XP. I can't get it to recognize it as a TWAIN source no matter what I do. This same scanner worked just fine under Windows XP. I have tried both the 5.53 and 5.71 versions of TWAIN available from Epson. Anyone have some ideas? suggestions?

It's faster and I don't think you'll have that error.

Videobruce, It seems that the file you posted looks correct, assuming that your OS is the primary master drive in your system. Can you check the permissions on that file and post them? Specifically, I am wondering if system has full control.

You can't bypass it. What happened to cause you to want to do this? Lost password? There are ways to reset it. Just want to autologin? There are ways to accomplish this as well.

Just out of curiousity and I've no idea why it would just add itself, but check in your forward lookup zones that there is not a "." zone. If there is, remove it.

Open regedit, go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon. In the right hand pane, locate the string value for Shell, is it set to explorer.exe?

You need not worry about this for two reasons. First, there is no product activation in Win2k so this will not cause any issues. Second, and perhaps more importantly. If you have valid licenses and can prove that, the product key installed really does not matter in the least.

jasongw, I've sent you the files. Also, an update. On Microsoft's website you can find a "hotfix" for file copying through Win2k's Terminal Services. If you open this up with something like Winrar, you can extract the files and then manually, or integrate it into the the install CD, install the server side portion. The client end, only the client that comes with 2k can do this, can be updated to use the file copy through the clipboard functionality as well. This works great over the internet too, but I wouldn't recommend using it for anything too large as you can't do too much else while waiting for it to copy over.

Open Regedit Go to Hkey_Users\.Default\Control Panel\Desktop and change the value of the Wallpaper key. You can just leave the entry blank and it won't load anything which sounds like what you're after.
