W2K-SP4: What is the verdict?
Linuxboy00 replied to hardwarecrazy's topic in Everything New Technology
I have a copy slipstreamed into my win2k pro cd, and have been using it for weeks now. I've not seen any problem at all with it. -
Hey everybody, just had a quick question. I am going to be running Windows XP sp1 as soon as I format my pc. I've got a GeForce 4 Ti 4200 and it has DVI and VGA outputs. My monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster 955DF. Now the monitor only does VGA ( it has a built in VGA cable ). Quesiton is.. Would it look better if I would get a DVI to VGA adapter and use the DVI ouput on my video card or just stick with the VGA. I mostly web surf, play some UT 2003 and web page authoring. But if it would improve the visual quality I will get a converter. Thanks for any suggestions, : ME :

I would look at the Abit NF7 series of boards. They are nForce2 boards that handle very well. They also support the Barton processors also. Take a look at them... www.abit-usa.com

I just finished installing the new updated nvidia drivers for Mandrake 9.1 and all I have to say is this... DAMN! For once in 14 times trying to get these dang things to work, this worked right off the bat. I was playing Quake III and UT all afternoon. It was so simple to do and all I did was remove the "nv" and replaced it with "nvidia" Works wonderfull. Thanks so much NVIDIA for gettings something right for me that is.. :-) Later,

Anyone have an experience with the A7N8X motherboard?
Linuxboy00 replied to Mr.Guvernment's topic in Hardware
It's a very good board for what it has to offer. Just make sure the latest BIOS will work with that Barton 3000 processor. I'm planing on getting the Abit NF7-S board wich also has the nForce2 chipset, just because I like it a bit more. But to each thier own. Later.... -
I would suggest going with the Athlon XP2400 and nForce2 chipset. I would shoot just a bit higher and go with the AIW 9700 Pro I've not heard anything bad " as of yet " with this card as far as video capture and the sort.

I need a program that will replace all instances of a file
Linuxboy00 replied to Christianb's topic in Software
You could download Kixtart from www.kixtart.org and use that. I've used it to do many things. It's easy to program in, and has lot's of functions. You will be pleased. YOu can write a program in it that will search for the files and replace it with the newer version based on what your looking for. Like file size, date, last modifed whatever... Take a look and see if it will do what your looking for. FYI, you will have to code your own program but the possibilities are endless with this little beast of a program. -
Best program for blocking ads and spam while browsing?
Linuxboy00 replied to pr-man's topic in Software
I second that.. Zero PopUp Killer is the shiznit. Small and lite. -
To just rip the dvd to your hard drive use Smart Ripper. Takes about 12 min to rip a whole dvd to hd. Then to convert it to vcd/svcd/divx/mpg whatever use what you want. There are many out there you can use, but I prefere DVDx from www.labdv.com

Try uninstalling those and downloading the 40.72 drivers and give them a try. ftp://download1.nvidia.com/Windows/40.72/40.72_win2kxp.exe

You said your running the latest Direct X.. You mean 8.1 right and not the beta of 9? Also, what version of the video drivers are you using? 40's or 30's? if your using detenator drivers from NVIDIA.

XP Compatible Video file conversion program?...
Linuxboy00 replied to HELLBRINGER's topic in Software
Oops forgot to add... For ripping the .VOB from DVD to Hard Drive I use Smart Ripper. Becuase I can Demacrovison and make it region free while doing it. To encode the ripped movie/vob files to VCD/SVCD/DIVX I use DVDx2.0 ( This is what I use mainly, but I have used many others) Now there are many others out there like VirtualDub, Flask, TMPGenc, ect.. Read up on some sites, and figure out what would work best for your setup. Each program has thier pros and cons, but it all depends on what you want your final video to be either a avi/divx avi or mpg. Have fun and good luck.. -
Shot in the dark.. You could try to install the Detenator drivers in SafeMode. Maybe something you have running normally is corrupting the installation of you vid drivers. If you have a virus scanning program running make sure to stop it while installing. Also, you might try and re-download the drivers, maybe they installer has become courrupt somehow? Let me know what happens.
