    Irfanview vs. slowview

yup, I guess this settles it,then, although there're no comments about Slowview Irfanview will still retain it's position as (also mine) best photoeditor+medialplayer, at least in a freeawre category. I probably should start a new thread about this, but let's see what happens: Do you know some good media converter/editor, preferably free? I've tried Stoick converter demo, but in one case it refused to convert anything bigger that 2Mb (duh) and in other it wouldn't convert .mov's to .wmv's or AVI's? I would need to convert some bigger .mov files into smaller .wmv's and then back to .mov's since the Honestech editor neither doesn't handle .mov.

    Irfanview vs. slowview

yup, I've been quite happy myself with IV,too, especially with it's great plug-in adaptabilities. It's my default mediaplayer as well and with all the codecs available, it's just sweeeet. But, still, I'd like to get some user opinions on Shortview. Is it as good as they claim it to be? I guess we are on constant prowl for new applications, even when we are totally happy with what we got But there you are, you spent a lot of time with comps, so I guess it's just natural that you want to get the most out of your systems and apps.

    Irfanview vs. slowview

Nope, sorry Sir, I'm running Win2kPro,so XP apps aren't a choice in my case. but I bear this in mind in case I have to (yes: have to) switch to XP
  4. Erm, sorry mate. Of course, I should've checked whether the address works or not. More bad news- I've tried to check everywhere for the ACT 1.5, including 'unofficial' sites , but no luck. the closest thing was 2.0. I have the 1.5 myself, but I don't have the installation program, which I also would need, since I'm buying a new comp shortly. Too bad. I'll keep on looking and let you know if I find it,OK?
  5. Well, try searching it with Google: QFixApp 1.5 downloads . I ended up directly to www.msdn.com/downloads/ ... I would have put you a hyperlink here but my Explorer has been acting weirdly lately and among other things gives you totally screwball hyperlinks, so this is the best I can do. As for 2.6, I would like to know myself, since I installed the earlier version 2.5 with SP2 in Win2kPro it didn't work. Can't remeber exactly what it was, but I had to resort to 1.5. Is the QFixApp 2.6 any better than 1.5? I wish someone could help us out on this one. Sorry I can't be any more helpful.

    stupid driver prob

OK, so I'm first to admit that not that good with comps but every now and then I manage to impress even myself 8) The thing is that I just 'installed' the latest Detonators and now the display is a bit odd- when set for resolution 800x600 or higher the left side of the screen is 'blank' or like the desktop was pulled to the right?!? What the hey? I've installed my drivers before many times but nothing like this has happened. So what possibly did I do wrong/forget and how should I fix it? Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi- you're my only hope

    stupid driver prob

:x Heh, the actual monitor buttons! Staring me right in the face and I fail to see them. Well, suppose this is what you get for always having one and the same head on your shoulders The refresh rate is still the same 60Hz and the resolution was the same all the time , so I guess it remains a bit of a mystery why the display 'moved'. Thank you for your comprehensive reply, though. It's good to know that there are always people willing to lend a hand. I'll print your reply in case I again fail too the little buttons before me Thanks again!

    TieFighter (XW.coll.ed) in W2k

I sure hope someone here can help me, because I've tried pretty much elsewhere for assistance. I'm trying to play TieFighter (X-wing collectord edition version) with my Win 2k Pro. I know that it is not supposed to run in this environment, so I installed QFixxapp (Microsoft Application Compitibility Toolkit 1.5 with latest AppComp Update). I choose Win98 emulation, and only deselect 'Emulate joystick' option from default settings. the game runs just beautifully, but fails to safe- anything! No pilot file, need to type the name everytime for registration when I play, no score or log besides the immediate debriefing after a mission of anykind.Does not make much sense. Is it simply impossible to run Tie In Win2k, or do I need to change the QFixxapp settings somehow? Also, does somebody know whether Rogue Squadron will run with these platform/software? At least the demo stall right after the intro's animation to 'Create a new player' part.

oops indeed. I forgot the 'saved' fix support thing from my post. So I'm getting old, so what? But your right about those QFixApp versions as well. I just once read from another post that there shold've been 2.0 version for both 2k and xp. no visual contact with SP3 here either

Now now. I'm not that thick. the key issue is probably installing the game to C-drive, not to Lucasarts. Have you played any of the custom missions for Tie or X-wing? Are they any good and is there any way of going around from using the XCDR tool (shareware thingy)?

    TieFighter (XW.coll.ed) in W2k

I finally got it, with help from Emperors Hammer forum. In Win 2k,if you have SP 2 get Application Compatibility Toolkit 2.0 and AppCompUpdate 2.0. If you don't have SP2 try to get AppCompToolkit 1.5. BTW, this works at least with TieF (x-wing coll.ed), but I have no knowledge about older versions. OK, apps installed, install TieFighter into C-drive in its own folder, NOT in Programms\Lucasarts! From programms start menu, open QFixApp, select '95 layer, from fixes uncheck 'Emulate Joystick', browse to Tie.exe (Tiefighter icon)and run it. I do not recommend choosing 3d accelerator from games Options window, since at least with me the game crashed instantly. After you've through with your session, get back to QFixApp and select 'Advanced' from lower right corner, and click on 'Create fix support' and confirm it.That's it. Some say that after you can run TieF just like any other game, but I still have to use QFixApp everytime. Well, as long as it runs, I'm fine with that.

still no luck. some say that TieF works just fine with software/settings but I can't make it work it properly. It probably is just some small, annoying thing I can't figure out. Oh well, what can you do.

What exactly did you do? So, what I have as settings is the game, autobackup pilot on, QFixApp 1.5 set for '98 layer and 'Emulate Joystick' unchecked and 'Remove ReadOnlyAttribute' checked. As far as I can tell, otherwise QFixApp is set on default. I have also App.Comp. Update 2.0 installed, without the Service Pack 2, though. I've tried with two different CDs now with the same results, so it cannot be disk related.
