Its a workaorund for the mobo to "allegedly" make it work when you use a Universal AGP card (one that has 2 nothches, eg Geforce, Radeon). When you use this, windows 2000 or XP will refuse to boot. The workaround is by reserving the memmory Address range C800-CBFF, if you dont do this then the mobo will geta a POST error, and will NOT complete post next time running. Go to intels DK440LX site and have a look, also make sure you have the latest BIOS!

Hi, Im currently using a Dk440LX mobo (P4 is arriving in a week or so ), and i have to say, i wrote the review that it works fine, and it does! I havent had any rpoblems, and now i have XP. The only problem with this board is that windows 2000 or Xp wont boot, when you use the Intel workaround after installing a Universal AGP card, this is bceuase something will try and write to the memmory location that you have reserved. As for your lockups, it is probably becuase of the AGP port, this was 1 of intels 1st AGP motherboards (along with the AL440LX and another one), so its only got AGP 1.0 spec and its not as good as can be. I was gonna install a universal AGP card (TNT2 Pro) but Xp or 2K wouldnt boot, and i did NOT want NT4 or 98. One thing that you can try to see is, in the BIOS check if your having any conflicts with the IRQ's, and also try to boot up in safe mode and see wether this continues!

Now What's The Better Choice, W2K SP3 or WXP SP1?
Immortal replied to CyberGenX's topic in Slack Space
I must say ive had a hellova lot more BSODS on XP than 2K, but thats prob becuase i added my ADSL modem when i got XP! Anyway ive had no other problems with winXP apart from the occasional BSOD relating to my ADSL modem, and power consuption (my old chipset doesnt like to give over 500ma to the USB, but this modem sometimes needs more). XP SP1 adds some good features, like any SP should do! -
Thnx a lot mate, that helped a lot. What kind of differnce can i expect from using DDR tho?
-
Hmm, i have XP pro, with Counterstrike and have NEVER seen this problem even with my good ol' 56K modem! Now im usin 512/256 ADSL, so it may be a problem either with ur ISP, or ur settings.

It really depends on what u want it for? here is a list of CD-RW's and what they are good for: Audio = Any Plextors over 16x and new Yamahas *NOT LITE-ON*, Plextors can also beat the Key2Audio protection by Sony, and so can the newer yamahas, sony drives over 40x wite speed can aswell. Games/with protections= Lite-Ons over 16x (Write speed) mainly, but if you have an Asus,Plextor... with it it will make a good combo. This is becuase Lite_ons arent good with Sub-Channel (some new Sony protections that use it eg. Securom) Data= really any CD-RW is good for this. Make sure it has a buffer of 2MB or over, Justlink or any other buffer underrun protection and burnproofing.

My system on Ebay. What do you think it is worth?
Immortal replied to rbarbier's topic in Buy, Sell or Trade
Ive seen those systems go for around £600-700 (Pound Sterling) on ebay, hpe u made it a high reserve.... -
98/ 98SE MUST always be on the primary, or it wont like it, ME doesnt need to tho.

With getright, it can help with downloads, with me, if i segment a download it will ALWAYS increase in speed by about 10Kb/s or more, my conenction is an ADSL 512/256, i even noticed the difference with my old modem, before i had ADSL, fro 2Kb/s to about 4Kb/s, thats 200% incerase with a 56k modem 8) . As for alecstaar's question, yes it does help quite a bit, especially with big files, so you can pause and unpause them...

or you can use a little proggy called outlock, or is that only for outlook 2k?

Quote: Four and Twenty: clone cd is the sh1t use it and you'll love it also Quote: Mr Guverment: and the only problem with CloneCD is if u have asmall scratch on your cd, it will read it as a copy protected sector, and still make an image and BAM! there is a useless image As for Mr guverment, thats becuase some games do have bad sectors??? Some copy protections even if they are NOT standard use bad sectors, one of my CD's was brand new, i tried to back it up, it had bad sectors BUT the backup plays perfectly. As for your problems, it could be your plextor needs a firmware update since it a known issue that some plextors with CCD have been too sensetive!
