I need a batch file program that will allow me (under windows 2000) to do something like deltree c:/long file name/long file name/directory with wildcards and long file name but, under windows 2000 deltree doesnt work, it has been replaced by rm which i beleive does not support wild cards. is there any way to be able to delete directories that have long file names using wild cards in a batch file??

sorry false alarm, i fixed the problem. I had to simply uninstall all the power management drivers (under system in device manager). This included anything about power or ACPI. i rebooted, reinstalled some drivers and stanby now works. this thread is closed

Major problem here, i formatted my comp, and now i can no longer suspend, the command is there, but when i try it, it says preparing to stand by but instantly locks up. Im running win2k sp3, amd k7m motherboard, athlon 500. I installed the via 4 in 1 drivers which have power management drivers for my motherboard. in device manager there are no problems, but i cant stanby even though i could before i formatted, whats wrong?!

I have a problem. Someone gave me a Compaq Armada 1590 DMT. I've been using it for a few days, but just realised that the fan isnt spinning (the one at the back). The laptop gets very hot under so im guessing this fan is supposed to be working. Now, is this a common hardware failure? Or is it just somekind of bios setting that will get this fan going. Im not familure with laptops so any help on getting this fan to spin would be appreciated!

I sarted this thread so that the release date of windows 2000's service pack 3 can be discussed, its fine and all that you discuss what it will include but comments on costumer service is getting out of hand. So, before we lose track, WHEN IS SP3 COMING OUT????

BladeRunner, first of all i find it very hard to believe that your entire computer has only legitimate software on it and that you arent breaking any software rules. Second of all, to have a computer with the functinality they are ment to have, it would cost thousands in software. Now, yes i would like to justify what you call thievery, MS especially are thieves which our society accepts. They buy out or just otherwise destroy the competition which is trying to offer reasonably priced software to the consumer. Because of MS, I am unable to be a ligitamate software owner because they produced overpriced bugged bloatware which doesnt deserve the money. If they woul allow fair competition and not spend money on copy protection instead of debugging, we would have low cost, compact, effecient software which is worth my dollar.

I'm extremely confused now?! Which OS provides the ability to replace explorer in system.ini, which os provides the ability to run with priority!? I'll probably be running win95, but maybe ill consider installing 98.

Clarification? When i rename shell line to winvu, do i need to reboot, will i be able to run any other programs?

I would like some tips on how to optimize my laptop for a single program (WinVu!) I will be running it 24/7, and only running that, nothing else on win95, so if you have any tips on how to optimize my comp for running a single program (besides closing all other useless processes) please post them here.

I use Norton Internet security to block adds, it works very very well, i'd say it blocks 95% of adds on only 5% of non-adds. And it can b turned on or off very easily so its ok. There are alot of other programs that do the same.

Well i'm sure there is a way to do it if you fork through the registry or use a program like X-Setup which allows the renaming of system folders. But, i highly dont recomend it. Unless its absolutely necessary, renaming WINNT is asking for trouble. I dont see how renaiming it is worth the future problems like system files installing into the wrong folders or unexplainable micrsoft "errors". And, i doubt you will be able to cut and paste everything out of WINNT while windows is running since most files are in use. All i say is, if aint broke, dont try to fix it.

Does anyone have any idea when service pack 3 for windows 2000 is going to come out, i've been waiting for it to format and im getting impatient.
