I was reading form the release notes on VPC 5.x that i can specify the Mhz of the emulated CPU thereby slowing it down. i am using VPC to play magic the gathering on a win98 guest, and its playing too fast, the little dude runs way to fast. if I could slow it down it would be perfect. (The game wont run on windows 2000 for me, even though the games section here says it should, go figure) im runing the latest VPC, 5.2. I scoured the VPC helpfile too and could not find it.

outlook allows you o specify whether to send in RTF, txt, or HTML. It does not however allow you to disable reading in html hen it is sent that way. Here is how to have it automagically convert the HTML email you receive into txt format before you read it. This is for Outlook not outlook express. http://www.ostrosoft.com/vb/disable_html_email.asp

You wont conect to shares sing http:// ever, thats web protocal. You an connect by regular computername like normal, as long as netbios is enabled for the vpn IP, or if you installed IPX with netbios, or if you installed netbeui, and any or all fo these are enabled on the vpn connection. As you see, the key here is netbios.

File sharing with numbers of users Permission.

I don't think you can set a max number of users, although the max is 10 either way. -

3DMark 2001SE build 330 seems too low. please comment

Why did I build a dual. Let me count the ways. 1) I've had a dual p3 800 for last 2 years and its been excellent for multitasking (runnung 10-20 apps simultaneously) 2)I Compress Divx and DVD video. Lots of it. These always use both. 3)a given app does not need to support smp to take advantage. Merely runing lots of non smp apps at once, they will all remail very responsive. In task manager, click view>select columns>Thread count. (add threads to viewable in task manager) you will see most apps are runing multiple threads anyways, and they all benefit it. Windows will juggle the threads onto both cpu's evenly. my machine is so responsive and fast its like goshdarned candy. -
I forget the exact egistry location, (I found it with Xsetu (www.xteq.com) I added a right click explorer context menu popup to run contug on files. This way you can "Right click>defrag" specific files. Really handy as I deal wit very large video files all the time and I like to defrag tehm specifically. Using this method too you can highlght a group of files and defrag them all. In Xsetup the locaiton is something like "appearance>explorer>shell" The comand i put there was c:\contig.exe "%1%"

Guys, what are non-internet routable IP addy octets again?
duhmez replied to sapiens74's topic in Networking
s I understand it 169.x.x.x is fine. 169.254.x.x is reserved for autoassigning. As for autoassigned addresses, it works for at least win98SE and above, not just win2k and above. (I used to have a network setup this way, long story) Indeed 192.168.x.x mask 192.168.255.255 is class b. class c? Who cares, its useless -
Times are tuff even for CNET apparently: Check it out!

Sourceforge would require open source. What i wonder is, they call it a one time fee. What abot updates to the software, the people will download it again? and will they get into a hissy fit when too much bandwidth is used for populr apps. \ Alot of questions. -
Boot to dos and run setup fropm there. Win9x floppy, then run smartdrv, then run \i386\winnt.exe You wll also need a fat(32) partition on the disk when you install, but you can convert afterwards.

I see your problem. The mistake was assiging permisisons to a global roup. the official Microsoft method is to assign permissions to local groups. As for ading users to global groups, that should not be a problem. Ensure you really do have the two way trust that you say you do. The do,main with the resources needs to be trusting, but if you go two way it should work..........

the "Any folder" is this at all like the "any" key?

bl;ue save is not a screen saver, it is a progeram that will capture BSODs when they occour. they have a utility to cause an actual BSOD too to test it......

Remove the users that you dont want access from the domain admins group in the IT support domain, this will stop them from accessing the other servers directly. As for the shares if you set NTFS permission on your shares to allow only the groups you want, including domain admins, then they will be blocke form these shares as well, which will cure both problems in one swoop. then audit and assign rights as needed.

the ping is strange. Ping shoud always work unless you have policies stopping ping from the Nt box.....

You can arrange with your ISP to have "anythingatall@domain.com" to go right to your mailserver, at which point your mailserver will sort it all out. as long as you own domain.com that is. What im not understanding is, if you own domain.com, and domain.com points to your static IP address via global DNS, then email would go straight to your mailserver anyways. unless you have some weird arrangement with your ISP..... Need more info probably.

You can add users from any domain into your global group. As long as you have a trust setup. On the dropdown tab click to choose the domain to add the user from. Then add this global group anto a local group that has the rights you need.

all you need to do is a basic disk copy and it should already be bootable. If its not, check out the sticky here "ultimate slipstream guide" info there may help you.

www.sysinternals.com a tool there called "bluesave" save save for you any BSOD you may have. they also have a program there to give you a BSOD deliberately, for testing out bluesave. Peruse their programs there, sysinternals utilities are fantastic, and many of them for free.

What is the proper way to install nvidia video drivers?
duhmez replied to RedStar's topic in Hardware
The proper way is to unnistall with add/remove programs. any other wy isn't "proper" even though other ways may indeed work for some, they may cause problems in other situations. at the very leasst, never just run setup and nstall overtop.
