Yes, I can ping anyone including the Win2k Box. Nevermind, we're all learning here, aren't we?

Which product to diagnose disk drive issues in W2KServer?
el_vago32 replied to hardwarecrazy's topic in Software
You could use Easy Recovery. It has a nice built-in utility to diagnose disk drives. -

I have tried hard coding the IP and DNS settings that the router has but, still same crap. I have not tried setting them to Cox's settings though...I will try that when I get off work this afternoon. I will also run ipconfig /all on the ME machine, and a working XP machine, and post them here if that might help. I would love to just put XP on this box...but its only a meager AMD 350 on a old MSI MS-5169 with 512mb ram and a 14GB ATA 33 HD. I actually did try loading it...but once the file copying starts...all hell breaks loose! Once again...thanks for the responses!!! Win2k is your friend...I don't recommend to anyone use this WinMe Crap...., avoid headaches man, get rid of that OS, and dont be worry about Win2k, it rulz and isn't hard to use.

why does it takes so long to log into the domain?..., this has been bothering me since a few moths ago but i cant take it anymore, and it only happens when the workstation is a Win2k/Winxp computer, if it's a win98 (huak!) it doesnt take any much...., is there something that i could do to accelerate the login process to the domain?, how?

First of all, sorry for my bad english. Need to install Windows Xp pro (I'd preffer a Reinstall, you'll decide) in this damn Laptop.., as u all know it does not have any removable media such as floppy or cd rom...,i heard there's a PCMCIA Cd-Rom available which I can use to boot it, but I dont have any at this moment..., the issue is that I'm using RIS (Remote Installation Services) to install windows, but i cannot repair windows in this way..., my questions is, since the laptop (using RIS) becomes a DHCP client of the RIS Server is there a way I can access he data in he laptop? Anyway, any other suggestions are very welcome, i'm in big deep trouble with this laptop

A/V that plays nice with multiple users? Looking for one
el_vago32 replied to ThC 129's topic in Everything New Technology
Quote: On some of the computers at a network I manage use NAV 2002. The problem with this is that it won't update virus defs, it won't run scans, it is pretty much useless unless im logged on as admin. Well I can only get there about once a week if that so I need an A/V program that will continue doing its job even when nobody is on. Here is what im looking for: 1. Not too big of a resource hog, these are not "top of the line" computers 2. HAS to play nice with multiple users even when nobody is logged on 3. All the standard A/V features (e-mail scanning, on access scanning, you know the basics) Any ideas? Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition is the sh!t. Believe it. -
I actually use Powerquest's Partition Magic and its "copy partition" function. Works great, but ain't free.

Quote: Easy peezy. Goto display properties>advanced. then click troubleshooting. Slide the slider bar to "none" Then take your screenshot. then when finished, turn back to full acceleration. (Do not forget otherwise your games wont work.) cool tip man, didn't know about that, thx.

I don't think that's discriminatory!!, I thought that those kind of things only could happen in my country, but not anymore!, hehehe.

Quote: copy right protection Novalogis used this on their Delta force serier - 2 or 3 files on the cd would say they are 1, 2 or even 4g's in size when in fact they are not - it is an old copyright protection and MS could be implemeting this for some reason. Not in all cases. About 8 months ago I saw an "Windows Xp" CD, that actually had more than 4 GB of info, it had Windows XP Pro and Home, some utilities such as partition magic, etc..., but it waS NOT A LEGAL CD FROM MS, it was made reference to one of those "hackers" gorups over there, and yes, I could copy all of the files to my HD w/out any prob.

Norton Internet Security rulz, a little expensive since it brings NAV 2003 builted-in, but damn it does the job!!
-
I think u're not plugging it very well in the AGP slot.., it uses to happen a lot, so try to plug it well as u can, at least to dischard that posibility

Locked my self out of MMC!!! (Group Policy)
el_vago32 replied to Arin's topic in Everything New Technology
Quote: Sorry Arin, but having done this myself also in a Win2k box, the best thing to do with this is laugh at it. I don't actually think he was laughing at you. When I did it I spent a day or two trying to get around it, punched a wall and reformatted it. Then had to cop the usual round of taunts from the rest of the IT division. These days I find that if I don't laugh at these stupid things about computers I just get crazy. Actually I finished laughing about it too (when it happened 2 me, of course), 'cause WTF!, what else could I do!!..., so I think the moral here is: Learn to use it before using it, or enable system restore before. Cheers. -
tvtool 9 sends information to the net??? What address?
el_vago32 replied to Arin's topic in Everything New Technology
I dunno what's the address, but using a firewall software will help u out (I use Norton Internet Security), since it reports about which app is trying to access the net and what is the destination IP address..., so, thinking it'd work 4 u. -
Try unplugging that Cd-rom and booting 'ur pc again, it maybe faulty.

el_vago32 replied to Arin's topic in Everything New Technology
hehe, I falled in that once too, and what I did was a "System Restore"..., system restore is 'ur friend, use it! -
well, I doubt it, but it could also be a temp. issue, check all the system fans out,....hm, I ran out of ideas too, hehe, but it could be an alternative,
