Quote: F***ING S*IT. ;( After running the bsod screensaver. I wanted to get out of it and pressed enter and it gave me a REAL BSOD. WTF PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA I had to reboot my machine. Stupid program. BTW I never had a BSOD with this machine ... until now. Well, I'm sorry man, but I just can laugh

Quote: Quote: www.sysinternals.com a tool there called "bluesave" save save for you any BSOD you may have. they also have a program there to give you a BSOD deliberately, for testing out bluesave. Peruse their programs there, sysinternals utilities are fantastic, and many of them for free. They do have some neat programs, I really like their registry and file monitors. Neat thing about the BSOD screensaver is that regardless of what OS it is running on (NT, 2000, XP) the simulated BSOD is correct for that OS. Yep, I got that one a few months ago and my opinion is that it works "funtastic"...is very smart the way it takes your OS's version and generate the fake BSOD based on the OS, and the "Rebooting" stuff is cooler, specially with fake disk activity. I made out some mean jokes to a few co-workers; you guys had to see their faces, HEHE

OK, i'd like to know (just curiosity) if the Splinter Cell's engine (or all of the Game's engines) uses a different refresh rate that the one i have selected on the displays properties. I've actually selected a 1024X768 Res. @75Hz (for windows enviroment) and a 800X600 Res. for the game, and my monitor supports a few points more than the 1280X1024 res., and i put that res. (1280X1024) at the game's options (by mistake, BTW) and i had the typical mssg "Out of scan range" from my monitor!!!...so i had to manually edit the config file for the game so i didn't have to reinstall it. That's why i'm asking that, 'cause i'm sure that my monitor can support that res. and even higher.

Quote: strange...'cause i have a geoforce 2 and was totally impressed by the games's graphics. Esp the shadow's (lighting) were ultra cool. I would like to get a new video card but not because splinter cell broke its back. The only game that has come close so far..is SOF2 on the huge map (the mansion). I had to scale down the graphics severely to make it playable. Would 'u believe me if tell you that with SOF2 my Pc's performance was so much better than with splinter cell, weird isn't it??

Some of these things maybe have been posted already, but now is my turn, hehe. Recently (the last saturday) I went to a conference about the official release of Windows server 2003, and my opinion about this OS is , OMFG, I guess this is too good to be true man, all the new options: Online seerver management- WTF, i can turn off, restart configure, change most configurations available of the server true the internet, i can connect true an hyper terminal window while a BSOD or the booting process...hot plug PCI and RAM???, this one crossed the line, RAM????, i can unplug a memory modeule while the server is running and the same for pci cards??.... OK, I need some info to get the things clear here, i don't want to be wrong about this all things so any infromation about wrong concepts please don't hesitate and let me know. P.S.: I don't know much about this OS (I just knew that it was going to be named "Windows server 2003" instead of "Windows .net server 2003" ;( ) there are a lot of more things they showed us, there were a lot of people there, about 350 or 400 people, a whole day there (from 9 am to 6 pm), food (HEHE ), and free cd's of RC2 with their respectives licenses, cool man...and the best of all: windows server has the same price than win2K sever...what's the next step??

Quote: After having this installed for close to 2 weeks now, and using the workstation convertion to make it audio-video capable just like XP. I've found this OS to be highly faster and highly stable compared to both XP and 2k. So for those of you who are skeptical, don't be. This is a great OS once you mod it to run games. Some of you say "why use a server OS to run games", well, because in critical benchmarking, games actually run faster on this OS and this OS has better stability and speed. Any gamer would want that. Cool!, i never saw it that way, play games into this OS! :x , so man i'll try with this evaluation copy I got here and see what happens, but first i'd like to know if there are some compatibilities issues present.

Quote: Hot Plug PCI is very old tech so I don't know why it was at the conference you went to. I've been hoping forever that it would trickle down to the cheap end of the market but I guess it's seen as not needed. Really??, i didn't know about any OS which support that feature!!, sorry for my ignorance, but is that I tried to do something like unplug a sound card under win2k running and it crashed very ugly, so I suposse that still it is WindowsXp..would 'u tell me which OS actually supports this feature?...and maybe yes, it's an old technology, but you know how M$ is, they wanna fill up our eyes with pretty things, though old!!

Quote: APK P.S.=> Nice job, the BSOD on the link came up, pretty cool... as well as the reboot screen to an AWARD BIOS which I have here also, might have pulled the wool over my eyes pretty good if I saw it happen & did not examine that BIOS screen carefully! apk It'd be a very nice joke in 'ur case.

Take a read HERE P.S.:=>that's the google translated version, the original version is in spanish and is HERE...And it's NOT a joke.

Your first Internet surf, when and how was it?
el_vago32 replied to CyberGenX's topic in Slack Space
No way man i'm too young here!!, my first one was almost yesterday in comparison with yours, i'm talking about 1998 or '97 -
Heh, check this out! For internet "oldies" here
el_vago32 replied to Marktait's topic in Slack Space

Quote: I think he was just trying to be funny... (All I saw was the word "Bwaaaaahhh", or something like that!) * Oh well... APK Hmmm...so I guess it didn'y work for u, you're supossed to see a nice BSOD, but anyway who cares, now it won't be funny for you anymore.

Hey guys, remember it's April fools, DUUHH!! :x

Quote: Well, I am operating on theory here & physics really... E.G.-> The fact that the larger a file is, the more time it will take to read it up off the platters of the harddisk & thus instance it into memory for usage. APK Well, the fact is that some people here believe that More Ram=Faster Pc, which is true but not in this case, u know you'll have to come to this country someday and treat with some kind of people, hehe, you'll LOL when you hear somebody calling to Tech support and tell you "heyt man, i can't connect to the internet, i already plugged the phone line to the harddisk (OMG!!! ;( ) but nothing happens" (yeah, those kind of things happens here), and i'm not understimating their capabilities, but c'mon!!!!

Quote: * I could be wrong, but I really don't think so as it makes sense... APK Yes, it makes sense, but is a little "paradoxical" that you have a large size of RAM and 'ur Pc is slower hibernating, HEH, I understand that but believe me that some customers won't understand it that way!
-
Quote: Quote: I find the hibernate function very useful, but a tad slow. It usually takes a full minute to resume from power on. Although I have noticed a speed increase from 2000 and I have quite a bit of memory installed (512) I think it should be a bit quicker than this. I have the Bootvis util... would that help at all, and if so how do I use it to best effect? thanks Your amount of RAM may be in fact, what is causing your "slowdown"... believe it or not. IIRC, Hibernation features take the contents of your RAM & write it to a file on disk, saving the state of affairs in the system, to reload it upon powering up the RAM & other parts again, reading that file's contents & repopulating it into memory once more. (There used to be Win3.x programs that actually did this as well, but let you powerdown your system & upon powerup, would send you IMMEDIATELY to the screens you had going on shutdown, apps loaded & all! It was a GOOD idea, that is now being practically & usefully used on Win32 Os' now like 2k/XP!) ANYHOW: A 512mb sized file, especially up off a diskbound read, might take a bit of time to do! APK P.S.=> Only thing I can figure that MIGHT help it some, would be getting a faster HDD so the read & access time is faster/quicker, defragging (assuming the Hibernation Data file is not an excluded from defragger access file, some are), or cranking up & overclocking your CPU & RAM speeds in the BIOS to make it a BIT quicker... but I doubt it'd be like MASSIVELY NOTICEABLY faster etc., as it still is hitting the slowest part of your system, your harddisks, to do its job... apk So, what 'u mean is that the larger is your RAM size, the slower that will be the Hibernation process?

HEHE, well, when i logged in NTC forums this morning i noticed that i was already a Senior Member (nice!!), and i don't know what does THIS link makes reference to, since every time I click on it it just says "No Groups Exist", so I supossed that when I became on a Senior Member (It sounds good, hehe) i could see something there, but nothing happens..., so what are the Usergroups supossed to be??
-
Quote: Well, I think that some of the polls are 'too good', meaning that all thats required is a few clicks. Not everyone will want to go into more detail than what is offered by a poll option. For example, if there was a poll about what anti-virus software you preferred, I would imagine there would be many votes, but considerably less comments, as the vote speaks for itself, albeit less vocally. Yeah, I agree with that, but i mean that most people just see the options and don't even click on an option!!, that suxx!! ;(

Quote: Quote: Actually i think that the best AV for 'u is the one that better work with your Pc (...) Since when AV began to be hardware or software dependent?? Ok, what i meant was about your software config. (the softwares you have installed), 'cause i've seen a lot of annoying conflicts between AV and others Apps (solved installing other AV 8) ), anyway, some AV requires more system's resources than others when loading at startup and if your Pc doesn't have those resources (HARDWARE STUFFS) you gonna have troubles.
-
Quote: For me its W2K all the way, having problems with xp right from the start (betatester). W2K is faster in rendering mpg4, uses less resources, doesnt need activation (whatever that is...), lets me install new hardware without reactivation (see above), has not 20 spywares installed per default from ms, is rockstable and in my eyes its the os ms has put most care in, as it was the first merging of nt and w9x. Beside that i use server 2003 rc2, but only once in a month to nourish my W2K from the outside. You have a point with that, but still like more XP Pro because I think that XP will be getting better through time (only SP1a, Win2k SP3), even it'll take a little while to debug the OS, perhaps the graphical interface in XP is nicer, hehehe.

Quote: Try Kaspersky Antivirus.. In my opinion even better than Norton. OH God illuminate me!, what the heck??, i didn't know about that one, hehehe. Actually i think that the best AV for 'u is the one that better work with your Pc and BTW mine is Norton, but since that post up there, hehe, well what can I say??? (with no offense)
