I found that disabling buffer overrun detection for the CPU in the BIOS sorted this out. Weird but there ya go!

I've finally got around to up[censored] the page so it now is much neater. As part of the reorganisation, I've added a much needed FAQ section where I describe the problems and solutions, etc. Please feel free to give me some feedback! The URL for the fix is as it always is: http://www.adamhearn.co.uk/games/themeparkworld/tpwwin2kfix.html A recap for anyone who's new here and hasn't read the forum history! I found a fix for the main problem of running Theme Park World/Sim Theme Park under Windows 2000/XP - that is it quits when entering a park. The fix has a very high success rate (100% with my own installations) so it's worth a try! Hope it helps! Cheers, Adam

Quote: Hello all, I am becoming crazy !! I'm trying to play Megarace2 under WinXP but it's impossible ! No error msg when I start the megarace.exe ( i've tried with dos console ) When I launch the install.bat, it displays the installation page with the music installation, it copies without problem on c:\mega2 . But when I start the game ! PAF !! nothing's happening, no error msg. I've tried with VDMSound but it told me that MSCDEX is not present or something like this. I've tried to swap mscdexnt.exe with an other version "sapucdex.exe" wich normally should work ( in autoexec.nt ) but it still does not work, even same msg. I've tried too with Dosbox, but it doesnt work, it closed the windows launching the game. The only way I see is to emulate Win98 with something like Virtual PC or install Win98 ! But I do not have anymore Win 98 ='( I dont understand why the installation is OK and not the game, surely the VESA mode ? I dont think it's the sound .... Please if someone got an idea, answer me ! Thanks a lot cya ! Get the VDMSound Launchpad addin (same download location) and you can set the game to use VESA and provide the MSCDEX MR2 needs. I never owned MR2 so I cannot test it for you, sorry (got 1 & 3)

Quote: Thanks a LOT, but do you know where I can get the Win 98 driver? I'm really getting pissed off at Microsoft. ;( Well, go and use another OS if you think it'll be any better for you! Microsoft have annouced that ALL Sidewider peripherals are being phased out. It's a shame as the h/w is excellent though the s/w is clearly lacking any r&d effort 0 been that way for many years. Never understand Microsoft's position on the Sidewinder range :x

Win2K does not support UPnP. However, if you're after playing games then installing DX9 will give up UPnP I don't think that anything else will use the DX [version] of UPnP - just software written with DirectPlay.

Quote: Also for UT the most efficient video API's are: OGL D3D Glide Software So try OGL but make sure you have the latest ATI drivers loaded. Depends on your vid card and settings on the OpenGL vs D3D. The latest OpenGL renderer was very good though (http://unreal.epicgames.com) and is a tad faster than D3D (in my config). If you grab the latest renderers don't be surprised if the latest beta D3D driver doesn't work - it's crap! Back on topic: It's very unlikey to be RAM (UT runs very well on machines with 256MB). Have you got any joysticks loaded/enabled? Set your desktop and game resolution settings to be the same (one of my friends said this help him!)

There was a (very) unofficial pack for DX5 on NT4... The files came from an early Windows NT5 (2000) beta - and NOT from Microsoft! You 'might' find it on the web (it was called dx5nt.zip) - use Google I'm amazed I remembered what the file was called! A LOT has changed (SP6x) since it was released so it may trash your system or simply not work anymore. On a more official line any reason you haven't upgrade to Win2K yet? Not sure if Theme Hospital works on it either but you'll be able to run other things! Best of luck!

Had same issue on Win2K but managed to find a solution Check out my web page - it should work for XP to.

Perfectly? I've had on and off success with Force Feedback with a MS gameport wheel. It generally doesn't work If you got a USB one I think it works better? Grand Prix Legends WAS 'sort of' happy (and has now stopped working) Toca2 has never given me any FF under Win2K And Cheezestk, I know EXACTLY what you mean about NOT needing to buy another one

I may have found the solution, check out my site

Found this last week and it's excellent! http://scummvm.sourceforge.net/ I've been playing DOTT and MI2 - looks goog as well as the emulator does 2x anti-aliasing!

I'm almost 100% sure that VDMSound will allow you to run Build engined games (Duke3D, etc.). I went through a phase of playing all my old stuff and I'm sure I got it all to work on my Win2K box. Check out their webby at http://www.ece.mcgill.ca/~vromas/vdmsound/ This was listed in Update1: Quote: VDMServices module now makes an undocumented system call to get around the PUSHF/CLI/POPF problem (fixes "Doom", "Doom 2", "Duke 3D", "Heretic", "Hexen", "Rise of the Triad", "Wacky Wheels", etc.). OR try SoundFX2000 from http://www.softsystem.co.uk/page3.htm Quote: SoundFX provides a complete emulation of a SoundBlaster 16 card and hence enables old favourites such as Doom (1 & 2), Heretic, Duke Nukem (2 & 3D) etc to be run with sound under Windows 2000 & NT. I'd sooner go with VDMSound as its still being developed and free. Vlad has done an excellent job methinks - better than Microsoft and it's SB-Pro emulation in WinXP!! Best of luck!
