Intersting info indeed, I have an older P3 notebook and I want to see about possible mods on that before attempting anything on my P4 notebook However, I can only see so much benefit unless you want to increase the case size and possibly not let it fit into the carrying case anymore without getting another one that is.

Probably not in that you have to understand that notebooks have even less free air space then slimline's do so there is less ambient air to help cool things down. Even on an older Celeron/Socket 370 notebook like yours the cooling method is still most likely aluminum as the cooling block instead of copper like most of todays machines. This helps to save weight however it also ins't as good a heat transfer material as copper is. 68c is still well within the manufacturers specs, which I think is 90c on on the socket 370 cpu's You could however check with the manufacturer of the notebook and find out if they offered a copper cooling solution for that model or not. Another option is to remove the CPU cover and see if the heatsink is removable and check out the thermal paste, it maybe that is has dried up and needs to be cleaned off and a fresh layer of paste added again. You will be surprised at how well even the basic thermal paste does to help the heat transfer to the cooling device

So I take it then you are using the XP(SP2) firewall instead ?!? If so, have you looked at the advanced settings thru the Windows Firewall Control Panel applet ??? I do believe it will have the options you need to do this port forwarding you requested

I don't want a plug-in for WMP, I simply want to REMOVE the Roxio burner that's embedded in WMP9, because, as I see it, you must never have installed a second burner when you already have Nero. The two will conflict. Simple, go into the Services.msc applet and disable the IMAPI Service and there you go You will not be able to burn directly from WMP however you still can burn any rips made from WMP with NERO.

Is there a free RAM DISK driver for Windows XP or 2003
jmmijo replied to Christianb's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Or find one of the APK Tools releases as he did a fantastic job on his suite and it does include and RAM Disk driver too -
I found a few possible leads with a GOOGLE search Sorry, but I'm not aware of any such wrappers for OpenGL.

Another thing you could do is to look for hardware monitor apps that can read the current CPU & GPU temps. Then run a game and after running this game for awhile just quit the game and immediately check the temps. Do this a few times to get a good mean temp average. You will want to be sure you run the game the same amount of time for each session too If you prefer to let the machine run all night, the d/l and install 3D Mark 2001-SE, this version has the continuous run ability and it does a very good stress test to the system as well.

I would like to host my own website...
jmmijo replied to tugmistress's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Yes, but you need to first check with your current ISP as most/many do not allow web site hosting on their normal home user accounts. -
Nice rig there and welcome to the forums

Thanks, done and done

Yeah, pretty much what Sampson said. If you live here in the states then check out CompUSA or Fry's Electronics for GPU/Graphics Card cooling solutions. Other options include online etailers like NewEgg for instance, I've dealt many time with them and they always treated me great The sound you hear/heard could indeed be the cooling fan however, the fact you smealt that burning carbon smell tells me that some component/components may have burnt beyond repair so this solution may not work and the card may have to be sent into ATi for repair. Other things to check are the power supply and the motherboard for any burnt or burnt smelling components just in case.

Sure why shouldn't notebooks count -

Most likely you will find only information on the Socket A version as I don't think they ever made this for Socket 754, but you never know for sure

If you go to AMD's website you can detailed info on this very thing

Yeah, this sounds like the nForce 3 memory timing issue where if you have more then (2)Two sticks of DDR400/PC3200 installed, it slows the speed down to the next notch, usually DDR333/PC2700. As far as I know there are no fixes to this.

How do you like the front page of NTCompatible? (Content)
jmmijo replied to DosFreak's topic in Feedback
Philip, the colors are better and easier to read, well at least for me that is. I do find that the columns are too narrow as well. Luckily Maxthon allows me to increase the text size pretty easily so I can view things better. -
Verizon DSL slows down P2P after the trial period is over.
jmmijo replied to docdestructo62's topic in Slack Space
Perhaps there is a bigger issue at hand. Have you tried playing any online games, be it subscription based or free, without using any kind of P2P app what so ever ?!? I would be curious if these too act the same way without any P2P apps running just to verify that this is a connection issue with the ISP or something else happening that could pinpoint the cause of this slow down. If you have similar throughput issues with online games then I think it maybe an ISP issue and you then need to contact Verizon about this issue, however, only mention the online game or games that you play and not the P2P apps The fact that web browsing seems to work without any P2P apps may also help to pinpoint this slow down issue. -

Yeah I agree, it's nice to have a tool like Google to find archived threads like this one is it not I myself had only exprienced this issue on an older VIA chipset board and then it got fixed when I updated one of the INF/Chipset drivers. It has not come back with any of the motherboards I've used since, be it Intel, nVidia or even a VIA chipset board. Of course most users do tend to use the onboard sound codec instead of a third party expansion card.

I recently built a new Pimp Daddy Gaming Rig and you folks may want to check out the specs. -
It's a bummer and I feel for you on this one Arin Interesting issue, I do wonder if the nForce 4 chipset has the same limitation or not as I just recently purchased an SLI gaming rig, hmmmm....

I got a64 tweak and adjusting it to 200mhz is not possible. it just locks up. Well now we know what's up, I have a feeling this is a limitation with the chipset and not the motherboard itself.

Not necessarily, you should double-check with Gigabyte on this one. You do have the latest BIOS rev installed ?!? Also note that since this is an nForce 3 chipset, there maybe some things that are limited, i.e., 3 or 4 sticks of memory vs. 1 or 2 sticks of ram. I seem to recall that this was an issue before the nForce 4 chipset
