Well since no mention of the OS was made I'm going to *assume* Windows XP. So have you tried to do a repair install with the new graphics card installed ?!? Once you've done the repair install, I would upgrade to SP2, unless your install media already has this as part of the install process, the package will be marked, includes SP2. Then install the latest chipset software from Viaarena.com, the 4-in-1 Service Pack is what you need here. Then install the latest Catalyst drivers from atitech.com, it's either v5.2 or 5.3 being the latest available now.

Did you verify that you have the controller ports set for Enhanced mode rather then Auto mode ?!? This is in the system BIOS, I think the Advanced BIOS Settings area. The only other thing would be to make sure *all* device drivers are current/latest versions installed on the IDE drive, since that is working. I personally use Drive Image Pro and have done this multiple times both here at work and at home with no problems, so I know this should work I have to assume that you are disconnecting the IDE/ATA hard drive once you've done the cloning as having more then one active partition with OS's installed can be problmatic at best

Those stupid banner contests??? do they work?? any of them???
jmmijo replied to latino85's topic in Slack Space
I don't see any of them anymore, not since switching over to Maxthon as my browser and configuring a special hosts file As for spam like that, I figured they were just there to lure folks into heading to some malware site for a dose sugar incrusted goodness -

If this is indeed an ATX power supply, then check out the specs at THIS site for more info. Look at section 3.3.2 for the PS_ON# pin which needs to be an active low

The best option for installing new is to create/burn a slip-streamed SP2 into your install media. I personally use THIS site for helping out with this kind of thing

Go into the system BIOS and make sure both the primary and secondary IDE controllers are ENABLED and then try connecting the IDE hard drive up to the secondary controller port and see what happens this time
-
If you are using a secondary SCSI controller card then you will have to do an F6 install whether you attempt to install Win 2K or XP. Do this by booting off the install CD and note at the bottom of the screen just after the boot process starts, you should see a line that states "Press the F6 key to install a third party RAID/SCSI controller driver." Do this and have your floppy disc with the correct drivers on them handy. The install process will ask for a floppy disc to be inserted when you press the 'S' key at some point in this install process. If you connect an IDE hard drive to the primary port on that motherboard, then an F6 install should not be neccessary, however, if there are still problems then there could indeed be some sort of hardware issue that Win 98 seems to gloss over/ignores.

That configuration I've found mainly in the lower to mainstram boards (micro through to most on board graphics). I just found this anomily when bench testing both a IDE and SATA same size drive in the same box. Ah I see now. As to the configs I build, no, there isn't a reason to install an IDE(PATA) drive into a new system build when it has SATA ports, so no, I've never tried that config out and I think it's best to go with all SATA at this point, the price difference is so small now So far I've not built any systems without the ICH6R chipset onboard, as a system builder I use primarialy, Asus, Intel and Aopen motherboards.

Just out of curiosity, what are you basing this theory on ?!? I've been building quite a few 915/925 chipset systems recently, most being non-RAID with a single SATA drive and they all work just fine. Of course the non-RAID mode systems I left the chipset in the IDE mode as this then doesn't require an F6 install of the OPK pre-installs I use on a daily basis

You should visit the OEM's website to get the latest device drivers for the 5598/6326 onboard graphics drivers. Remove the 6326 graphics card to do this as you want to test if perhaps that PCI card is not working properly. Once you've tested out the onboard graphics adapter and it appears to be working properly, then reinstall the 6326 PCI card, but into a different PCI slot. The reason is because the slot you had the graphics card in maybe bad or just some excess dirt/dust is causing some of the pins not to make good electrical contact Another thing you may want to try out is to verify that there are no phantom devices installed. Go into device manager when in SAFE MODE, and check out the graphics adapter(s) listing. If there is more then one 6326 listed, you need to remove them all and then restart the machine and see if the OS redetects the correct card.

GA-K8NXP-SLI 2 x 6600GT Help please SLI not working
jmmijo replied to purple_rob's topic in Hardware
Hey that's great news, I read THAT entire thread and if I decide on getting the Gigabyte SLI rig over the Asus model, then I'll know what to do -
Farscape is also a very fine Sci-Fi series, I also hear that it will be back in a recurring mini-Series format. Nothing like Claudia Black in those skin-tight leathers

Just finished Forever Knight Season 2 DVD Set, now if only the fan base could generate enough cash to bring that show back! I agree with you on this one dosfreak, I thought Forever Knight was an edgy Children of the Night series. I do believe it was a Canadian produced show too They are now really starting to put together a plethora of good Sci-Fi series, Stargate: SG1 and Atlantis are two that come to mind and don't forget The X-Files too Also, one of my all-time favorites from the Great White North ehhhh, was Lexx. Just give me either Xevv/Zevv and I'll be a happy camper

Hmm, that's a sad tale of woe indeed I'm glad that so far, Comcast has been very, very nice for me. They recently upgraded to 4Mbs from 3 last month Before that it was ATTBI which also ran just fine and before that I had Qwest xDSL which was great too. Had one outage which Qwest fixed in about 2~3 hours... I'm knocking on wood now

and since it's over a LAN then it should be pretty darn fast too

Are the machines networked via ethernet ?!? If so then you should be able to use something like an FTP server on the XP side and an appropriate FTP client on the MAC side. I'm not sure about using the File & Printer sharing options however, as this applies to Windows machines. I'm not sure if OS9.xx has support for this. Another option maybe to use something like Samba, however, I'ver not really played around with this much

You may want to see if you can find some updated device drivers for that NIC, especially if it's an onboard device. Perhaps the updated drivers will resolve the AUTO media speed issue for you
-
Hopefully it's not the router as I use a Linksys model and share the entire house with it, usually 3 or 4 machines on at the same time
-
Yeah it's sad that so many ISP's do this but I guess in a way I can see why, it's cost's them money As for the issue at hand, did you try forcing your PC's NIC to a specific speed rather then use the AUTO option ?!? Sometimes you have to force the speed to 100 Full Duplex or 10 Half Duplex etc. to get the connection to work properly. Also, when both machines are connected, are you using the DHCP function of the NIC ?!? Basically this means that you have the NIC settings to get an IP address automatically rather then use a static IP address. Static's require that you enter in DNS server info as well Also, check the cabling too, perhaps you have a faulty or incompatible cable between the router and the PC.

If it's a socket 754 board then it will have an AGP slot and not PCIe. If you get one of the socket 939 boards, it will most likely have the new PCIe slot, however there are still many with only the AGP slot. You need to make sure which you have because you can't get a board that has both an AGP and a PCIe slot for graphics, yet
