    Internet Browser Speed Test Comparisons

OK, seems to be working now, when I get home tonight I'll try it out again, perhaps I have this domain black listed or something ?!?

Please have a look at this system

For a slim budget, it looks good. I would however recommend THIS power supply instead As a system builder we are now selling a lot of these and they hold up really well in that they have two thermally controlled cooling fans...

    New Browser Exploit ?!?

FYI, Has anybody read THIS article yet ?!? Seems to be an exploit that does not involve IE

Do I need to update chipset Sis656 for USB 2.0?

Well because you are using Win 98, you may not be able to find a USB2 device driver, even from SiS's website However, try their site just to make sure. Go to the downloads section and look for that chipset and all the drivers available for Win 98. Knowing Microsoft, they will not be producing an updated driver for what they now call a legacy OS Another alternative is to purchase a third-party USB2 card, they almost always have driver support for Win 98

    free music for on-hold system

That does kinda suck, I'll check with my corporate office to verify this license then So does anybody know if this same license is required when you use a service like DMX or Music Choice ?!? Also I wonder then if somebody is playing their hi-gi too loud is this also breaking the license

You do, hmm, never heard of that license before, is it something only in Australia or what ?!?

    free music for on-hold system

The company I work for uses a small walkman tuner that is set for a local jazz station and is connected to our PBX system
  9. I found a few tips and such on this subject however short of a reinstall/restore point, I couldn't really find a way to correct this. When I click on a link with the .vob extension and left click on it, WMP automatically opens. If I use the right click and save as, well you guessed it, not a direct link, only the redir *.htm/html gets saved So to make a long story short I installed Mozilla Firefox for the first time, it's really a nice alternative to IE/Maxthon and the like. Well this worked for me, I could just left click on it and then Save As.

I will also miss viewing the Andorian women as well
  11. To me the best things about ST: TNG was the Borg and Q I wish they had killed off Wesley right away, perhaps a nice singularity would be appropote
  12. Well dosphreak, not sure there will be anybody here to defend the series, however I came up with another name when I first watched the pilot "Quantum Space" just because Scott Bakula is in it

and my favorite one of them all, I have a few older DOS boxes and a couple of somewhat speedier machines for Win 9x I just love my old Ensonique Soundscape ISA card for games
  14. I agree APK, I think that narrow-band is the bane of the net But seriously, I do really think that network and timeout issues are really exaggerated with a dial-up connection. I think for whatever reason you can have a decent connection for say some servers via your ISP but others maybe having some larger then normal network congestion/traffic and/or other breakdowns in the connection between your ISP and that particular server farm

    Intel Chipset Installation Utility Questions

First things first, is the XP install cd the latest, that is does it come with SP2 or SP1a ?!? If only the latter then make sure you get and install SP2 first then go ahead and update the rest fo the driver packackes. Then I would get the latest INF/Chipset software installation utility from Intel's website to make sure that the version that came with your motherboard isn't corrupted or has some kind of bug that is causing this issue with your mouse. I've never had this issue myself, unless it's been a defective USB port and/or mouse Also, if the motherboard BIOS settings are at their default then the onboard USB should be enabled and set for USB2 mode as well. However if you have any other USB device then you should try this out too just to make sure it's not some sort of compatibility issue with your USB mouse and that motherboard

    Intel Chipset Installation Utility Questions

I would ignore the flags, they really are not needed for the average user. Just run the install app and when it's finished you restart the machine, simple as that The flags are really for admins and/or testing if inedeed you have some instalation issues.

    Removable HDD rack

Well AFAIK RAID Zero does not support Hot-Swapping so this is not going to work in that respect, however I think it should work in non hot-swap mode, i.e., you have to power down the machine before removing or inserting the drive carriers Now the only reason I can see you wanting to do this for a RAID Zero config is the ease of replacing a drive but if a drive fails in a Raid Zero config, then most likely the data is fragged and you have to start over once again The other possible advantage would be the cooling fan that these cages usually come with as well, but since so many chassis come with added cooling for HD's this seems to be a moot point as well.

    Graphics Driver issue

Jared Ghioto Hey I understand your fustration about this but come on, yelling is not going to help your situation any. So having said my piece, here's some tips to try out. 1) Install the latest chipset/inf drivers from Intel's website. 2) Install the latest graphics drivers from nVidia's website. I would also recommend re-installing DirectX 9.0c once again, just to be sure there has not been any corrupted files there from a previous install

Pls Help--GF 6600 GT blue screen problem

Originally posted by Ol Jock 99: Quote: dell....i know, i know, i know...such a good deal...headaches now... Well this changes things, in that you have a warranty, and I do believe that Dell has an on-site warranty so perhaps you can schedule something with them and describe the issues you are having. Perhaps it is just a flaky PS but also there could be some other hardware issue going on that is corrupting the OS. One thing that needs to be checked is to have the on-site tech reseat the graphics card just to make sure it didn't come loose, most motherboards have some sort of locking mechanism for the graphics card but some do not Also the OS should be re-installed, I find it best to backup any important data and reformat the HD and start with a fresh install.

Any ideas on how to get the OS back to the original state?? You can try the system restore option but if you suspect some OS issues this maybe a moot point as well You will most likely have to flatline and start with a fresh/new OS install. I really however recommend that you look at something more then a 300 watt PS, any Socket T/LGA775 system really needs to have more like a 400 watt PS, one with at least 15A on the +12VDC rail

Pls Help--GF 6600 GT blue screen problem

I'm going to hazard a guess that the power supply may not be up to snuff with all this hardware. Look at the label on the power supply and note where it says +12VDC xx Amps or something very similar. It should be at least 15A and with some power supplies this may not be enough even I recommend a good brand like those from Antec or Ennermax. Also if you don't mind purchasing the brand name behind the Antec label, then go for Channel Well, basically they are a huge ODM/OEM for many brands out there like Antec for instance. I personally use the Channel Well ISO series, the 500D model. It has dual cooling fans, both thermally controlled and it runs very quiet. The NV4_DISP error message can also relate to some corrupted device drivers, in this case the graphics card drivers and possibly some OS system file problems, most likely it's the device drivers.

Allocation of memory on local drives

Ah, that does make a difference then Partition Magic allows you to resize and even merge adjacent partitions together however I don't recall if it could move data that already exists on one of the partitions and moves it over to the partition you've resized or not. Basically you maybe in a position where it would be better to backup any important data first, then do a complete wipe of both partitions and reinstall the OS onto one partition rather then into two smaller ones like you currently have. The other option to consider, especially for notebook/laptop owners is to purchase an external USB enclosure with the HD capacity you wish to have, for instance an 80~120GB models are pretty inexpensive for this particular use

Allocation of memory on local drives

Well may I suggest you don't and just add a second larger capacity HD as a single HD partition instead HD's have gotten very cheap now and you can easily add a second drive as the SLAve drive after jumpering the original as the MASter drive.
  25. @kirt, make sure that you have Enhanced mode configured in your System BIOS settings. The default is usually AUTO which sometimes works and sometimes does not. @Happy Now, yeah, it's somewhat confusing but all the user needs to find out is what ICHxx that is on their current motherboard, this should be detailed either on the motherboard box labe, at least Asus and Aopen do this or in the motherboard manual, wether it's a printed one or an online PDF It looks like INTEL just released a new version of the floppy boot drivers disk for F6 installs...
