Another thing, make sure that your PC reads your 3.2CPU as 3.2, cause the P4C800-E Deluxe has a problem with the 3.2 prescott CPU, you have to update the BIOS to be able to read the CPU correctly, I think it only reads it as a 2.8 without the update. That could also be why your Temp is so low imo. Wicked Well I had to flash the BIOS with an old Northwood CPU first anyways because it wouldn't post without the latest BIOS installed As for the Q-Fan option, I never use it or any other Smart Fan type of BIOS option. Just a sure way to over-heat your CPU and case cooling IMO

Most likely the motherboard BIOS can only see up to an 8.4GB HD. You will have to get a controller card like THIS one to use that hard drive

If so then you should have noticed the thermal pad on the bottom of the heatsink, pretty much centered and covering up the copper core If you purchased an OEM cpu and an OEM heatsink/fan then that may not have come with a thermal pad. If that was the case then yes, even generic white thermal paste would help out a lot, let alone some of the high quality Silver Paste that is out now Also note, that if you purchased a Prescott core CPU it should be either a copper core or a solid copper heatsink/fan type. Basically any P4 from 3GHz on (for Northwood core) or any of the Prescott core, this includes the Celeron D, has a copper core heatsink/fan. How do I know this, because of all the system builds I make. We use boxed CPU's only because of the warranty and this has always been the case

Hmm, I just recently upgraded to the Asus P4C800-E Deluxe mobo and the 3.2E CPU. I'm using the stock, copper core heatsink/fan and just ran a couple hour stress test with 3D Mark 2001-SE in looping mode. The max temp so far is 50.5c and I did notice that the thermal CPU fan was speeding up to around 3800~3900 RPM. This is what it should do as the CPU temp rises. I wonder does either of your machines show the fan speeding up at all or does it stay at the slower speed of about 2500 RPM ?!? I want to run my box for awhile with the stock cooling and then try again with my Zalman copper bloom and see what the difference is

Well I'm sorry to say that EA is your only other recorse in this matter. They are the onese that publish the CD Key's for their own products and their affiliated labels as well. I understand your fustration in this matter but asking anybody on this forum to provide you tips on how to circumvent this is not a good idea either, I certainly will not provide you or anybody else for that matter this kind of info, even if I did know how. The reality is that somebody else has some kind of Key Gen app for this title and has registered their pirated copy with that same key it appears, EA, the publisher is the only one that can do anything about this.

It was basically about some sort of mutated giant squid like creature attacking a huge luxury liner in the south china sea and eating the passengers whole, ummm, tasty

Interesting indeed, however I didn't see Archotuthus (Giant Squid) in here

Best FREE FTP Client and Server Programs out there in your opinion?

THIS is what I use for my FTP Server Daemon THIS is what I use for my FTP Client The FTP Server is freeware but the FTP Client is a commercial product, however I think it's worth every penny -
Geeze Louise, all this for one lousy game

Probably 2-3TB (and I could do it pretty easily too with 400GB drives available. Get the largest watt PSU that PC Power & Cooling has... I'd use some LN2 cooling setup...for everything, but if something couldn't work, I supposed I'd do a peltier setup and just toss in a 300-400W power supply just to run the peltiers. The only problem is that I've yet to see a dual-Athlon 64 system, however there are plenty of Dual Opteron motherboards out there but I think they are all AGP slot only. Now if either AMD or nVidia comes up with a dual-PCI Express slot board to support dual-opteron, then I think you'll be cooking with hot EVOL

Yeah, do you have any spare parts to test with ?!? If not then you're going to need to get some known working parts to test with or call in a consultant that has spare parts to test with or if these units are under warranty, then call the manufacturer As for any more tips/tricks, well nothing else you can do until you get some more spare parts to test with unfortunately

Yes I suppose I'm [censored] myself, but hey, with age comes wisdom Anyways, back in the USAF, I was maintaning a C-130 Flight Simulator, yes the real one with the 6-point motion base and computer gnerated graphics. The simulator was controlled by (3)Three Perkin-Elmer 8-32D's which were actually mini-Computers with those huge floor standing CDC hard drive units The cooling was an elevated floor that was cooled via a heat exchanger, a huge outdoor radiator that had chilled water flowing over it. Now I think they just call them chillers.
-
Actually, I would custom design the cooling system myself, it would be a heat-exchanger system based around liquid nitrogen and would cool a central radiator like in a standard combustion engine in that the coolant would circulate around from the heat sinks that are attached to vital components, such as the CPU, GPU and chipset, north and south bridges. There would be a central large cooling radiator for which I would have a one or more 120mm, thermal fans so that the ambient air temp stays frosty The other thing I would do would be to have an elevated floor for my computer room. The floor tiles could be lifted to reveal a crawl-space where tempurature controlled AC is feed into and thru my custom rig and out thru the top and back behind the walls for a return thru the heat exchanger once more. Of course the custom chassis would be sealed so only the cooler air gets into the bottom of the chassis before the hotter air gets exhausted thru the top. I will also isolate vibration and noise via dampeners and dampening material to attempt to eliminate as much fan noise as possible. I'm thinking I could make up both a P4 Extrem Edition and an Athlon 64-FX rig. Of course with the Athlon I could go with an SLI config or get Gigabyte's new Combo Motherboard + Dual-GPU graphics package

Since these are all identical machines, then you have an somewhat easier time finding the culprit on this. It also sounds like each one is doing the same thing or are you saying just the one machine is doing the spontaneous reboot thing ?!? If it's just the one machine and the fact that you've replaced some of the obvious components, I have to recommend that you try the power supply on this one machine. Swap it out with one of the other power supplies from one of the working machines. If the problem goes away then it looks like the power supply is at fault. However, try one more thing to verify this, install that suspected bad power supply into the same machine you swapped it's power supply out to test with. If the problem now shows up on that machine then you've really found the problem component A couple more things to try as well is the memory and when you re-install, don't do a repair install, delete the partition and reformat (LONG) to make sure everything is working properly. I know it takes longer but it can possibly find other issues too, like if the HDD is faulty as well.

You know I'm thinking I may never, ever play the SIM's series of games anymore just because of the rampant SIMS2 threads on this forum [Edited by jmmijo on 2005-01-10 18:03:51]

It is however, more of a template to follow than a step-by-step guide though. Yeah, now I remember that thread, man too many gray cells have lost their edge now Thanks for the reminder here However, I do say that it is much easier to install a floppy drive or get a USB floppy drive and adjust your BIOS settings then to create one of these disks

I don't know because I don't use them They seem to be just glorified .plan files anyways -

Check the power supply first, could be underpowered for this system. Also check all the power connectors too, reseat them on the motherboard and all the drives just in case. Also, could be a thermal issue with the CPU, be sure the heatsink/fan is mounted properly, it doesn't hurt to reseat this as well
