    New, temporary banner for NTCompatible

I love the banner felix, I was thinking the same thing over this past weekend, I shudder to think about Christmas and the weeks after when there will be a lot more ?'s asked when users get their new boxes along with the Sims 2

Please help I have no clue!!

If so then no, this is a hardware device and needs to be installed into the computer, usually the AGP slot, however you can also still find some PCI slot cards too. The only reason I can think of why you are asking this is because your current computer is using onboard graphics and you want to play some games that require a better graphics card, is this correct ?!?

Two Promise controllers don't work together

It appears that the Promise SATA RAID controller is being initialized first before the onboard Promise controller is. Try swapping the SATA RAID controller to another PCI slot until the onboard controller gets initialized first. The other issue could be that both controllers are trying to use the same address space for their own BIOS rom, I do believe that Promise has an option to adjust this in the Controller config/setup options.

    Pentium4 3.0GHz Prescott

Well this is typical of a Prescott core CPU fan, it's thermally controlled and has a copper center core to help with all that power dissapation If you want something quiter, you'll have to get a third party heatsink fan, a solid copper heatsink, thermal paste and bigger fan. I like the ones that Zalmann makes, solid copper blooms with a separate 92mm fan. You can also get a 120mm fan for an even quiter mode of operation.
  5. My issue is that I really can't see spending about $300 on a caching app/driver no matter what it did for me. I really think they need to produce a desktop edition for the end user and optimize it for gaming I can tell you that many of us hard core gamers would like to get better performance out of our rigs but not at that kind of cash I would really like to see how this app runs on standard 7200 SATA drives in a RAID Zero array
  6. Well I also asked you an important, to me that is, question about Speedcache, take a gander over at your speed thread please See you laterz as I'm heading home from work now, a nice 4 day weekend for me, hahahahahaha
  7. So APK, are you thinking about creating one of these yourself, the other post seemed to indicate this to me I would much rather pay you then somebody else that's for sure
  8. @APK, now that we have gone totally OT on this thread how about I move my questions over to the caching thread.

However they are still working on releasing the XP version...
  10. However, there is one caveat on this, if you already have 4K cluster sized partition(s), then there is no need to convert as this is the most effecient size you could want to use for NTFS. I think you only need to use the less effecient 16, 32, 64K cluster sizes on partitions larger then 4TB, which ATM can only be had in very large RAID arrays

Natalie You could try installing the latest device drivers by going to HERE and choosing the correct driver package for you inegrated graphics chipset and I would also make sure you have DirectX 9.0c and the VIA 4-in-1 driver package too. If this doesn't resolve the issue then I would recommend getting an entry level graphics card and installing that into the motherboard's AGP slot, since most of these boards do have an AGP 4x/8x slot. One thing you can find are some pretty cheap entry level cards, like the Geforce 4-MX 440 or the latest replacement for it, the MX4000. Also Radeon 7500/8500 are pretty darn cheap too along with the 9200/9500 cards...

    Intel Raid

Also note many/most of the Intel SCSI RAID controllers are OEM LSI Logic made cards. You can enter the cards RAID Array utility using the CTRL + G option when the card displays it's BIOS information.

Please help me with an answer. Question : If I shall buy a graphic card (Gecube 9550GU, 128 Ram) what am I supposed to do with the integrated one? Can I simply take out the 32 ram from bios and put it back to the ram? Most/Many motherboards will simply disable the onboard graphics adapter once it detects an AGP graphics card is connected to it. Some however require that you do indeed go into the system BIOS and disable the onboard graphics, this will also free up whatever amount of shared memory was allocated to it

Yes it can, as the three above listed messages in your original post all point to the same cause, flakey/bad/incompatible ram. The reason I suggested running a single stick along with slowing down the memory speed it to see if indeed the memory and motherboard combo can run together at the faster 400 FSB speed, you may find it can't and/or can't when running more then one stick of ram
  15. Try running with just a single stick of memory and try running the memory at either 266 or 333 instead of 400 and see what happens.
  16. Well if you have to use an archive utility, then may I suggest the best one around, at least in my opinion that is , Veritas Backup Exec as it will backup system and open files if you need it too. I use it at work to archive our domain controller.
  17. If you have an old 10~20GB HD lying around then I would connect that up as a SLAVE drive and format it then archive that folder to that secondary drive You could do the same thing with an external USB/Firewire HD as well...
  18. The first thing I would do would be to uninstall and unbind the NetBEUI protcol bound to each and every device on all the machines, meaning any NIC/Modems too. You only need to run/bind the TCP/IP protocol for both your 9x and your XP boxes. Now the issue could be your work notebook and work LAN configs, do they require NetBEUI as well as TCP/IP ?!? If not then your notebook can also live without NetBEUI and get around with only TCP/IP. I think that because NetBEUI is a broadcast type protocol you could be getting into a home lan broadcast storm situation and of course this will mean tons of dropped packet requests all around

    Half-Life 2 vs. Halo 2

Since I don't own and Xbox I can't really say which I prefer and I have yet to purchase HL2
  20. Well from experience this is most likely being caused by bad/incompatible/faulty memory. Here's what you need to test to see if it is indeed a memory issue: 1) Remove all but a single stick of memory from the machine and do a clean install, i.e., reformat a test HD and install either 2K or XP and see what happens during the install process and after all SP's and driver updates are installed. 2) If this works then you need to mark that specific stick of ram, I use those nice colored round labels for this so they can be easily removed. 3) You can check the motherboard manufacturer for the latest BIOS rev and flash your firmware. This is neccessary due to the fact that many times the updates are there just to fix/correct timing and other issues with the multitude of ram modules out there Sometimes you find a name brand module will not work properly in a specific make/model of mobo. Also note that any Dual-Channel board, regardless of wether it's an Intel or AMD CPU based board, is going to be even more picky about memory timings and such Here's an example of such a memory timing problem. We have a client that uses Intel mobo's exclusively and they are using one config for general workstation use using a Celeron D, Model 320 CPU. Now we thought that DDR333/PC2700 memory should work in dual-channel mode, but not on this board. You have to reconfigure the memory for single-channel mode or replace said memory with DDR400/PC3200 for proper operation. Perhaps Intel figured you'd only use this since it pretty much costs the same as the slower ram anyway
  21. Yeah I was thinking the same thing... My opinion on Dual-Layer burners is either Sony or Aopen. We sell a lot of both brands at the company I work for If I had to go with a name brand for personal reason's then I would choose a Plextor

How do I find and remove a hidden partition?

You can use fdisk to find any non-DOS partitions and delete these or you can use Partition Magic to do the same thing. I prefer PM just because of it's GUI interface and it gives you a lot more options then fdisk does. The fdisk app will be on any Win 98/ME startup/emergency boot disk you've created

    Windows XP Drivers...i think...

Yes, this looks to be a device drivers issue. If your notebook is based on one of the more popular chipsets, then please check out the correct website and d/l the latest INF/Chipset drivers and/or USB drivers. Intel Via SiS ALi You can also check out the notebook manufacturers website for updated drivers, however they don't always have the very latest versions Since you've re-installed XP, make sure you have at least SP1 installed.
  24. Since the EDIT option expired I'll have to post a new reply, so here's what I like/dislike about the Aopen Xcube AV Edition. Pros: SFF(Small Form Factor) Design makes it ideal for a home media center placement, like any other Hi-Fi equipment. Aluminum chassis for added weight savings and better cooling, this includes the power supply also being made of an aluminum cage. 4-in-1 card reader in place of floppy disk drive. Front panel connectors including Audio, USB and Firewire. Prescott CPU ready motherboard with dual channel memory slots. Support for both SATA and PATA HD's. Comes with a separate TV/FM Radio tuner PCI card. Remote Control that basically covers all the functionality you could want. Home Theater Software app by a third party software developer, in this case Intervideo. It requires Windows 2000 Pro/XP Home or Pro to run properly. Comes with an all Copper CPU heatsink fan along with the Smart Fan control on the motherboard BIOS for quiter operation. Cool black design makes it look like other Hi-Fi equipment in your rack or media center. One PCI and One AGP slot available on the motherboard, however since the TV/FM Radio tuner card takes the PCI slot you only have an option to add a decent graphics card to the AGP slot. Cons: No room for an internal floppy drive, USB only and external, sorry about this you legacy folks out there. The Smart CPU Fan control seems to be too conservative in it's settings, with a Prescott core CPU the cube can become something akin to a space heater Only room for a single HD, so make it a very large capacity drive as you can only add external USB/Firewire drives Only room for a single Optical drive, so make it a DVD-RW to get the most out of this box.
  25. OK, this post is not exactly something I purchased in the last week but it's about as close as you come without purchasing Anyways, my employer needed somebody to test out the Aopen Xcube AV Editions, check them out HERE! So I got to take home (2)Two of these boxes over the weekend to play around with, yes that's right, two of them Well, I need to finish geeking out over these and I will post more info from work tomorrow morning into the afternoon on what I like/dislike about these SFF machines
