First of all, don't give up quite yet The issue maybe with the system itself. Does it install Windows XP 32-bit just fine without shutting down like you described ?!? If so then this is good start and seems to indicate that your hardware is working. Now then when you d/l the Silicon Image device drivers, did you d/l the RAID 64-bit drivers or the ATA 64-bit drivers ?!? This is important in that you only have the single HD and thus only have it running in ATA/IDE/Single drive mode, not RAID mode!!! Double check this and copy the files, after you extracted them from the archive onto a formatted floppy disk. Now reboot the machine with the 64-bit XP in the CD and press the F6 key when it displays the third party SCSI RAID controller line at the bottom of the screen. See what happens and let us know. I had no problems using this beta install so far

It sounds like you're trying to merge two or more partitions into one large one, if this is correct then the only tool I can think of is Partition Magic to do this. It works quite well You could try a google search for disk partitioning and see if there are any freeware apps like this.

Can you copy windows xp pro oem to distribute with a purchased oem coa
jmmijo replied to toe2003@yahoo.com's topic in Everything New Technology
Possibly, however check with either Microsoft and/or the vendor you purchase the COA's from, i.e., Marrisel/Ingram/Techdata etc... As a system builder myself, working for a company, we are obliged to sell the OEM copy of XP Home/Pro with each system we sell that the user purchases an OS with. Since each copy of has it's own CD-KEY sticker we then place this on each box after resealing the pre-install. -
Well talking to our system builder tech support rep at Paintech, it seems there maybe some kind of issue with this mobo. Hmm, since I used all the same parts on an Asus P4R800-VM motherboard and everything worked just fine, I have to conclude this model motherboard just plain sucks

SIMPLE CONNECTION BETWEEN WIN NT4.0 COMPUTER AND A WINDOWS 2000 PRO
jmmijo replied to JOHNP0950's topic in Networking
First thing, please take the CAPS lock key off as this is considered bad form as in YELLING Make sure that you have a link light on both ethernet cards, if you look at the older machine it should have a green connection or link light, at least most cards use this color. Then check new machine and verify the same thing. This is to make sure that the x-over cable is working properly. Also you may see an amber colored activity light as well, this is good too as this will let you know that there appears to be some attempts of data packets being sent between the two machines. I would check both machines for the proper protocol, you ONLY need to have TCP/IP enabled and bound to the ethernet card on both machines. If you also have something like NetBEUI and/or IPX/SPX then please remove these unwanted protocols. Now then, you're going to be in workstation/work group mode rather then members of a domain correct ?!? If you don't get any kind of logon screen that requests a domain name then assume work group mode. Now then, make sure to create a common work group name, for instance home or work or even workgroup. Both machines should be members of the same local group. Now after making sure of this, you will want to create as many shares on the old machine as you need, for instance if you want to copy data from the My Documents folder you would share this object and make sure that anybody including guest connections are allowed, this will be an option when you first create the shared object. You could just as easily create a shared folder on your Windows 2000 machine and do the same thing, in fact I prefer this method myself. I create a temp folder on my destination machine and give the shared object guest logon connections with read/write privileges. Once all of these things have been checked then I would wait for a period of time, say about 30 minutes or so. Sometimes shares don't show up right away, not sure if this is intentional on Microsoft's part or what but I've seen this occur. Please let us know what happens -
OK, here's the skinny on this one. Most P4 CPU's (both Northwood and Prescott) are found in the current 478-pin PGA(Pin Grid Array) package. However, with the recent Intel announcment of their latest 915/925 chipsets, things are going to change. The new package will now be a 775-pin LGA(Land Grid Array).... The idea of the new package for all future Prescott P4's is that the CPU will now have only gold-plated contacts instead of easily bent/broken pins. I'm thinking somewhat like the older PLCC type sockets from days of yore Intel is going to transition the P4(Prescott Core) and the Celeron-4(Prescott labotimized) to the LGA-775 package. I'm sure Intel will continue to produce the 478-pin PGA package while this transition continues however...

Sounds like the redirector also hosed/munged some registry settings. I'm not sure if this trick will work, but open IE and go into the Internet Options. Click on the Programs tab and then locate the Reset Web Settings button. I would reboot the machine after doing this and then see what happens.

I just recently purchased a Celestica Radeon X800 Pro thru work. I couldn't believe how much faster it is over my older GeForce FX 5600, the display looks much cleaner and crisper as well, and this is thru a KVM switch box Trying to get my system ready for Doom 3 and Half-Life 2, need I say more... -

Verizon + FiberOptics to Homestead = Good thing!

This is all well and good if your ILEC is Verizon(GTE) and not somebody else like SBC, Qwest et.al. -
I went and saw I, Robot yesterday with my brother and cousin, pretty good flick and the use of CGI was spectacular to say the least Yes APK, I figured out who was pulling the strings early on too, but I won't say anymore then that... I was somehow thinking that Will Smith's character was going to turn out to be a prototype android rather then the partial bionics he had instead, I think that would have put an interesting twist on this whole scenario The trailers for some upcoming flicks looked pretty good too, Especially the ones for Alien vs. Predetor and Resident Evil: Apocolypse (Mila Jovavich aka. Leelu, yummmmmmm)....

I'm glad to see Carmack and Co. re-working the single player mode so much, here's to hoping that the MODding crowd get's into D3 as much as they did with the other two It's amazing how many MOD compilations were released back then, I have quite a few of them on CD but I bet there were hundreds more released that I never saw or could find -

(See it you will know what I mean, especially if you saw the film "The Day the Earth Stood Still", one of my all-time sci-fi classics in my book)...! apk Correction here APK, the phrase is: "Gort, Klaatu, Berrada, Nikto." This is what Patricia Neal had to say to the robot after Micheal Rennie's character gets shot by our own hapless army, or where they actually partially trained weekend warriors, hmmm This phrase was also reprised in another classic, Army of Darkness with Bruce Campbell. He had to say just "Klaatu, Berrada, Nikto." but couldn't really remember this phrase and hence messed up things good when he took the Necronomacon from it's pedestal. The remake of The Time Machine was good but I'll always have a special place for the original with Rod Taylor and the lovely Yvette Mimieux http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0054387/ I do think H.G. Wells was just a bit ahead of his time

Since I'm an OLD hack from the Osborne/Kaypro/TRS-80 days, I've seen my fill of fads come and go and to me the first cracklike game was one called Firepower for the Amiga. This is the main reason I bought one, I couldn't afford a model 1000 back in 1985 so waited until the 500 came out. Now there was a machine I tells ya -

This is where the issue can effect some and not others. I guess addiction is like anything else, too much of a good thing you might say As for me I've never got into playing Evercrack, why, because it's an online only game I'd play it if there was a single player component but since there isn't it's not for me and besides you have to pay Sony a monthly fee for playing, blech........... -

However I still have Diablo 2: LOD on the brain and have really started to get into MODding this game to how I want it to be -

Very nice character there APK As for the X800 Pro, well I hear, and this maybe only fiction, is that most/many of the first released cards are actually the X800 Platinum GPU's but the cards firmware is locking out 4 of the pipelines and the other features that are different. Supposedly there is a hack for the firmware to enable these missing features -

I will be able to afford buying it without hurting other things in my financial picture or plans for it in the future... apk Sounds like good news APK, hope things work out for you in this regard then As for the new hardware requirment for Half-Life 2 and/or Doom 3 well I think I'm set for now. I bit the bullet last night and purchased a Celestica Radeon X800 Pro. This card just screams I must say. Diablo 2 never moved so fast Perhaps after some more testing, like over the weekend I'll post in the New Gadgets of the Week thread... -

So I wonder if there will be facilities for MOD making or not. This was one of the best features of the original Doom and Doom II -
Sorry APK, no need to try anything once you have NERO, Clone CD and Alcohol 120%

Have you tried connecting your sisters box into another port on the router, changing the ethernet cable connecting her machine to the router?!? Have you tried adjusting her NIC settings from AUTO Detect media speed to a manual 100Mb/Full Duplex?!? I would also check to see if her machine has any unneccessary protocol's installed such as IPX/SPX or NetBUEI. I've also experienced issues with the QOS Packet Scheduler within Windows XP. Just uncheck this option.
