Well all I have to say who cares because the only ones I can see wanting to do this are counterfieters, sorry but I don't see any point in scanning in images of banknotes, from any country for that matter

why oh why has nobody made abandoned dos games into winxp

Also, have you checked out this thread yet ;( -
ICS cannot be enabled make sure lan adapter is installed

Have you tried using the repair option on this NIC yet ?!? Also, I've only used the Home Networking Wizard to configure ICS/ICF and each time it seemed to work just fine. I'm thinking that perhaps the current NIC driver may have gotten corrupted, have you uninstalled the driver, shut down then reboot into safe mode to verify that the driver is now gone then restart into normal mode and double check again. At this point make sure you have the latest device drivers for the NIC on the local HD or a floppy disk and then shut down again. Now reinstall the NIC and have it redect, but this time direct the drivers to the location of the newest drivers. -
These should work out just fine

Mine does the same thing, I use MyIE2 which uses the basic IE core files so this is most likely the reason, something in the core files or simply a setting I've missed, hmmm ;(

Here's the thing to watch for when it comes to HyperThreading CPU's, the only 533FSB CPU that has HT is the 3.06GHz, when you look into the 800FSB CPU's you have a wider range of support here, starting at the 2.4GHz~3.2GHz and of course the 3.2GHz EE CPU Be sure you get the correct CPU for the motherboard, if moving up to an 800FSB motherboard then look at the 2.4~2.8C revision CPU's as they do have a lot of overclockability to them without the extra cost...
-
This is why I like to have a few extra boxes and parts lying around for this very purpose
-
Most 845 chipset boards will take FSB533 CPU's up to 2.8 and some will even take the 3.06 with a BIOS update and support the HT mode of this particular CPU as well. Check your motherboard manufacturers website for the latest BIOS update and what it fixes/adds support for. The memory you link to is a matched pair of PC3700/DDR366 and would be ideal for a dual channel motherboard. Something like this motherboard would work just great
-
The latest dual-channel motherboards support a much higher memory bandwidth then their single-channel counterparts. This being said it means that you have to purchase a matched pair of DDR400/PC3200 memory modules in order to use this function on dual-channel memory motherboards. Otherwise the board will function in single-channel memory mode. This means a performance hit, especially in memory hungry apps like games. As for an alternative to dual-channel boards, I recently built some workstations for a client using the new Intel 848P chipset, basically an 865 lite if you will, this chipset *only* supports single channel modes and supports FSB CPU's of 400/533/800. The speed isn't as fast as the dual-channel boards but not bad for entry level. Also these boards appear to be in the sub-$100 range as well and you should be able to use your existing stick of memory...

Glad you made it out this way too, TC As for the issue, pretty much what tomay said, if you're hurting for space then a virtual machine app like dosbox or even the new Virtual PC 2004 edition trial from Microsoft. I'm going to try it out and see what it does as far as some old dos games are concerned...
-
TC, is that you ;(
-
Well if you were serious about video editing I think you should have purchased an Amiga Video Toaster system No, I'm not crazy, just one of those old coots that still runs his Amiga's on a daily basis along with a couple of MAC clones and PC's :x

QuickTime 6.5 Stutters in Windows Pro 2000

Please let us know what the results are from your testing -
This is exactly the issue as nebulus points out, both of those Asus drives are indeed CD drives with the one being a CD-RW drive. Neither drive will read DVD discs. Most/Many graphics card manufacturers will include a DVD decoder player app with their cards, however in order to view/read DVD media you need at least a DVD reader

QuickTime 6.5 Stutters in Windows Pro 2000

Damn, I forgot, sorry about that Well the first step of course is it get the properties of My Computer so you can right mouse click on this desktop icon and then select the Properties option. I'm thinking there is an advanced or performance tab or something like this, but I maybe thinking again of XP as Microsoft liked to move things around and/or relabel them FOUND IT!!! Well I should have looked at Microsoft's extensive Knowledge Base first. Here's the link on how to change the paging file under various OS's -
Quote: lol, from where I sit, I will die from losing anything at all. Almsot a terrabyte of data on my machines, and not enough $$$ to have backup of it all. Hmm, I don't know wether to laugh or cry for you, that is way too much data to have sitting unarchived :x

Just to be silly I'd say: Do it!!! Don't Do it!!!

The only thing I would have against any software RAID 5 solution is that unless you have a high-end workstation/entry level dual-xeon server board then you could run into data partity issues. What I mean is that these dual-xeon board all require ECC-REG memory, this is good as I myself use a Promise ATA RAID 5 card, the Supertrak SX6000 which is an I2O controller card that also requires ECC. I've used the RAID Zero solution under XP Pro and it works just fine for my general purpose data, stuff I wouldn't die over losing

Quote: Hope that makes sense... Yeah I think it does to me. Basically it means that if the app and/or OS is not optimized for H/T then it's not running as effeciently on this type of CPU. Also you can possibly run into anomylous behavior like this Video Capture app/hardware. You can kind of use the same analogy with 64-bit CPU's, if the OS is not re-written to take advantage of the extra CPU features then it's not running at full speed so to speak. I guess in a way this maybe like the old P1 MMX days before games and other apps took advantage of the extra features of the CPU

Quote: Going back to a more fundamental question about RAID1, is there any protection against mirroring corrupted files in this set up? Essentially I'm trying to decide if mirroring is worth the wasted disk space over simply having backup software to regularly keep updated copies on another local drive. What do you guys think? Thanks. Unfortunately no there isn't any protection against this occuring. This is why you have RAID 5 which adds parity and a few other things to the mix for better data inegrity. This being said the best option really is a RAID 5 *and* data archiving solutiuons like TAPE

From article on front page, regarding Microsoft Virtual PC:
jmmijo posted a topic in Everything New Technology
I tried the Virtual PC app a few times when it was still Connectix It's actually best for companies/developers looking to test their apps on many different flavors of Windows for sure. This way they can actually make up virtual machines for each flavor of OS, not just Windows too. You know APK, I can see you using something like this but since you're already using VMware it's really redundent don't you think As for users like me, I've got a ton of older machines and hardware lying around so I've got a few flavors of older OS's too, like an old Dell Optiplex P200 for playing older DOS games Then an AMD K6/2 box for running DOS/Win3.xx along with an old Ensonique Soundscape card. For me it's fun just putting together some older DOS boxes or what not just to see the old parts still working, like those blasted 540MB Conner HD's -

Since I can't remember the exact tab to set the paging file on, I'm running XP at home, I'll post the info when I get to work as all the workstations use Win 2K Pro there This way you can adjust the paging file on your system, reboot and then test the anims again... -
QuickTime 6.5 Stutters in Windows Pro 2000

So I take it the two 10K drives are SCSI and can I assume at least U160/320 drives as well ?!? The 30GB startup drive is what concerns me however. When the stuttering/lag occurs do you notice if the HD busy light is really on a tear ?!? My guess that this startup drive is not really optimized for your workstation in that it's most likely too slow and that the OS is not optimized to the paging file. Here's what you should do to test this out. First resize the the paging file if it's on the 30GB drive to something small, I think the minimum size is 2MB! Set it for this and then create another paging file on your much faster SCSI drives for say something like 512MB for both the min/max size. Basically you have enough ram to not worry about paging but this doesn't stop Windows from using it anyway Then I would d/l and run X-Setup which has a lot of nice optimization features for the OS and various other things too The one you want to use most is the one that will tell the OS, in this case Win 2K Pro, that you want to force using all available RAM before paging! Windows by default goes the other way around! If this fails then I would like to know what the specs were on the other PC or PC's that you've run these anims on successfully?!? I figured the MAC would be ok as it's probably optimized for this kind of playback already. But you mentioned it worked on another PC so if we can compare the specs to yours we maybe able to figure out the bottleneck in your system config -
Then I would check the surface for any defects like deep scratches and/or cracks. Perhaps something has happened to the protective surface Also, do you have any other drive/computer that you can try this CD on ?!?
-
Could be an issue with the autorun but does any other disc behave this way ?!? Can you play an audio CD normally or some other data or game/app cd normally ?!?
