w2k installation trouble (ati radeon, amd xp1500)
jmmijo replied to cfig's topic in Everything New Technology
You say you updated device drivers however did you make sure to update the VIA 4in1 driver pack ?!? The KT3 series uses the VIA chipset so you'll want to make sure this is installed before installing the video drivers. Try this and see what happens. -
Well I can tell you my 5.1's do work well in analog mode, it's the older Cambridge DTT2200 model. Works well for me. Of course Cambridge now has the newer Inspire line and the Megaworks line of speakers, I think they now have a 7.1 system, perhaps moving into the 8.1 arena soon too
-
Hmm, I just did a fresh XP Pro install and it worked for me Did you recently install any kind of app ?!? Something you may have done just before this started occuring ?!?

The search function, by default, ignores system files/folders and thus hidden files and folders. You need to click on the Advanced Search button, should be on the left hand pane to tick the box to allow you to search these as well. Addendum here: Click on Search to open the window up, I like to maximize it so I can view all the options. Click on the All Files and Folders search type. Now look for the More Advanced Options and on that line is a double carret button, click on this to have the options drop down. Now look for the check box to tick as well as other options to choose from

I agree with sapiens on this one, you have to ask your wife how much downtime is acceptable, if any If a 24/7 uptime is required then you'll need to go to a RAID 5 config, preferably with a hotspare and/or hot swap cages.

Can you not adjust the Trusted Sites option for the local Intranet as well ?!? I think you enter a local machines IP so this will be a trusted site, even if it's not a web server but just another local workstation.

I'm not having this issue with D2:LOD and the latest beta patch, v1.10s. I seem to recall hearing/reading about this issue with D2 but can't recall where I'd seen the issue. Check this site, it has some great forums for D2. http://www.diabloii.net/ Also check out the http://www.battle.net/forums/board.aspx?ForumName=d2-general] forums on battle.net.

This usually indicates a driver and/or device is not responding to the shutdown/restart request. Did this just start happening within a short time or has it always beend doing this ?!? It could be a device that has been recently added and/or it's device drivers. Perhaps review the current driver revs and see how they compare to the manufacturers versions. Try up[censored] any older drivers etc... Another thing to do periodically with Win 9x is to run a thorough scandisk on the entire hard drive for any errors that could also cause this kind of thing.

Well since you're using the digital jack I can't help, I only use the analog outputs in my Audigy cards
-
I've only used Norton Speedisk as it comes with Systemworks. I've also used the native defrag too which is a lite/oem version of Diskkeeper
-
Hmm, I didn't have any issues installing MM6~9 at all. Do you have another drive in this machine or can get another drive to read from?
-
I going to have to assume that you're plugging these speakers into an amp as well, this shouldn't be a problem at all. I've done this in the past but don't currently have my PC connected to anything but powered speakers at the moment.

Here's something else that could help free up some resources here: 1) If you don't use a serial mouse then disable both the COM1 and the COM2 ports in the system BIOS. 2) If you don't use a parallel printer, then you can also disable the LPT1 port in the system BIOS. This will essentially free up 3 IRQ's for and base addresses for you to use. Hopefully XP then can reassign to the proper, non-shared IRQ's and everything will work. You have d/l the latest device drivers for the onboard modem I presume ?!?

This maybe true, but I know NT4 pretty well, at least I got to cut my teeth on it learning the whole PDC/BDC thing and how that works along with a client/server environment

Getting this dialog box asking to scan and clean my PC
jmmijo replied to Phalanx-Imawano's topic in Security
This is most likely an ActiveX control pop-up from a web site you've visited. Could also be a java script but most likely the former. I'd try running something like Adaware for any spybots as well, this is what I use. Could just be a specific web site you visit, if you turn off active scripting and then see if this goes away, then you know for sure. -
I still have a vast vinyl collection, perhaps one of these days I'll get around to recording them onto a digital format

I tend to agree that with the desktop market, you have to have software apps that take advantage of the 64-bit pathways to make it happen. The idea however of the Athlon64 is great in that it's backwards compatible with 32-bit apps and OS's, so you can't lose by upgrading and then waiting for the relase of said 64-bit apps I'd jump at this once some of my favorite games take advantage of this but I don't see this happening until an OS takes adavantage of the 64-bit CPU. Of course SUN Ultra Sparcs have been using 64-bit CPU's for awhile now however I can't run Diablo 2 on Solaris no can I

Yes I found out that a matched pair of Elixer's wouldn't work in my new A7N8X Deluxe, I found that a matched pair of Apacer's worked just fine however

Well, here's what I do: 1) I don't use the 2K/XP time service at all, I simply disable the service after stopping them. 2) I install a client side time app, this can be set to appear only in the system tray or even stay completely hidden. The app I use is free and no spyware attached, it's called Abouttime and can be found on www.tucows.com The problem however is that you need something that will work over what port ?!? Also how is anyone seeing the web if you block port 80 ;( I re-read your post and figured out that your company doesn't allow any net access, except I assuming the PDC ?!? If so then I did a google search of a product that may help you out here, it's called NeoClock. http://www.google.com/search?num=100&...rver+service%22 http://www.neol.fr/uk/neoclock/nwin_f.htm The only other solution I can think of for you is to use something like Abouttime on the PDC so this is as accurate as possible and then setting up some kind of time server service that will work on the PDC, perhaps that neoclock will do this as well, then you don't have to use Abouttime. But it does look like you may need to spend some money however

My guess is that NT4 is not supported, third party manufacturers are the best possible place to get working drivers for OS's like NT4 but I think there maybe a limitation to the OS itself, perhaps the Hot-Swap nature of firewire and usb could be the reason why you don't see devices like these for NT4, dunno
-
Well the Avance Logic ALC650 Audio CODEC is both a software and hardware driven device. It's not bad for what it does but I personally like the Audigy/Audigy 2 cards better, especially when connected to a 5.1 speaker system
-
You can ;( Hmm, perhaps it's more the person playing the game then anything else, and of course the particular game and/or benchmark you're running Perhaps the best real world test is to actually play a round of multi-player or something that can simulate multi-player in a single-player environment. I know that Diablo 2: LOD with many different mod's can actually slow down by quite a bit, this is due to the poor DirectX optimizations in the game and the fact that many mod's increase the amound of monsters and animations on the screen at once so this is most likely the issue, but it's a good test to see if your machine has any noticable lags and/or slow downs in the game.

I too have a 5.1 sound system using the older Crambridge Soundworks DTT2200, they are actually pretty good considering they were only about $130 at the time of purchase. However to be fair, most home amps, receivers can sound so much better, how about them old tube amps from Macintosh, no not Apple Computer but an audiophile company Again however if you have the means to purchase an external 5.1/6.1/7.1 or even the new 8.1 amps/receivers and have the funds to purchase appropriate drivers for them, then you can have the best possible sound Even a set of Klipsch 5.1's wouldn't sound as good but remember that most so-called multi-media speakers out there have a lot less power, more noise in the amp and are not matched to your listening environment

Here's the latest bios revs for both the v2.xx boards and the pre-v2.xx boards http://www.asus.com/support/download/item.aspx?ModelName=A7N8X%20Deluxe

By the v1.04 do you mean the firmware or the engineering rev of the mobo ;(
