    lots of beeps!

I think it was mentioned that there were 15 beeps which does indicate a memory issue but it could be a compatiblity problem with the mobo and the ram but also something else wrong with the mobo itself. This is why I like to remove everything and see if I get a standard graphics card not found beep code or memory missing beep code. This tells me that the mobo and the CPU seem to be talking to each other and I have to try another piece of hardware and go from there. I usually then install the graphics card and see if the error code now just gives me a memory missing beep code, which is what it should. This then says that the mobo, cpu and graphics card is talking to each other. Now I install a single stick of ram and see what happens. If it get that silly 15 beeps again I'll try a different stick of memory until I find one that works. Possible that the BIOS settings are incorrrect for the memory timings so I'd also recommend removing the power cable, then remove the cmos battery then move the clear cmos jumper to clear and wait about 5 minutes. Then reset the clear cmos jumper to normal settings and then instlall the battery and then the power and try again. This will load a factory default setting for everything and you maybe able to see something work properly as well Sorry for the length of this post, I just got on a roll

    lots of beeps!

You can also see if you get a different POST beep error code if you remove *all* sticks of ram and the graphics card, leave only the mobo, the cpu and power connected. Also disconnect the power to any other drives, i.e., the HD, CD, Floppy etc. and disconnect their data cables too Now see if you get the error code for missing/no ram detected which should be different then the 15 beeps you're getting now.

    WinDVD HELP!!!!!

The 3D Sound option in the Volume Control Panel is most likely the culprit. This happens to almost all on-board sound vs. a separate sound card. You may also have to select Advanced Options/Controls when in the Volume Control Panel, under the File menu I think
  4. I agree but in this case I've only come across one other user that actually used this feature. I'm not trying to make light of the situation but I have to say this is most likely a very little used feature of Windows.
  5. Most likely this is not a big issue as probably only a few users out there, like you for instance

    major prob with win95 machine !! - - Please help me !!

Yes you can still find some older AT power supplies out there. Have you checked out any local schools or school districts that maybe getting rid of some older machines?!? Also check out the Goodwill stores for these kinds of older parts. Another option would be to check out Fry's Electronics, being in So Cal you should have at least one in your area Another possible solution is to check you mobo out for a dual power connection. Some of them had both the standard AT and the then newer ATX connectors.
  7. @duhmez, I bet this is the issue http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;319368
  8. Sometimes you have to creat a floppy driver disk from the supplied CD-ROM as not every manufacturer does this for you

    CD clone alternative?

You mean CloneCD correct ?!? I think another one that's been mentioned arouns is called Alcohol 120% or something like this. Lemme check out downloads.com for more info on this one Yep, that's the name alright http://download.com.com/3000-2646-10205910.html?tag=lst-0-21 http://download.com.com/3150-2646-0.html?tag=stbc.gp

    VGA to TV

Yes I recommend the same thing, most of these cards are very cheap now but of course many of the top of the line cards also come with the S-Video output connector as well

I think it's still scheduled for the end of 2003

    memory dumps.

Yes you can safely delete the .dmp file. It's there for debugging purposes and there are some tools that will allow you to access the .dmp file for further review. If you wish you could just use the small memory dump instead of the standard whole memory size dumpe, i.e., if you have 1GB of RAM then it will dump a 1GB size .dmp file to the local HD. To get to this option, get the properties for your computer, then look for the Advanced tab and there you should have a Startup and Recovery button. Click this and select small memory dump, 64k instead of complete memory dump. I'm hoping this is the same for Win 2K, it's been a while since I used it and I'm giving you the directions for XP Pro instead
  13. Hmm, I dislike that activation feature but unfortunatly what can you do you really need an anti-virus app running now a days. As for the spy/adware scanning, that's a nice feature but I currently use AdAware for this. I wonder if it will be as good or not.

Looking for some opinions on Video Cards

I picked up an A-bit Siluro FX5600 as an interim card until both Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 gets released It's a decent card with 256MB of ram onboard and I paid less then $200 for it The model number is FX5600 DT 256MB. http://www.abit-usa.com/products/graphics/products.php?categories=2&model=45
  15. Yes I'm suspecting a compatibility issue with the DMA mode as well. Most likely Plextor would rather you purchase a new drive from them instead

    Monitor help, please

Slight fluctiations as you call them will depend upon the specs of said mobo and power supply. This means that there is an acceptable range for these voltages depending upon what the manufacturer of each item specifies. What you listed seems to be within specs but you need to keep monitoring the voltages for drastic fluctuations however
  17. Hmm, most new boards come with multiple options now, you select the AUTO option and then change it according to what is listed in the menu, perhaps this model doesn't have this kind of selection Another possible issue is that this drive is incompatible with the nForce 2 chipset in anything other then PIO mode.

Custom install CD with extra drivers?

Actually there is a way, but you have to have access to the OEM Pre-Install kits for XP. Since I'm a system builder I do but I can only use them at the shop I've done this along with slip-streaming the service packs for both Win 2K and XP. You can create an OEM folder for extra drivers and use the F5 key to load these during the initial setup. I'm not sure you can do this same kind of thing with either the retail or the upgrade versions but perhaps you can.

    Monitor help, please

OK, well then it's actually the voltage regulator circuits on the mobo, most likely some component(s) is gone belly up now. It costs more to repair a mobo then to purchase a new one, but on the off chance it's actually the power supply for the machine, try swapping this out first and recheck the voltages again

    Monitor help, please

Most likely the power supply for the monitor and/or the high-voltage circuitry is going out. I have a similar problem with the monitor I use here at work, however all I do is power off the monitor and back on again to resume and it's like your's, very sporadic when it does this
  21. You did verify that you set the mobo BIOS settings to either PIO4 or UDMA2 correct ?!? Sometimes you have to force it vs. using the AUTO settings.

    ...Nevermind

I was thinking for just you own post that you created, say a time limit of 30 mins or so for deletion. Why clutter up the forum if you didn't really want to post what ever it was you now want to delete

    Dual DDR333 vs Dual DDR400 with P4

@club_ice, I have a suggestion for the ram, get either the Kingston HyperX or the Corsair TwinX brands. These are matched pairs, tested at the factory for compatibility and you can get either a 512MB or a 1GB kit from either manufacturer
  24. jmmijo

    ...Nevermind

I hadn't realized this. Could it be due to the board software and/or setting perhaps ;(

    Services in Win2k

This sounds more like a corrupted registry then a sevices issue, the problems are most likely symptomatic of this kind of corruption
