    Force a network connection

I have a tricky question to ask you people. I'm working as a computer tech in a College. All the computer labs has Windows 98 right now. We are expecting to upgrade to XP for the next school session. The good think with Win98 and Poledit was that we could easily force a network connection to gain access to windows and programs. We are using Novell as our Primary Network, so when the Novell login appear, if a student doesn't fill the login screen, he's stuck right there. Is someone knows a way to disable the "workstation only" box or something that would denied access to XP if there's no network connection. Thanx!

Thanx CUViper! You put me on the right track! I'm doing some research to see if Netware offers something similar.

XP and ME wont connect HELP PLEASE!!!

To be more specific about the resolution that helped me the most is this one below: -------------------------------------------------------------------- 6.) HERE ARE SOME THINGS THAT HELP CONNECTIVITY BETWEEN WIN2k/XP & Win9x/ME boxes: a.) Speed up access to Win98 shares in Win2k When accessing Windows 98 shares there is usually a delay, which is caused by Win2k remotely checking for scheduled tasks on the Windows 98 machine. To disable this checking go to this registry key : [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software \Microsoft \Windows \CurrentVersion \Explorer \RemoteComputer \NameSpace] There you will find this sub-key : {D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF} By deleting this sub-key the checking will be disabled. One should make a backup of the registry key before deleting it incase one need to restore it. -------------------------------------------------------------------- The rest of the post is worth a look too...
