I had the same problem myself. As it turned out the problem was in my NVidia drivers, the certified ones (30.something if I recall correctly). After that I installed the Detonator 40 drivers and there haven't been any random reboots since.

Yeah, I really resent Eidos for letting Looking Glass die. I can kiss System Shock 3 goodbye As for EA: I've had a couple of problems of my own with KKND waaay back. I had an ATI mach64 video card which was really screwy with VESA and even though I requested, EA didn't give me any support whatsoever. In the end even the store clerk gave up and let me trade KKND for Red Alert published by Virgin Entertainment (ironic enough, the C&C franchise is now the property of EA :x )

Great job, dosfreak!

Don't know why, but I suddenly got interested in snowboarding games :x I've already tried Supreme Snowboarding which works great out of the box. Then there's XGames Pro Boarder.... I recall playing the demo two years ago (yeah, it's old. SO?! ) and I really enjoyed it then. I downloaded it again but now it keeps buggin' me that it does not work with Windows NT at the beginning of the installation! Even With ACT 2.6! Any ideas?

Hi. My father has a laptop with a 1600 MHz processor (can't tell whether it's AMD or Intel), 256 of RAM, an integrated sound card and a S3 superSavage video card. He is running Windows XP Home edition. He is going on a business trip soon, so he has given me the task to select and buy an adventure game that will keep him entertained. When he's not busy, that is. I have three games in mind: Grim Fandago The Escape from Monkey Island The Longest Journey I would like to know: a) Which one you recommend and... If any of you had any problems with any of these games (three anys in one sentence. Sick. :x ) Thanks in advance!

Hey, Admiral LSD, I really appreciate your help, but quite frankly: Who cares about the processor? It works, that's all that matters Besides, isn't this a bit off topic? (Sorry if any of this offends)
-
Admiral LSD: Nope, it doesn't even say how many MHz it has. I found that out when I was browsing through the device manager.

Hi. I've tried to get NFS: High Stakes to work under Windows 2000, but after in install and patch it something of the following happens: a) This program has caused.....(etc, etc)....a error log is being created Need for Speed files are corrupted, please re-install c) A WEIRD message about something ending with a comma(?) and I need to restart. I restarted the computer but no dice. I did exactly as it said in the Compatibility->Games->Need for Speeed: High Stakes (Windows 2000) section. I'm stumped. Any ideas?

Damn. And it's my favourite racing game too (I detest Porsche Unleashed). Oh, well. Maybe NFS3 will work. By the way, I downloaded ACT 2.6 and I'm not really sure how to use it. For example, I see there is a fix for Need for Speed II Special edition, but I'm not sure what to do. When I click Run a window pops up, and in the "Program:" line is a file called _INS0432._MP, but I don't see it anywhere in my NFS2SE folder. Can anyone help? Tnx

OK. It's pretty obvious that the OSs of today are Windows XP and 2000 (or are they? You tell me). Which one would/do you choose? Xtra Power or NT's successor? Or do you have your eyes on another OS? And here's another question: Do you think Linux has a gaming future (with M$ dominating the market and all)? I'll be watching closely

Come to think of it, although i really like movies, I don't have a favourite one. The closest is maybe Final Fantasy the Movie, me being a Final Fantasy fan and all

Hi! I have MotS on my disk, but I don't think it's working properly. My first problem was, when I tried to run MotS via the Launcher. Immediately it told me I need DirectX5, although the original Jedi Knight works just fine with DX 8.1 I have installed. I bypassed the problem by running MotS directly with JKM.exe. The game ran, but whenever it loads a level something of the following happens: 1. "Error: Couldn't load level" (There isn't a single scratch or smudge on the CD) 2. I wind up back in Windows. Pissed off, of course. Ideas? Suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Oh, you use XP... I should've noticed your sig.

ACT is short for Application Compatibility Toolkit. If you're a gamer using Win2k, which I assume you are , then get it here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/sample.asp?url=/msdn-files/027/001/209/msdncompositedoc.xml A rather large link isn't it? Hope this helps

Well, I never really got heavily into configuring and using VMware. All I did was enable the sound and play a few DOS games on it. Oh yeah, and Blood Omen So actually this wasn't exactly a hardcore VMware experience. I think most people call it "fiddling" As for my computer specs (that Dakhath requested): AMD Duron 1200 256 DDR RAM Elite K7S5A Mobo GeForce 2 MX400 Hercules Muse XL I don't think anyone cares about anything else, like LAN cards The Version of VMware that I have is 3.1.1 build-1790
-
VMware rocks. Plain and simple. One thing that bothers me though: I don't know if this happens just to me or everyone, but Windows games like for example Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain run reeaaally slow. DOS games run fine. SSF2T forever!

I did like you said and it's working perfectly now! Thanks! I am once again able to enjoy the dated, but still fun Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith
-
Sorry. Forgot to tell you that I found no patches whatsoever for MotS.

Thanks for the reply! I've downloaded ACT 1.5 and ran JKM.exe with it and the levels loaded fine, but only in software rendering mode. When I switch to Direct3D it says: "Video card may not have enough memory for this mode - try a lower setting. Restoring previous settings." I find this a bit silly, because I have a 64 MB GeForce2 MX400 video card. If it's not asking too much, could you tell me how to run the game in Direct3D? Thanks in advance!

Win98 SE was great for me, although it's dated now, so I use Win2k. But releasing WinME was a crime! I've never encountered Windows that crashed so often. It's junk! So, I really can't say whether Win9x suck or not. Except for ME, they're OK, I guess.

I don't get it. Why did they release act 2.5 for SP3, when SP3 isn't even out yet?
