what video card? drivers?

is the external a usb drive? dont think u can boot from that. we should figure out why u cant access the internal drive. u should be able to boot from the internal drive. if u fix that the rest is easy.

that sucks here is an alternate to thermal grease if any peeps have the gumption. when u lap both hs and processor very very flat they will wring together. hold the 2 together and twist 90 deg or so and the hs will pickup the processor (by creating a vacuum) when this works then u dont need thermal grease. safeguard your machine until u get good at this. also it's very hard to do with the processors that have clips instead of 4 screws (like the secc type) because it's very easy to break the seal. i ran a p3 700 @ 800 for 2 years that way temps stayed around 110f at load (had a giant hs/fan on it though) just a fun fact

in xp u can learn the firewall stuff it's long and painfull but works quite well ipsec policies can be reached from the gpedit.msc the are tons of things u can do from there. after creating or altering apolicy dont forget to "assign" it or nothing will happen -
not to mention the fact that a protracted war between amd and intel would only help their bottom line

it works fine if u are using xp u have to d/l symevent update file or nothing will work. it's not easy to find on the symantec website (they want u to buy new stuff for xp) but it's there. i have it if u cant find it.

Saving Windows settings for a new install of 2k.
Jerry Atrik replied to videobruce's topic in Software
this is the way i do it but im sure there is an easier way which im sure our other fine forum contributers will point out. in regedit open the key u want to keep and right click on it export it to a file. i always keep my explorer root and explorer advanced settings the file will be a .reg right click and EDIT... dont doubleclick or merge then remove the settings u dont want on the new system then after u install the new system doubleclick the saved file and it will transfer all the settings. please be careful and practice if u arent very familier with these things because i am not aware of any way to undo a registry merge other than to restore a backup... so make backups -
Saving Windows settings for a new install of 2k.
Jerry Atrik replied to videobruce's topic in Software
not advisable but u can take some of the settings (registry keys) and make a merge file so u can add your settings for that to work u must have the same user name thats what i do 2nd question hkey_local_machine hkey_current _user -
