beware of the combination of diskeeper 8.x adaptec u160 scsi and nav 7.x corp messed up things pretty good for me

thats a little odd because i almost never get a message that i should defrag. i have a small swapfile and a 4.5gig system partition maybe once a month does it get fragged enough to recommend defragging. hint: when u install windows then increase your swapfile size... it usually becomes fragged perm. the swapfile will also frag if it's not set to a static size. that coupled with a heavy system drive causes quick fragmentation

that particular netcard defaults to 1/2 duplex i set mine to full and have had no problems. i also havent seen any significant change in performance

absolutely so far im stumped (course im sposed to be working right now) there were a couple of posts at this site telling of slow oe

i removed messenger from the windows components and set use my current instant messaging service in the new window sp1 has to comply with the feds viola' no more messenger when i boot then i open oe and BAM!! there it is. if i disable access thru group policy then i get the delay but no messenger. seems that outlook express opens messenger even if it's uninstalled and the only way to get rid of it is to deny access thru gpedit, but the service still trys to connect which is the cause of the "dcom" error. i really like ms but man that goes a little overboard.

check this out. i will have to say this is a dirty trick from ms if i allow messenger in the group policy then oe opens instantly. and messenger also opens, even though i removed it from windows components if i disable access to messenger then i get the dcom error in the sys events and oe opens really slow this is a new thing in sp1 im scanning the registry

i just astarted to get that dcom error at home. it only happens when i open outlook express. seems that msmessenger is also trying to open but since i never set it up (i removed it actually) the thing times out now my outlook express takes a long time to open this only happened since xp sp1

that getup should work straight out of the box with no mods or setting changes the jumpers on the hd that say primary master/primary slave, secondary master yada yada. shoulda been set to primary master at the factory. make sure it is and it's plugged into ide1 make sure none of the other devices are set to primary master.

yea i got lop'ed awhile ago... what a pain to remove if there ever was a candidate for a ddos... (did i say that out loud)
