Reset all files permission to Windows default, possible?
Jerry Atrik replied to htsource's topic in Software
this is one way in explorer... tools/folder options/view turn off simple file sharing that will let u set things the way u want them -
display properties/desktop/customize desktop
-
u can uninstall filesharing under network connections
-
they are basically the same program. wordperfect is easier to use because it doesnt have all the fancy schmancy gizmos like word. but im not a secretary. lol most companies wont accept docs from wordperfect.
-
do u use icq? icq is on the aol network those 2 aol addresses are normal although u only really need 1 the other one is for ads 8)
-
wordperfect is a legacy from back in the ibm "pc" era remember the one with no hard drives and 1 or 2 5in floppies and dos 1.0?

i had a goofy little prob with my leadtek 4200 where the det drivers only saw it as a 4400 and wouldnt start. no crashes though the det drivers would only instal with a clean version of xp. maybe try d/l the msi drivers?

Quote: i had a lot of networking issues with zone alarm at work and at home. so i got rid of it altogether. it has an option where you could add trusted IP add. to access your computer. but i find it not working properly all the time. ;( i think it is a problem with the program itself. i could never get it to work when it came to networking part! ;( I decided to get rid of it when a hacker hacked into it and kept putting viruses on our main computer at work. ;( ZA couldn't stop the guy. he could change its settings. i installed a router with firewall built into it and i never saw that guy again. thats what i was saying before... zonealarm can be hacked i have yet to hack a norton system (ethical hacking of company network)

Does frequent ram replacing damage the ram (or the slot)
Jerry Atrik replied to Tomay's topic in Hardware
memory itself is fairly bulletproof, but there is always a chance it will get sparked might also be the mobo. every time u stick the ram it u bend the mobo a little. mobos are vulnerable to static and bending. -
omg that musta taken some time to do

yep yep reinstalling the os to some people is like performing a voodoo ceremony. installing xp is about as automatic as it gets. i make the peeps who want a new os install it themselves so they aint scared of it anymore. heck... i try to blow my system up with programs and drivers. only takes a little while to reinstal the whole thing if i need to. btw... the new diskeeper blew up my nav corp 7.6.

Norton Internet Security 2003 and Linksys Router
Jerry Atrik replied to sapiens74's topic in Software
poo im at work now. ill have to check at home to be certain but they are in the 1000-1080 range if i remember correctly nis also takes control of all loopback connections and runs them back thru the proxy. try unblocking the all the router ports and let nis do all the work? or temp unblock the router and open the nis status page. it'll tell u what ports nis is using -

if those punks woulda just done the right thing then everyone would be happy. but now they dont have their money or the ram. (karma is self cleaning) -
yea norton personal firewall wouldnt be the way to go it works but there are probs like u prolly have to manually start the service occasional bsod (rare) and sometimes the firewall goes haywire and blocks EVERYTHING i mean everything norton makes other firewalls that would prolly work.
