i dont care if they see my code, even if it is bluelisted, because im a nobody. i use cracked software.. if i like it i buy it. if i dont i delete it. someone should start a poll to see how many peeps are using illegal copies of xp. 8) (in this case though i really think ms is charging too much for an os but i like it and bought one anyway)

now i get to start a help thread. my neighbors got a unknown via mobo and a p3 i loaded xp last night and everything runs perfect (though slow) they have a hp usb photoprinter that installs and everything but when u try to print more than a line the print fails and the printer disconnects. so if all the docs are 1 line long then he can use the printer it looks like a buffer over run. but i cant tell for sure and there is no problems as far as xp says it's an old mobo because it still has 2 isa slots but it does have a 2x agp any idears?

i used the updated ones from the webpage it was bad usb ports on the mobo i put in a pci usb ports and everything works perfect
-
i tried installing the raw windows drivers but they dont have any for this printer (very new)

no i have one of the workstation boards http://www.supermicro.com/product/motherboards/860/P4DC6+.htm but go to the rest of the products and u will see that the boards with ddr mem are pretty much server only -
how often does this happen?
-
i have not solved it honestly i havent been looking because it's not too annoying yet
-
ahh there is a way hide inactive icons, thats how i get rid of mine

rambus shot themselves in the foot by being too greedy. but it's still a good technology -
but seriously usb storage devices have always shown up with that little icon it's so the write-behind cache will flush (kinda like the nt4 prob with manually ejecting a zip drive and losing data)

remove the usb items sorry i couldnt resist... it's friday

the only sucky thing i found with the xeons is that the mobos that use ddr are all server only boards... with graphics and no agp port supermicro, tyan and iwil make workstation type boards but they all use rambus ram i wrestled with that delema for awhile and said "screw it" and got the supermicro (about 570usd) u can get a good deal on a mobo/processor combo i got mine at http://www.micropro.com/parts.htm 1 year warranty on everything and the mobo came with the cpu, hs/fan and memory already installed the cpus, mem, mobo and ps were 1470 ps the ps MUST be a special for the p4xeons and there are only a few cases that fit those types of mobos. (server cases like antec will not work) -

yea the hs/fan mounts up like normal... sort of but remember the xeons are 600 pin chips they arent the same overall size so a regular hs/fan wont match the clips. yes i have rambus pc800 (512 also) all in all with hyperthreading turned on, most software screams some of the crappier software (surfcam and mastercam) actually generate slower. i am very happy with this setup. -

Quote: Until Intel reduce their crazy prices I'm not going to even bother giving their chips a second glance. ummm the amd mp processor (2200) is going for about 221 (oem) the 2.2gig xeon is going for about 257 (oem) i will gladly pay 30 bux a chip for an intel. M4Carbine: yea only intel and serverworks my board (supermicro p4dc6+) has a forced clock function that will let me oc but the chips currently run about 30deg f over oat, and i cant find any supercoolers for the xeons. besides these things FLY! so im not worried about oc'ing -

my 2.2's were roughly 300usd each several months ago they arent really any more expensive than the p4's the expensive part is the boards to run em and the special power supply u need. -
i personally havent owned a ide drive for a long long time. so i only know about the ibm scsi's ibm had a batch of drives (10k ultra2's) that had failure probs after about 10000 hours. at the time i was running 11 of that batch and 2 failed at 8 and 9k hours. it was a hard failure that destroyed the inside (it was a mess im tellin ya) since then i have 25 total ibm drives, (ultra2's, 160's, 10k and 15k) that have anywhere from 1000 25000 hours with 0 probs. so as far as ibm scsi goes i will continue to buy em because the 2 failures out of the 70-80 drives isnt too bad. ps: the IT group did have a mess of wd ide drives that failed but i wasnt directly involved.

why not have both -
not sure who was first. the x15 came out sometime mid last year in the 4meg buffer flavor. i also think it was a touch slower at 3.7ms than it is now. ibm is more expensive but i got this at a really sweet price (125usd) so i couldnt pass that up
-
ibm also makes a 15k drive

i have a legit copy and it does the same thing to me occasionally but only here at work. we got a real crappy network so i wonder if it has sunthin to do with a net timeout. (which would be a very real possibility around here)
