Ultimate Slipstream Guide (almost)
Jerry Atrik replied to DosFreak's topic in Everything New Technology
i d/l'ed sp1 from the premier site in the readme it says: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This product includes Windows XP integrated with the SP1 files. The SP1 files that are part of this integrated service pack are a collection of updates for Windows XP. So, if you use this CD to install Windows XP, you are also automatically installing SP1. now my question is... what now? lol j/k at what point in your slipstream guide do i jump to. or which steps do i need to take. -
Quote: Sorry, but must say im not from America so im not familiar with all your slang terms ;( Anwyay if anyone has any queries about CLoneCD please dont hesitate to ask.... true true we got tons of slang. it's fun to trade on these boards.

lol he said it was THE sh** meaning it is very good i have also heard it was very good, but i still use nero
-
yes those are loopbacks
-
naw dont call ms reinstall xp fresh... including reformatting the drive (ntfs) what norton probs are u having there are some issues with xp and nav corp 7.x but that is easily fixable
-
i didnt find it in the symantec security response may be sorta a spyware what in/out ports is it looking for could just be a loopback
-
Which is better? Sygate Firewall or Norton Internet Security
Jerry Atrik replied to pr-man's topic in Security
i really like norton but i havent figured out a way to backup firewall rules. default rules are very very nice but special rules and blocking popup script from specific websites have to be redone when i reinstall the os the coolest thing about it is that default setup is very safe and it'll block everything... including program loopbacks it's the easiest way to figure out what progs are accessing the net. sniff out normal progs like wmp when it sends things out without u even knowing about it. -

basically gl apps wont work on 2 monitors the nvidia site says the the current ogl version does not allow acceleration on more than one device. not sure if that applies to either of us but it would answer my problem -

i have solidworks here and at home. both on xp, 1 matrox and 1 gforce4 i havent run into that problem yet. i only use solidworks when i absolutely have to there is one guy here that runs gforce4 dual monitor... it will only display solidworks on 1 monitor. we tried all kinds of different drivers but i dont think it's a true dualhead card. matrox is ok for still life and 2d but i never use that stuff. it is cheap though it's very slow and when there are a lot of details solidworks does a bunch of blinking when picking entities. pro/e works a little better because it's better program but if u try and turn the detail up it gets monsterously slow. the geforce cards work pretty nice on solidworks compaired to the very highend cards but i would call it only acceptable for large pro/e files with max detail. of course this is all subjective as i have been blessed with working with some pretty darn decent equipment like sgi r10k's, intergraphs with wildcat cards, and regular multi xeons with e&s graphics. -

i bought a 15k ibm scsi drive and reinstalled xp i found out sunthin... installing xp with 2 xeons then activating the hyperthread works and is ok. but it works so much better to install after hyperthreading. -
i havent not had scsi for a long time just for that reason during a disk defrag cpu is 0-2% i was thinking about setting up a raid on my system but i havent decided yet.
-
i burn a backup cd every week just the important stuff... financials, documents, email u know junk like that. i use nero and a multisession so it finds all the backup dir and adds new files or updates files that have changed. it's a scsi cdrom so i can still play games and stuff.

i use a program called refresh lock works very well on my nvidia and it only runs when i want it to. doesnt require a reboot or anything.

yep i know what your talking about i get 3.3mb at 4am and 2.7mb at 7pm i hate when that happens
