    Studio AV/DV Video Capture question

a 640x480 capture of analog video is typically fine. thats more than a normal tape has and more than a normal tv will show. when u capture or output at a larger res it's adding lines anyway, so u either add lines during capture or during coding for a analog tape. for this card i dont think it makes a difference either way. i would like to experiment with the higher res's but i dont have an edtv or hdtv to play with. *trivia note: the new divx codec will allow progressive compression (for edtv) and a few of the newest dvd players are reading divx.

Just picked up new Studio AV/DV card. Need some advice

if it's old tape then i capture at dv quality (most uncompressed) and encode to svcd (no dvd burner yet) if it needs cleaning up then i use virtual dub, here is a link with good cleaning tips http://nickyguides.digital-digest.com/vdub-filters2.htm if u want to do any editing or fixing i suggest dv capture edit> studio 8 works perfectly on xp pro

Need help choosing a good video capture card.

i would suggest the pinnacle studio series studio av/dv will capture digital and analog and includes the studio software for about 130-150 (i have this one) it outputs vcd, svcd and dv formats, and will do the burning. (it will also output most any format that u have a codec installed for) it has an mpeg processor on the card to speed the coding along. ps beware of the usb capture ones.

AMD To be a threat to Intel?

sure amd will be a threat to intel as they always have been a threat to 100% cpu market share is all. intel will release the 64bit chip as soon as they are done milking the 32bit market, and not a second before.

Air Duct on Side of case = 7-12C cooler CPU temps... WOW!

i'll give u a little hint. turn that thing into a venturi and the incoming air temp can drop almost to freezing (or about 40 degrees below oat). no one makes em so i make my own sometimes

    CPU Temperature Advice

the cool thing is that if the temp is really too high the intel will shut itself down. no worries (my xeons run at 55-60 when they are loaded.)

    Buggy HPLaserJet 2300 install

arent the new drivers available on the web? the dot4.lpt is part of their driver set. not sure if they had u install this way but for hp usb printers u dont plug anything in until the drivers are loaded. then plug it in and "auto" install when it finds new hardware

HyperThreading w/ PAT vs dual xeon (ASUS)

i've had ht xeons since the day they came out (about feb 2001). they arent much faster than a normal processor doing one thing but they are monsters of multitasking. the biggest advantage for normal peeps is that java multithreads big time so all java apps, especially the expensive engineering apps will smoke. my 2 dual xeon workstations are almost identical except the e7500 chip v i860 the i860 with rambus runs so much cleaner than the e7500 with ddr that i wont build another dual xeon with ddr.

64Bit Computing, A bit too much?

isnt it just like when we had 32bit proc but only 16bit os's? no impact until 32bit software/os's came around. i'll stick with my xeon's for now

    GOT GAS?

    they do have fuel cells
  19. wow there is sunthin wrong with that. "system" should be nothin. try looking at the device manager and see if there is sunthin foul. sounds like a hardware issue. but there is more info needed. if nothing is wrong in the device manager i myself would reload xp and check each step until the problem shows itself.

    www.microsoft.com is powered by linux

since ws is the most widely used os in the world it would makes sense that it would also be the most hacked and slashed. changing to a competitive os makes a ton of sense
