    Redhat 8.0 recovery

    Hello, I am very new to redhat and attempting to create a backup of one system that can be recovered to another system of the same type and configuration. Attempted to use tomsrtbt and when I attempt to recover my dd created tape it does not see my /dev/sda also have attempted to use.. HAL91 -- minimalistic Linux distribution which says you can install modules but I have not been able to get the optional kernel modules to install keep getting out of space.. arg... this is frustrating shouldn't be this hard. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks, Michelle

    Redhat 8.0 recovery

    well life is getting a little better.. I was able to recover from a tape created with dd with the knoppix cd loaded.. now a new twist.. Does anyone know a way to do this with knoppix as a ram disk image so the cd could be booted then the files restored by dd from a rw cd that was created? Thanks, Michelle

    Has anyone attempted this with knoppix?? Any clue what the standard root password would be? The option above looks good but we are just trying to find a fast down and dirty way to do the following: Load Redhat on a system. Update the kernel as needed for our 3rd party application. Install the third party application. Do some configuration. backup /dev/sda1 and /dev/sda3 to tape go to a new machine use raid manager to configure the disk the same as the last system recover /dev/sda1 and /dev/sda3 from the tape Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

    Hello, I am new to linux so forgive me if this a dumb question. Nvidia was set up on my Redhat system and was working then something happened. Now when I boot I see everything on both of my monitors until the point where it goes to the gui login then it changes to one monitor.- arg .. Can anyone tell me how to correct this problem??

    I'll give it a try My second monitor is a Magview looks like 15inch listed as VM700E Model 772 100-240v 60/50hz on the back. Have to try this one later. I can not thank you for all your help.. this one just makes working hard the two monitors were great when they were working. Thanks, Michelle

    8) Well I am closer -- I do have a twin view but the functionalty is not what I expected.. It shows my desk top on both screens but it use to let me use the second screen as additional works space Ex I could open a terminal window and drag it to my second monitor and have my email up on my first monitor.     Taking a best guess as I do not have the manual for the monitor I entered Horiz freq 30-86 and Vert Freq 50 -150 and i get an error message when attempting to save the configuration with yanc of "No MetaModes definitions found The XF86Config will NOT be saved" What am I doing wrong??
