It's a common sense that replacing a motherboard will be followed by a fresh install of OS (and probably the only component)....because all the system drivers/configuration is much different for every motherboard, even with MBs which have same brand chipset(eg. both intel) or identical chipset but different brand MB. So if you're still persistent on your idea then expect problems showing up.... Also it's HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED to change the chipset drivers manually, because there's a very high probability that windows will not boot (for example manually changing APM -> ACPI drivers, after up[censored] BIOS from non-ACPI to ACPI compliant)

So did you install winxp SP1? It's very important to install this because it will fix a lot of problems including the ones you have. And sometimes USB drivers will fail, indicated by a yellow questionmark in device manager, in this case just click install drivers automatically then it should fix the problem

HDD's starting then stoping coming out of sleep running APM

Then u should try to update to latest first....cuz BIOS updates can fix a lot of ACPI related problems. -

http://www.mayflash.com/PC.asp I'm currently using "Super Dual Box" I got mine in HK, so i dunno where u can buy these things online. But u can search for "Super Dual Box" using google or any other search engine, u should be able to find it easily. Btw the driver found on the mayflash.com is only to enable dual shock/force feedback, so it's optional. But it is absolutely stable, and it works pretty good..... And if you need the latest drivers check here: http://www.mayflash.com/Download/DOWNLOAD.asp

My friend bought the board to a dealer and he saw other ppl complaining about strange problems about their board too. And now KT600 is out and it beats nforce2 in dual channel....this proves that they can still make some good stuff Here's the review: http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NDc2

They need to cheat in order to inflate the score, so that they could appear to be "way" ahead instead of little bit of advantage.

In that case i would recommended to replace the case altogether... -
Here's some recommendation Video: Nvidia - Pete OpenGL ATI - Pete Direct3D note: although opengl is faster, it'll cause some artifacts on ATI Sound: Eternal (very high compatibility, and original sound), others tend to have compat. problems or/and fake sound quality CD-ROM: Pete, although original cd-rom driver works pretty good, it's a bit slower then Pete's

I've used to own a Riva TNT card, and i've tried numerous drivers and i discovered (verified on 3 of my friend's TNT2 and M64) that 28.32 is the best driver for the TNT cards. Newer release will give it problems, 2D animation shutter. But for Geforce 1/2/MX new drivers won't do any harm though, and will give u slightly better performance. P.S. It is recommended to upgrade to latest directx edition (9.0a)

please check/do the following: - ide cables - bent pins - BIOS settings - scandisk - run WD diagnostic software also check case for proper ventilation, cuz too much heat will affect hd operation

I agree that VIA has manufactured some problematic chipset, but that was like long time ago. The most famous example is Pro133a(compatibility), KT133(a)(686B+SB live! ATA100 data corruption), KT266(slow speed). Although i'm not fans of VIA by any means, but i think it's not as troublesome as you've think of. From KT266A & onwards, it's stability has been vastly improved. Any board(with any chipset) will have their own compatibility/stability problems, including nforce2, http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=8250 , http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=8014 (initially it has tons of problem and release date has been pushed back by a few times, take them like 1/2 yr to sort out the serious bugs), but eventually they'll be sorted out by BIOS/driver updates and/or chipset revisions. Even though many ppl has a tendency towards asus products (for quality), if you look closely they use the very same components as other manufacturers. So regarding to quality they don't have much advantage against others. Note: SATA is available on majority of newer boards.......only dualLan has spotty availability. Undoubtly Nforce2 offer best performance over VIA offerings, but it came at a cost. A fully loaded Nforce2 board is the most expensive AMD board for single processor. Lastly people often ignore boards which equipped with SIS chipset, but they offer a very good speed/price ratio as well.
-
Asus is the most expensive, even though there's nothing special about it's stability/quality/features....(my friend has 2 asus board and they're more problematic then his new ECS/PCChips motherboard.... MSI board is a good choice since it has good price, and generally less problem. Of cuz fastest board u can get is Nforce2 with dualDDR, but new KT400A is a good choice as well. As long as you have all latest BIOS/driver/windows/application updates VIA chipset will be fine...

Did you try with another pci video card? This happens to my friend as well. He's using windows2000 with ati 8500, and for some reason windows refused to switch to 16 or 32 bit color, it just stay at 256 colors......i've try to uninstall and reinstall all drivers (and install the apporpriate windows updates) that i can and still it's the same. So i think you'll simply have to reinstall windows... P.S. because he's too lazy to format he still uses 256 to play game and watch movie... -
Did you install Dial-up 1.3 performance update?
