for multimedia i would go for XMMS has lot of plugins and looks really kewl... anti virri: i beleave sophos has an e-mail scanner for *NIX.... you don't need one for linux but they are usefull if you don't want to infect your windows loving friends

best browser for linux... must be galeon. it's fast, uses little system resources and you can use the netscape plugins... plus most important: it's open source
