Because when you are running the vncserver, you are exporting display 1 or higher not display 0(which is the desktop you are looking at now). There is only one vncserver package that I know of that will export display 0 and that is x0rfbserver. http://www.hexonet.de/software/x0rfbserver/

Nvidia GeForce 4 under Mandrake Linux 8.2 or 9?
punkisdead replied to Linuxboy00's topic in Linux Hardware
Let me guess......... You are using Redhat 8.0? If this is the case, get the rpms and follow the installation howto. -
Are you trying to export the current display, PC Anywhere style for remote control? Or are you just trying to export any display i.e. trying to run the applications residing on the one PC regardless of which display.

If ogle is looking for /dev/dvd all you need to do is create a symlink to /dev/hdg then. It's very simple. All you do is cd into /dev directory su to root and type the following: ln -s /dev/hdg dvd As far as getting xine to read dvd's, I had it working at one time about 2 years ago. I haven't tried again lately since I ran across a developer copy of LinDVD.

I like the idea, causes less confusion as to where to post something.

It sounds like it's trying to start X. I had the same behavior when I mucked up my video card driver and settings. When you ssh into it type "ps aux" and look for anything running like xdm or gdm or kdm or X. then kill that process.

Mandrake Linux 9.0 - Compaq MV540 monitor not detected
punkisdead replied to avins's topic in Linux Hardware
Go to compaq's support site and find out the technical specs for the monitor, the vertical and horizontal refresh rates. Every monitor is supported, just some aren't listed. When you find these values then either during the install you can choose custom monitor or after it's been installed you can try to reconfigure X and input these values. -
Accessing Linux partitions from Windows
punkisdead replied to Admiral LSD's topic in Everything Linux
I beleive the program you are looking for is called paragon ext2 anywhere. I have it on one of my machines and it works flawlessly. It treats your linux partitions just as if they were windows partitions. -
You do realize that you don't need to run this with KDE, right? All you need to do is install the necessary libs and you can run this in any window manager.

You might want to get your hands on the smb.conf file from mandrake's latest release. Of all the sample config files, this one made the most sense.

Lindows 3.0 Anyone running it on their system?
punkisdead replied to Marktait's topic in Everything Linux
I agree Lindows is shit. I've installed it on my wife's computer, and took it off almost immediately. It runs with root permissions always, not good. Clutch is right, libranet 2.7 and xandros are much better. BTW hope you have all weekend to work on your gentoo install. It took hours just to install the x-windows e-build. But it's well worth all the trouble. -
Wine was developed as a windows emulator and is completely open source if I remember correctly. Winex is a windows emulator with emphasis on emulating directx for those of us who like to play games. Also to get the prepacked files from winex you have to subscribe for $5 a month, otherwise you can download the CVS version for free.

Yes you want to do this in a terminal, and no it doesn't matter whether it's from KDE or Gnome.

I've never had a problem with my sb live using any linux distro. In fact I think it's one of the best supported sound cards. Which module are you trying to load, hopefully you are trying the emu10k1 module and not something else.

take a look at this post. http://www.linuxcompatible.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=167

did you look on the sources cd from mandrake?

What other devices are plugged into the usb ports?

Slackware might not be a wise choice for your first experience. Don't get me wrong slack is a great distro, but I would suggest starting with something like Mandrake to get comfortable with linux. Then when as you want to learn more move on to a distro such as slack, debian or gentoo.

Can't get LinkSys NIC to work on Mandrake 9.0
punkisdead replied to repoman1879's topic in Linux Networking
1.) Which linksys card are you using? 2.) Is it working at all? (i.e. when you type ifconfig is there a eth0 listed?) -
which usb root hub module is enabled in your kernel???? It should be USB-OHCI. Type lsmod at the shell prompt and you should see this module loaded, if not try modprobe usb-ohci. That is if it's the same usb module as the first nforce board.....

Why can't I use X with 32MB of Ram?!?!?!
punkisdead replied to repoman1879's topic in Everything Linux
That would actually be your onboard graphics card, since it does not have ram of its own, the motherboard will allocate a specified amount of ram from the first ram module for video. Which in your case is only 6MB. Try an older distro of Mandrake or Redhat and you shouldn't have an issue. -
sorry can't help you there. If you would have said internal or parallel, maybe but I think you might want to start with making sure usb-mass storage is enabled in your kernel.

To check 3d performance just open up a terminal window and type : glxgears You should get a fps of at least 2000. What is the issue with your zip drive???
