(XP/2k/2k/linux) network with shared printer on 2kPro access difficulties
tessx replied to tessx's topic in Networking
Hum Maybe I can simplify the question: How can I create on my PrinterPC a "workgroup user" ? When changing settings in the security tab of my printer, i can only choose in the "look in/search in" field my local computer. besides, when I add a "guest" account, it adds PinterPC\guest maybe that's why a remote guest cannot connect ? Would I need some sort of WORKGROUP\guest ? -
(XP/2k/2k/linux) network with shared printer on 2kPro access difficulties
tessx posted a topic in Networking
Hello, I have a network of four computers connected to a router, one running linux, one running XP and two running 2000 Pro. On one of the 2k boxes is a lexmarkX83 connected, which works perfectly locally. Except for the linux box, the other computers can print IF I first login by typing \\PrintPC and entering admin identification. If I use guest mode, I can access the printer, but when start printing, it sends about 4bytes of data to the computer and stays in the queue (and after that cannot remove the job, have to restart the PrintPC). So I thought of two solutions to this, but I don't know how to apply them: -Store somehow the admin ID on each computer so when starting up they connect automatically -Create a password-free guest account on PinterPC, which would allow an automatic connection without password storage (and wouldn't require to enter anything) I've tried both but never managed to get it working. Either after a reboot it would say on the "client" boxes that they couldn't establish a connection, or connection refused (if at least it would ask for a password), or it wouldn't print at all with guest account. If anyone has an idea how to solve this, it would be great help (been on this now for more then 12hours) Thanks a lot, tessx -
well for the latest ati for w2k on their support website they tell me that the latest driver is installed with w2k sp2, and that tou can find it in some folder... As for the g4 I have it for 2weeks only but i'll check tonight. Thx

well on none of the machines. sp3 can't coz i don't have any space left (it takes 350megs), ive got dx8.1a on both, well one motherboard has the latest, but the otherone has a strange packard-bell motherboard, so can't do anything about that, and i don't know what WHQL is. sorry :x personnaly i don't think its directx neither sp3, but maybe the others... as i said earlier, one computer has a problem with gta2, and none with HL, and the other one has no prob. with Gta2 and has with hl. quite complicated, i know ;(
-
For wich game is it ? because hl runs fine on one, and gta2 works on the other one... but none have the 2 games running correctly
-
Well the game work well on winme before... even if it wasn't incredibly beautiful, it still worked d3d 640*480. anyway I can't change my videocard, it's integrated to the mainboard... I would have to change the mainboard and even the processor...

Pliz help me ! Well here are the two problems: -I've got a new xp1800+ G4MX440 msi KT3Ultra2 computer and GTA2 goes incredibly fast: with one move you cross the entire city... Ive tried the tab 'frame limit' but then it goes too slow. On another computer running 2k also (a celeron 368 ati rage 8mb), it works fine. I didnt find any patch or anything. What can I do ? -Now for half-life, no matter wich version ( i tried from the 1.0.0.7 to the 1.1.1.0), on the second computer (the celeron one), the game only runs on software mode, and won't run on d3d. In d3d it's ugly, and all transparent objects are black, and when I enter the menu, all i get is a black screen. I've got the latest ati driver. Well if anyone could help for one of these games it would be great. thx

;( How do I configure it less agressive ?
-
well thx... I guess I should create a multi-boot with 98...

to dosfreak: just one question, is it reliable ? It's just that I don't like the idea of creating a boot floppy and rebooting with it... Exept the games, my sys works fine, and would quite like it to work for some more time
