Glad it's working for you, Dapper Dan. As Clutch suggested, you may want to check to see if there's a newer firmware revision, sometimes routers/WAPs have some instabilities. Also, I've noticed that the vendor-supplied changelog on the firmware is not always all-inclusive.

Better use Memtest86 to check your RAM... I would re-add all of your RAM, then run http://www.memtest86.com/ to check for errors. Also, you may want to check your BIOS settings for your RAM timings, etc. To be safe, write down the settings, then load the BIOS defaults before running Memtest86.

Correct me if I am wrong (could be, not a steam user), but the way I understand steam, you can (thoeritically) download steam (and/or HL2) onto any PC, using your steam logon... Unless you're concerned about the bandwidth usage, you shouldn't need to make a backup, unless you really want to. I would also think that there would be registry keys that would pertain to steam/hl2 that would need to be considered for backup, too. However, you should be able to split the folder down into smaller pieces by simply burning selected files at a time.

Have you either verified the media thru MD5 hash on the DVD iso or running linux media check at the boot prompt?

Have you tried power-cycling the WAP? Sometimes that's all that's needed.

It will certianly be interesting to see what comes of the latest lawsuits; I think Novell may have the brand-recognition and funding to really make some progress in Linux adoption/migrations. I suppose I should add that Novell Netware was the first NOS that I used and (later) administered, it's good to see them back in the fight, so to speak. Microsoft has made an empire from "good-enough" software. I, for one, don't want "good-enough" any more.

Neither, really. Just leave some space unpartitioned and let Anaconda (the FC installer) auto-partition. You'll need space for a swap partition (usually 1.5x your physical RAM); a boot partition (for GRUB), and finally a partition for your OS installation (typically ext3 or ReiserFS). A reasonably safe bet would be to leave about 10GB of space as "unpartitioned".

Is the card detected and installed correctly (in YaST2 or hardware browser)? I think SUSE 9.1 has IPv6 enabled by default, you may want to try turning that off.

I use Fedora Core 2 (will upgrade to FC3 soon) on my main PC, and Novell Linux Desktop on my old P2 box.

PS: Did your vendor suggest removing the registry keys related to a temporary CAL? Sounds shady to me, or at the very least, it puts you in a questionable position.

Does this only happen when a disc is present in the DVD drive? Do you have any issues using the drive in FC2? In Device Manager, go to "View" and enable "Show hidden devices". I suspect that there is something running in the background that is periodically polling the DVD drive; This could include some copy protection hidden devices (such as StarForce), so that's why I suggested checking Device Manager. A possible alternative is that the DVD drive is failing... But it sounds like you have most of the obvious stuff checked already. You might want to try using SysInternal's Process Explorer (it's freeware) to see what is running when the problem occurs. It's similar in nature to Task Manager, but more comprehensive. Good luck, and post back.

Thanks for posting your solution, but this discussion was from about 2 years ago. Likely the cause of your problem was some cached DNS entries.

What OS was it designed for? Have you tried both DOSbox and VDMsound?

The only one I am aware of is the development version on MSDN, which is likely the same one you saw. You could probably get some iPAQs from eBay (the 3835/3850's are really cheap now) for the development team to test with...

How about some real answers for the OP? First, legally-speaking, the OEM license from your laptop is tied to that hardware. Second, assuming you have a true OEM Windows XP CD (not the CD that came with the laptop) and it's the same version (Home/Professional) as the OEM product key on the laptop's COA, then technically it would be accepted. Every 120 days, the activation records are purged from Microsoft's database (supposedly). This means that if that product key was activated more than 120 days ago, it should activate automatically via the Internet, without the need to phone a rep. Additionally, most major OEMs pre-activate XP installations by registering the GUID string in the BIOS, so that is why customized OEM XP CDs will not work on non-OEM hardware. All that said, I advise you to purchase a legitimately-licensed operating system.

There could be a few different explanations; the Centrino CPU (P4-M) has a 1MB on-die L2 cache (whereas the desktop P4 usually only has 512KB L2 on-die cache, IIRC). Also, desktops (IMO) have nortiously bad power management; it has always been more efficient on mobile PCs (notebooks, tablets, and pdas).
