Ghost Explorer can open/extract file(s) from your images, it is installed when you install Norton Ghost 2003.
-
That will work, but you'll break the boot menu. After reinstalling 98/ME then you'll most likely need to perform a repair installation of Windows XP, or manually configure it, if you're comfortable doing so.

Everything there looks good. You tried a new 400W power supply, right? No change? Also, can you try something like looping the benchmark of 3Dmark '03?

Just for the sake of discussion, can you try everything with the XP SP2 client disconnected? You could just temporarily power it down. SP2 changes lots of Wireless config options, so temporarily disconnecting it from your network would greatly narrow the scope of your troubleshooting. Good luck

Quote: A few computer companies such as Gateway, Dell and many others, tell me the problem is within the Windows XP files from Microsoft. They can't be bothered to actually think outside of their script to try and troubleshoot the real problem. Quote: The problem goes back to the Microsoft Net FrameWork 1.1! After that program is installed the problems ar to many to explain. Do you explicitly need the .NET Framework installed? Or perhaps you're just installing it because it's offered on windowsupdate.microsoft.com ? Quote: Now they want to put out Microsoft Longhorn! The problems will be in the new version of Windows also. Ok... Perhaps you have some inside information on Longhorn that you care to share? If you have identified the problems already, then by all means forward your bug reports to Microsoft! But now if you're basing your opinion on the PDC build (which is/was only available to attendees of the PDC show and MSDN members) then there's also a good chance that the issue(s) that you have experienced have since been solved in a later build. You do understand the term beta software, correct? Quote: On a clean install with nothing else other than Windows XP Sp2 installed. Shutting down the computer would not shut down properly. Again, sounds like a hardware/BIOS config problem, probably your power management is bugged up somewhere. I just get tired of people placing blame for PC frustrations incorrectly.

XP moved from one system to another fails to start

Unless you encrypted the partition/volume with EFS then yes, you should be able to add that drive in another system as a "slave" in order to retrieve data from it. -

Nope, that's your IDE controllers, that's the interface for your hard disk(s) and CD/DVD drive(s). Chances are it's automatically disabled when a PCI/AGP add-in card is present.

Long story short, it may be *possible*, but not worth the time. YOu would have to remove all the old system drivers, and essentially sysprep the installation to remove SIDs as well, plus you would likely take a performance/stability hit. Best bet is to reinstall from scratch when you change a motherboard. Too much hardware is intergrated to be bothered trying to band-aid the system. -

Ah ha! I suspected it was a routing issue... What I would do would be deny routing of the 205.x.x.x addresses externally on either your perimeter routers or firewalls. Thanks for that little "tid-bit" of information, I think it was the missing link! Of course the more proper solution would be to change your IP address scheme, but that could take time and downtime depending on how large your infastructure is. Anyway, hope that helps, let me know if you need any more information. PS: RFC 1918 is a great guide! -
How can i set up a webserver, an email server and DNS in win2000
adamvjackson replied to a.g.e.nt_01's topic in Networking
Are you asking how those components are installed or how to configure those components? You can install them thru Add/Remove Programs - Windows Components. Configuring them could *easily* take several weeks of classes, depending on how much you already know. Best suggestion? Get some books, and start reading. The Microsoft Press books are quite good and comprehensive. -
Not to troll here, but if you don't use ActiveX, you should really at least *try* either Mozilla or Mozilla Firefox, I think you'll be impressed. Just try it for a few days...

*most* of the time, the on-board graphics are automagically disabled when a PCI/AGP add-in card is installed. Best to verify in the BIOS though, usually under a heading called Intergrated Periphials. Good luck

You have a few options, assuming you have access to another PC (which you likely do, as you posted here ) You could use something like Bart's PE Builder, and create a "restore" CD and copy the backup that way. You could use the recovery console, or reinstall with the "repair" option. You could try to manually edit the registry with a tool such as this. You could use Knoppix or a similar bootable Linux CD to perform the same tasks as well.

How to VIOLENTLY delete files from NTFS partitions?
adamvjackson replied to dr_st's topic in Customization & Tweaking
DR_ST, you may be interested in knowing that the Offline NT Password & Registry editor that was linked to above was just updated a few days ago, apparently fixing a bug that could happen when writing back to the NTFS partition. So should you use it, I would recommend an upgrade. I just happened across that page a few days ago, and it's definately a great, great tool. Cheers -
<rant> Why, oh WHY do poeple insist on installing an OS from 6 years ago on NEW hardware?? You just bought a bunch of new hardware, you *could have* qualified for an OEM license of Windows XP, which would have been around $100 USD (+/-). No, the Dell XP install CD won't work, and that would also be against your EULA. ALL OEM software is LOCKED to the PC that it came with, it CANNOT be transferred to any other PC, ever. About FC1 and RH9 not installing, did you verify the MD5's of the .isos after downloading? If so, and if you tried booting from disc 2 as well (I recall that some distro(s) actually had disc 2 bootable instead of disc 1) then it may be a hardware issue. Have you tried basic things, such as verifying jumper settings, IDE cables, BIOS settings, etc?

Are you using mostly DHCP for client IP addresses? How about NetBIOS? The SNAP server that I have at work wants to be the "master" browser, so perhaps that is causing an issue? Do you have any VLANS or different subnets/routing that's non-standard? -
The computer model is usually a 3-4 digit number on the front or back of the PC. If you are unable to find this model number, it may be necessary to contact Compaq support, as they can correctly identify which model PC and soundcard you have, so you can get the correct driver.

Another thing that may/may not be worth the time/effort would be to try a different video card; since it seems that you are most likely within your exchange period from the retailer where you purchased the video card. That is assuming the ATI/SIS video card conflict is accurate. It may very well be, too. If you do choose to do this, just for the sake of comparision, I would try a card from Nvidia, not saying one's better than the other at this point at all, just trying to narrow the problem. Also, if you do swap the PSU from your older PC, make sure it's rated at least as high (300W) as your current PSU, and that all the connections (including the color of the wire insulation on the large 20-pin connecter) are the same to minimize the risk of damage. Good luck, and post your results

Are you using WINS in your environment? Have you configured that on the XP clients? Is your domain NT4, 2000 w/o AD, or 2000 w/ AD in mixed mode? -
How do I use Norton Ghost when my hard disk is dual-booted

Ghost can handle ext2, ext3, and I think experimental support for ReiserFS. -

Auto Backup Folders onto Another Computer and Burn

Xcopy or XXCopy is probably going to be a good place to start. A batch file is just a text file with the exact same commands that you would type at a "DOS" or command prompt.
