Why do you need to get into DOS to replace that file? If it's blocked by Windows File Protection, then WFPdisable is a good solution.
-
98% of the time people should let Windows manage the page file automatically. So just leave it be for (generally) better performance. It would probably be more beneficial to disable the indexing service, clean unneeded temp files, and defragment your hard drive.

Yep. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx It can break some things, be sure to read what's new and changed first, as you should with most all software.

Yep, Alec is right-on-the-money with this one. I visited the local Charter NOC sometime last year, and I can ASSURE you that all upstream traffic is monitored, and all P2P traffic IS being logged. Be careful with your TOS/AUP!

Yep, that message is almost *always* a problem with either the video driver or video hardware.

I recently decided to play this on my Windows XP Professional SP1 system, and it worked just fine. I have a Nvidia Geforce4 ti4400 with the latest (at the time...) drivers. If objects that should appear are off the screen, check your resolution, refresh rates, etc., as with some monitors, the screen geomotrey can be greatly altered with different modes.

Sounds like either a corrupt profile for the power user, or if you copied the user profile from another account (different SID as well) then you'll need to grant permission for the power user to use the account. If you need any clarification just post, and good luck

It's the only reason why I can't deploy either some Linux workstations or at least Mozilla/Firefox to the Windows Desktops. Frustrating, yes; but realistic of real-world scenarios. BTW, I am a Firefox user at work and home since version 0.4 (Phoenix, Firebird, now Firefox). Cheers.

Guys, what are non-internet routable IP addy octets again?

Always, always, always consult the RFC's... http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1918.html -
Games that use the Q3 engine (and the lagometer as well) the top bar refers to the server that you're connected to. So it would seem that it's the server lagging, not your PC/ISP/connection. The green line on the bottom is your connection, which looks great, probably about a 20-30 ping

Have you checked to see if Belkin offers a newer driver (newer by either version or date) than the one you have installed? That would be the 1st thing to try.

Password Protecting a Folder in Windows NT 4.0
adamvjackson replied to JodithPWorld's topic in Everything New Technology
That is possible, but only if you connect via a mapped drive and specify the alternate username/password when establishing the connection. -
Are you using Active Directory? Native mode or Mixed mode? Any WINS servers? Is NetBIOS over TCP/IP enabled or disabled in your DHCP scope?

The current version of SAV is 9.x, and patching to 9.0.1400 does add compliance with the XP SP2 security center. Supposedly, a patch for the 8.x version(s) will be forthcoming at a later date.

What exactly causes that error message? Does it happen every time? Can you run other OpenGL/Direct3D games ok? Have you recently installed/uninstalled any software, hardware, or drivers?

How to VIOLENTLY delete files from NTFS partitions?
adamvjackson replied to dr_st's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Yeah, I add my apologies into the mix as well, as I kind of caused the thread to get off-topic. Not sure if Alec or anyone else for that matter mentioned this, but if you want a semi-GUI for the DELTREE (exclusively for removal of 'Program Files' and 'Windows/WINNT') you may want to look at Bart's PE Builder. And again, I'm sorry, hopefully there's no hard feelings or anything. My only reason for posting at this site is to help others, and hopefully my semi-offtopic posts can someday be useful to another reader. Cheers. -
Fix your broken DNS; it's the most common reason for slow login times.

Password Protecting a Folder in Windows NT 4.0

Best practice for share-level access control is to utilize NTFS file/folder level permissions vs. password protections. Is it feasible to assign the appropriate NTFS permissions vs. password protecting your share? -
Just because it's possible to do something with a PC/software doesn't mean it's legal/ethical/right to do so. Apply as you see fit

MSI doesn't make video cards. They resell them. You most likely have an ATI or Nvidia chipset on an MSI PCB. Of course, if you have previously played it on that same computer, and haven't changed any hardware around, you most likely need to reinstall your video drivers. The error you are recieving is triggered by the OpenGL subsystem, which is a feature/subset of your video drivers. Most likely you have an ATI, Nvidia, or Matrox video card. Please consult your system manufacturer or documentation for your specifications. Once you know what hardware you have, you can download an appropriate video driver from the manufacturer's web site. -

<slightly-offtopic> Sysinternals has some great monitoring software, such as Diskmon, Filemon, Regmon, and as you mentioned, Process Explorer. Also, I really like the AccessEnum and ShareEnum tools to quickly audit permissions. If you haven't checked those two tools out, you should. Anyway, cheers </slightly-offtopic>
