Pkf, I downloaded the RC2 from the public site, from the link you provided. Previously, I had been downloading from http://windowsbeta.microsoft.com. The download was successful (in about 10 minutes, I'm loving my 4Mb connection), and the extraction was also successful, as you can see in this screenshot: http://webpages.charter.net/adamvjackson/xpsp2.jpg Not sure what problem you're having. I have WinRAR installed and right-clicked on the xpSP2.exe and chose "Extract to xpSP2" (creating a new folder).

BHODemon 2.0.x & my feelings that MS should incorporate this into IE
adamvjackson posted a topic in Security
Heck, I say bring back the custom installation options from the 9x product family, so I can prohibit the installation of IE, at least as much as possible. After all, BITS can be used to get Windows Updates from an SUS/WUS server, so no need for IE for Windows Update(s). I don't want that crap on my installation... Actually, forget it, I'll just force myself to make the switch to linux that I've been procrastinating over. I have been implementing it at work lately anyway, and I think it's ready for everything from the database servers, internet gateways, firewalls, and end user desktops. The finance department agree's with me, too -
Can you add a meta refresh after logging in, and after logging out? It seems redundant to have to click on the link to return to the home page after both login/logout. Also, what is the session timeout? After how many minutes is a user automatically logged out? Thanks...

Microsoft Virtual PC is "supported" on Windows XP Professional, but "unsupported" on XP Home. That said, it does install and function fine, although some of the networking features, such as host-based, NAT, etc., may not function as intented.

First, this thread is about 3 years old, it's not about Service Pack 2 for Windows XP. Second, as I have downloaded the RC2 builds of SP2 several times, I can assure you that the copy/copies on Microsoft's server farm is/are not corrupt. You may wish to try a download manager if your downloads are corrupting.

Do you have multiple domain controllers? Has replication occured?

Can you reinstall Norton Antivirus and then try another uninstallation? Also, if you're running 2000/XP check your services.msc to see if there is a NAV service still installed/running. If so, disable the service.

Multiple TCP/IP, computer name, and domain in XP. How To???
adamvjackson replied to Dr Love's topic in Networking
Well, I didn't receive your PM, but that's ok... I will have to check on my 'old' hard drive tonight for that file, I'm not sure if I still have it to be honest. I'll let you know either way, though. -
Is there a way to run something on a current win2k sp4 install to detect and rep
adamvjackson replied to tgg's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Windows 2000 doesn't have system restore, that's a Windows ME and XP feature. Windows 2000 does have SFC (System File Checker) that may help, however. From a "Run" box type: sfc /scannow You may be asked for your installation media (usually your Windows 2000 CD) so be sure to have that nearby. -
Did your mouse come with a USB-PS2 adapter? Have you tried that?

XP - IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL !!! PLEASE HELP!!!
adamvjackson replied to pasnip2000's topic in Legacy OS
Extra, extra, read all about it!! http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=810980 CAUSE This behavior may occur if you use a Logitech mouse and the version of the Logitech MouseWare program that is installed on the computer is outdated. This behavior is known to occur with Logitech MouseWare versions 9.10 and 9.24. RESOLUTION To resolve this behavior, remove the Logitech MouseWare program from the computer and then update to the latest version of Logitech MouseWare. For more information about how to remove Logitech MouseWare from the computer, see the program documentation or contact Logitech. For more information about how to obtain and install the latest version of Logitech MouseWare, contact Logitech at the following Logitech Web site: http://www.logitech.com -
Well, I have a Geforce4 Ti4400 (128MB, if you're curious) and I use the latest (official 56.72) drivers. With dual monitors (both analog CRT), I occasionally get that same error. I would suggest to both of you that you downgrade your driver versions to an earlier version. You can get older drivers here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp-2k_archive.html Good luck, and let me know if that helps.

How to protect folder through password without using any software in windows 200
adamvjackson replied to archana's topic in Software
The best thing would be to use NTFS permissions, without your logon credentials, all access is denied to those folders/files. -
Multiple TCP/IP, computer name, and domain in XP. How To???

I haven't had anyone email me asking for it, and I had completely forgotten about this thread, so it's totally your decision. Thanks! -
There may be two helpful extentions, the tabbed browser extentions, and there's another one (sorry, I really can't recall the name) that forces all new windows to open in a new tab. Check the extentions page of Mozdev.

Actually, since an OEM license from Microsoft is 'tied' to the hardware, it is REQUIRED to accompany the hardware when/if the hardware is sold.

Linksys Broadband Router - some websites are inaccessible
adamvjackson replied to Phalanx-Imawano's topic in Slack Space
Use a different DNS server, and see if that improves? You can manually specify the DNS server IP address in the DHCP/Setup tab of your router. Here are some root server IP addresses, some may be closer/faster than others, you can 'ping' the addresses to see what's closest to you. 128.63.2.53 192.33.4.12 128.8.10.90 192.203.230.10 192.5.5.241 Good luck -
The recovery console is NOT installed by default. To install it, from a cmd shell, navigate to your installation media, and type: winnt32 /cmdcons And yes, the version of userinit.exe DOES matter. If you can log in to the workstation with an account that has administrative privliges, you can type: sfc /scannow That shoud restore any missing/corrupted system files from the cache, assuming that hasn't been tampered with.

Swt1a1, do you have the SDDR-05a or the SDDR-05b? http://www.sandisk.com/retail/drivers-sddr-05a.asp http://www.sandisk.com/retail/drivers-sddr-05b.asp Not sure what you meant about the Sandisk web site, I was able to find those two links in less than a minute, right where I would have expected them to be. If you're having problems with the suggested actions as provided in the links above, Sandisk advises you to contact them at: http://www.customernation.com/pls/ps/ps....&p_product= Also, it is generally bad practice to request e-mail only responses, as then future readers do not see the solution.

Replacing a dell motherboard - cheaper than just buying new ram
adamvjackson replied to Ickis's topic in Hardware
As PTS has pointed out, make SURE that the power supply that you buy is Dell-compatible. Not sure if your motherboard is affected or not, but around the P3-era Dell produced some power supplies/motherboard combinations that were NOT ATX compliant, although the connector was the same. Connecting an ATX-complaint power supply to these motherboards would destroy the board.
