If you use RAS/RADIUS or VPN, then yes.

Not sure on that one, since the recycle bin is a per-machine setting, maybe someone else may have an idea.

Running fine here, on 2000 SP2, SP3, and SP4, and XP, XP SP1. Great game, by the way, if you haven't played it, it's well worth the $9.99 bargin bin price it now sells for. Also saw it packaged with Clive Barker's Undying for a total of $9.99 for both games last time I was at Wal-Mart. A good deal for two great games.

jmmijo mentions some good emulation packages, but you'll probably have better luck with VDMSound. If not, try asking at the VOGONS forums.

Bootable CDs (ala Knoppix) are another option, some can save config files to either a floppy or USB flash drive, so that's an option too. Plug for Knoppix here, and it's spin-offs: ClusterKnoppix Knoppix STD (Intrusion detection, etc.) KnoppixMAME Also, Movix looks neat too.

CUViper, I see we get the same emails...

jwbreaugh, have you found what you need??

Deny NTFS permissions!! That would be the easiest way to restrict certain users from accessing some folders, although keep in mind that you can have major problems by setting the folder restrictions too tight. Right click on the folder in question, choose the security tab, and customize as you see fit.

How to host software on a Windows 2000 Server Domain
adamvjackson replied to shassouneh's topic in Everything New Technology
I think shassouneh wants to run just one installed copy, possibly via Terminal Server, or something similar. However, since legally you will need to have the same number of licenses either way, (terminal server access or local install) you'd be better off trying to publish the installer via Group Policy as Duhmez has recommended, also performance would be a concern running Office in a Terminal Server environment. There are several commercial packages that can create .MSI packages, they are often referred to as Microsoft Installer Packagers/Wrappers, or something to that effect. You might want to check out http://appdeploy.com/ for some more information on Group Policy publishing of appications. -
Duhmez, a few questions, as I am just learning about codec differences, standards, etc... AC3 audio codec, that's what the audiotrack on most (all?) DVDs are encoded in, correct? If so, the combination of MPEG and AC3 are how pressed DVDs are encoded, right? Now, about XviD... How come at times the DirectShow filter is needed? For example, there was a Wolfenstein video released recently that was encoded using XviD, but playback was very jerky unless the DirectShow filter was installed. Is that due to a bad/buggy compile of the XviD codec? Hopefully I haven't just confused myself further.

Sorry for the 11th hour post, but keep this in mind; Some OEMs have the copy on the recovery CD 'preactivated' with a GUID or something to that effect in the BIOS, so if you're ever in a situation where internet connectivity is not possible within the 14-day activation grace period, reinstalling from the recovery CDs may circumvent that, by design. Not all OEM CDs are that way, obviously, and IIRC, it was primarily desktop systems that did that.

I would recommend Adaptec, simply for the probability of longer support lifetime vs. Belkin, who primarily manufactures cables. Although they probably do use a similar chipset, and most new(er) OS's have native support or patches to add USB 2.0 support, my opinion stays the same.
-
Also, be careful of possible GUID changes if you do choose the image/ghost route, as that could muck up your server quite bad.
-
Advantages would be centralized administration, adding/changing user rights and restrictions, roaming profiles, if you share computers. Also, you can get a free (you may need to pay shipping) 120/180 day evaluation copy of Microsoft's server OS's, so that's a good (legal) route to go if you just want to learn a bit more about p2p/server network structures. Also, asking here is another good way to learn! Sorry for the long hiatus, everyone, I am back now!

Norton Antivirus messing with internet connection
adamvjackson replied to Carolj's topic in Software
How are you connecting to the internet? Dialup modem? Broadband? I suspect that when you connect NAV is immediately contacting the live update server(s) and trying to download updates, saturating your bandwidth. -
You can get a 'Y' adapter that will allow you to connect two sets of headphones, speakers, etc. for only about $4-5 from someplace like Radio Shack. Just connect that to your sound card first, then the speakers into the adapter. Something like this: http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?ca...%5Fid=274%2D879

Quote: I play the 10 map ones. How does that rotation work, besides the standard 6 maps? Also, sorry for the thread hijack, but are you running any 3rd party maps? Any of them any good?

Firebird stalls after extended periods of use
adamvjackson replied to Curley_Boy's topic in Software
That is a known-issue (read, bug) with Mozilla Firebird 0.6, and has been fixed in 0.6.1, as well as the autocomplete crash bug. http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firebird/releases/0.6.1/MozillaFirebird-0.6.1-win32.zip -
Not FPS or action, really, but coming to grips with the fact that any given Final Fantasy game will end. I just recently started replaying VI (the best of the series, in my opinion).

... Experiencing System Shock 2 Quote: Hearing "Dynamite Defused" 2 Secs before Depot is blown in RTCW ET I agree, W:ET has seriously impacted my free time as of late, with these 6 map campaigns, and the good servers/players that I play on/with. Hope to see you online sometime, I always play under the name 'UNP'...

Out of curiousity, what are the current specs? Is the server co-located, hosted, or your own?
-
I think there may be a problem with the css code and/or the new flash ads, as whenever one loads in Mozilla Firebird, the remainder of the page fails to display. Is anyone else experiencing this? I had to resort to logging in with IE to post this!! These are the 460x80 or whatever size banner ads displaying at the top of the forum pages, by the way. The new ads for DNS registration, etc.
-
Out of curiousity, did you happen to do a search for that file? (slayerui.dll) If it is found, you can substitue the path when registering the dll. Again, I've never tried that on an XP install, the file may not even be present.

Actually, I believe creation of those can be disabled via group policy. Will have to check on that later tonight.

Most importantly, is the version you are wishing to sell OEM, Retail box, NFR? Depending on your version, you may not legally be allowed to resell it. If you have the retail boxed version, I would give Microsoft a quick call or email to ensure that the activation/licensing will be transferred without problems. Also of note, about a year ago I needed to transfer a Windows XP Professional license from one machine to another, and there was no problems, after calling MSFT to reactivate and explain the circumstances.
