Quote: ^^^ Sorry m8, this was the first i had heard of the virus, i did notice that on the patch that is was dated July 16th, so i was kind of wondering why i had not heard about it yet. No, it is me that should apologize, I was being a bit smart... Sorry. Not everyone wastes, err, spends as much time surfing the web as I do.

Set up NAT and forward the afflicted ports to an invalid (internal) IP address... Or... Slipstream the patch into your installation media for NT/2000/XP/2003.
-
It'll be OK!! Everyone put an extra layer of tinfoil on your hats! Sorry... Just tired of hearing about this already... The patch has been out for 3+ weeks. ;(

Localhost is hardcoded into the IP stack, are you trying to change your machine IP?
-
The level 4 alert is probably based partially on the percentage of vulnerable systems, approximate percentage of patched systems, rate of attack/spread, etc. With the quantity of attacks in the past 24+ hours, a level 4 seems about right.

Directly connected to the internet? Applied the RPC patch?

Patch all your NT-based systems, quickly, before you help to spread the worm... Please! Edit: Here's the TechNet writeup on the patches, etc. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/?url=/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-026.asp

Good to hear, keep us posted.

Pretty sure ACDSee will do that, for on-screen display anyway. Not sure if you can print it out or not, or if that's what you're asking.

Actually, after a bit of surfing on Asus's site, it seems that same Broadcom chipset is available on several of their P4 boards... And only under the newer boards, such as yours, does the 'Server busy' message pop up when you try to download the drivers. Anyway, here is the correct URL to download the drivers, but it's a slow link at 9KB/S. Broadcom 4401 Fast Ethernet Controller Driver RELEASE 6.5.3 http://www.asus.com/pub/ASUS/lan/broadcom/4401/4401_653.zip By the way, I have the Asus P4B533-E, nice stable board. Anyway, Let me know if that helps at all, or maybe that's the current driver you have anyway?

Some of my most fond gaming memories are from FF2(4) and 3(6).

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe Broadcom is not the NIC manufacturer, but the NIC chipset manufacturer. Try getting updated drivers from the card manufacturer's web site. If that does not apply, and I am wrong, here's another idea: Look for a firmware update to the NIC. I had a Netgear FA-311 several months ago that had the EEPROM set to a Netgear FA-312. That was a known-issue on a series of those NICs, perhaps you've run into a similar problem. Anyway, do you have another NIC you can swap out to troubleshoot? Even a $20 'cheap' NIC will do fine for troubleshooting purposes. Also, all updates from Windows Update? Latest BIOS, firmware for router (if one is being used), latest DirectX, etc.?

Best software firewall for Win2k pro SP4 home user system?
adamvjackson replied to pr-man's topic in Software
Sygate Personal Firewall... I switched from ZoneAlarm back in the 2.6 days, and have not looked back yet. Seems to be the best FREE end user firewall that I've seen. Running it here on 2000 SP4 as well, in case you were curious. -
You could try SnagIt, it has an option to scroll down in the window, to capture the complete contents. However, you might want to think about saving the word document as HTML, as the filesize will be much smaller than .BMP.

How to set floppy for application specific temp files?
adamvjackson replied to ConQueso's topic in Software
What OS is the application running under? If Windows 9x/ME, you may try adding the DOS variables: SET TEMP=A:\ SET TMP=A:\ But I don't suspect that will work. -
How to set floppy for application specific temp files?
adamvjackson replied to ConQueso's topic in Software
He may need or wish to use a floppy for somewhat enhanced security, since it is a financial program. -
How many processes do you have running?

34, with loads of (useless) stuff running. -
Quote: Mozilla/Firebird seconded here. Since I stopped using my old favourite IE5 in preference to Mozilla & Firebird I've not seen a popup in a very long time, for the post part I've forgotten about them. Combine that browser with the Outpost Pro firewall which also kills ads and you've got sweet browsing True, but Firebird can block ads, too... Next time you see a banner ad, right click on it, and choose 'Block images from this server'. Of course, you'll want to verify the domain first, something like ads.doubleclick.com or images.clickthru.com... You get the idea, anyway.

Out of curiousity, did you get your name from Final Fantasy 4 (2 in US)?

Quote: Thanks for the tip I'll keep that in mind if I play with it some more. All I have is the 120 Day trial. No problem, currently all I have is the evaluation copy too. If you're interested, by the way, if you order the Exchange 2003 evaluation kit, you can get a copy of Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition for evaluation, too. Although not too much of a difference between that and the Enterprise Edition, at least for evaluation purposes. While semi-on topic about operating systems, Gentoo Linux 1.4 was released today... Finally out of beta/RC!!

Quote: By default Windows 2003 has Win2K's UI, but I think there's a way to install the Windows XP UIs. You need to enable and start the Windows Themes service.
-
Or, if this is a one-time project, you can download the trial/evaluation version of Adobe Photoshop 7.0.1, which is fully-functional (including saving of files) for 30 days.

Quote: Here's the biggest thing to watch out for, if you install a new stick of memory into the machine and it only shows half the memory of that stick, then your motherboard may not properly support high-density ram modules. Sorry to nitpick, but that's not necessarily correct. If adding a new stick only half is addressed, there's a good chance that the motherboard cannot support double-sided memory modules. As an example, my current workstation motherboard, an Asus P4B533-E with the Intel 845-E chipset, supports the following memory configurations: Slot 1: Any single or double-sided module, up to 1GB. Slot 2: Any single or double-sided module, up to 1GB. Slot 3: If slot 2 has a double sided module, then slot 3 must be vacant. If slot 2 has a single-sided module, then only a single-sided module may be placed in slot 3. Note that if single-sided modules are used in both slots 2 and 3, they may each be 1GB sticks, for a system (chipset) total limitation of 3GB. Hope that clears things up a bit, and jmmijo was correct about Windows 9x and the vcache patch.

Save the text as a .cmd file, and copy that to your startup folder, or add a registry key to load that cmd file. -
