Has anyone gotten Epic:Final Liberation to work in XP?
adamvjackson replied to Namarie's topic in Games
Cool, as always, thanks for posting the fix, too. -
8 bits = 1 byte, so the answer to your question would be no. You'd be looking at more like 12-16 seconds per GB. Of course that would be dependant upon hard drives, etc, being able to keep up with that speed, which they cannot (yet).

No problem, hope you get everything working.

Run chkdsk/scandisk. Or, you could boot into the recovery console and remove from there.

Quote: do not get a Ti or g4 - out of date - why buy card that will be ueseless - think future ATi 9500 or 9100 - they are Dx9 compatible - yes i know nothing uses it yet, but better to buy something that can use it when it is in palce so in 6 months your not buying yet another card because your ti won't play games. While I understand your points, and to a degree, agree with you, I am going to pose this question for no other reason than to be a jerk. Don't take it personally... What games (currently) REQUIRE a DirectX 8.x card? I know that some games can take ADVANTAGE of such cards (obviously...) but are there any cards that require >GeForce2/3 etc?

You would forward the ports mentioned in the KB article to the machine behind the router that you want to send/recieve files from. This should have an IP of something like: 192.168.1.101.

"Z.I.F Local Bus" Motherboard..........WTF is it?
adamvjackson replied to videobruce's topic in Hardware
Technically, VESA ran at 40MHz and PCI at 33MHz. So, at the time, VLB was superior. But again, VHS vs BETA. -

VESA was only used for graphics, as I remember. -
"Z.I.F Local Bus" Motherboard..........WTF is it?
adamvjackson replied to videobruce's topic in Hardware
Quote: No, that's not a typpo, a friend has a computer dated 11/94 that lists a Z.I.F. local bus for the Motherboard. It goes on to describe it as "allowing you to upgrade your system in the future as oppose to replacing it". Now, for the local bus part: I suspect that was referring to VESA-local bus, which would fit in the same timeframe as the ZIF socket becoming mainstream. However... What you have to do now, is open the case up, and post some pictures! -
"Z.I.F Local Bus" Motherboard..........WTF is it?
adamvjackson replied to videobruce's topic in Hardware
I would wager that it referred to the CPU socket. If I recall correctly, some of the pre-ZIF systems actually had the CPU soldered to the board. But it's been awhile, and my memory is not everything it used to be., -
Running fine here, under 2000 SP3 and SP4.

There have been three builds released to testers.

I would look at getting a Nvidia Geforce4 ti4200, seems to be a great bang/buck ratio. Just looked on http://www.pricewatch.com (not the best, but a decent pricing benchmark) and the above card sells for about $120 USD. That's with 128MB of RAM, too.

What software do you use for Mp3/Wav playback?
adamvjackson replied to Lotus's topic in Everything New Technology
Quote: I despise it. I use it for ripping and but no playing. I do use it for syncing up my ipod though. It has a habit of chopping off letters at the end of mp3 tags. Hopefully when I finally get the new version downloaded, this won't be an issue. I just have to go though my 2000 mp3s and replace the ones with bad tags. As I said, I despise it. I do like the "tag from filename" feature enough to keep it on my system. I had a command line app I wrote for that but it wasn't as full featured. I am planning on creating another one when I get some free time. I've been there, I know it's a pain. I used Tag&Rename to recreate the ID3 tags automatically though. You might want to look into that. -
There is some commercially available software that creates boot disks, I know Ontrack's EasyRecovery Professional does so, but it is also fairly expensive.

Quote: i don't think its a good idea to install beta sp's on daily use computer. there aren't things in beta sp that you really need now, wait few weeks and get final SP's.. this is my opinion ;( I would agree with that, but I am in the technicial beta for SP4, so it's a requirement, of course...

... From the 'Even more ways to waste time' department comes this: An Apple //e Emulator! Now you can relive all the old days of computing! And, some floppy disk images, too! *Note to mods: I couldn't find any licensing info on the images. If you feel the link to the images should not be posted, feel free to remove link or delete as you see fit.

Wow, I must've been sleepy when I wrote that initial post. First, it's ZSNESwin, not ZNESwin... Second, I use RockNES-X for NES emulation, which works well. I have yet to run into any problems with the emulation.

Anyone have any info on WindowsPE? All I've found is this Microsoft page. I thought I had heard or read that it would be included with Windows Server 2003... Did I imagine that?
-
No problem; Perhaps by then some others will add their suggestions.

Norton Anti-Virus Corp 7.6 is running on both of my servers... But they are currently running 2000 Std. Server. At any rate, glad you got everything working, I sure wouldn't run any internet-connected PC without Anti-Virus software, in addition to being behind NAT.

Quote: I don't have the retail ver of 2003 yet but I heard that it comes in the box with it. You can also aquire Windows PE when buying OEM equipment. Hopefully so. I am going to the local Windows Server 2003 launch event on Tuesday, so I can find out some info first hand. It wasn't included on the evaluation CD image, as I had speculated it would. I was mostly interested in creating some bootable CDs with recovery utilities, hardware and network analsys tools, etc. similar to Knoppix. Anyway, I'll be sure to report back to everyone what I do find out. Thanks for your input.

Anyone know how to access the log for system shutdowns? I had read it somewhere, but do not recall. Thanks in advance...
