Windows Server 2003 Shutdown Logging
adamvjackson replied to adamvjackson's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Thanks... Found it just as you posted it. -
I saw someone, somewhere (was it here?) recommend GetDataBack. It goes without saying, that you should pull that drive out, and try recovering in another system. And be sure that you do not write anything to the damaged disk. Good luck.

Damn toner!!

Cool! Kudos for posting the fix, too!

Or A BIOS update; if the USB device is directly connected to the mobo. If running thru a hub, etc, try connecting directly to the board.

Or I hear AVG Free Edition will work too, but I would only run that if you are not licensed for NAV CE.

Windows 2003 Server with multiple domains and email server

Probably would need Exchange for that. -
No problem.

I don't think the 9.0a redistributable package is available yet. If you're looking for the network install of XP SP1a, you can go here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/servicepacks/sp1/sp1lang.asp If you want SP1 (with the MSFT Java VM), search on http://www.filemirrors.com for 'xpsp1_en_x86.exe'.

Perhaps PGP would work for you, or zip/rar the folder up and use a strong password (letters, numbers, and special characters >8 characters in length).

"When it's done" is the general word in the newsgroups, but that seems to point to around June/July.

MGS2=Metal Gear Solid 2; Sons of Liberty IIRC.

NTFS still fragments... Not sure why you thought differently. I doubt that disabling ACPI will do anything but cause more problems for you. Did you try installing the latest Creative drivers? IIRC, Via+Creative=Some incompatibilities. Anyway, give us an update.
-
How about checking your disk defragmentation? Just a thought, as all the other bases seem to have been covered.
-
Videobruce: Have you tried scheduling a disck check for the next reboot? May have some crosslinked files, etc that are causing problems.

Actually, IE in Windows Server 2003 in it's default configuration is pretty secure. Builds after RC2 included the IE hardening pack, which substantially improves browser security. That being said, from a Phoenix, err, Mozilla Firebird user.

The floppy version is designed to be used as a boot disk set, not from within Windows. To use DriveImage within Windows, you would need to install from the CD, as it's a seperate application. I looked in the manual I have for DriveImage 4 (slightly older version) and I didn't find an error 12 referenced, nor did I find anything on the PowerQuest support site.

Did you install DriveImage from the CD or are you trying to run it from the rescue floppies?

Can I use Norton Personal Firewall with Server 2000?

Can I use Norton Personal Firewall with Server 2000?
adamvjackson replied to HeWhoLaughsLast's topic in Software
I am using the free version of the Sygate firewall, and I am very pleased. However, I am also behind a NAT router, a Linksys BEFSR41. I suppose that I use the router to protect against inbound attacks, and the software firewall to limit and control what applications can access the network/internet. I used to use ZoneAlarm for the same reason, but I was not impressed with the 3.x versions, so I started looking at other software firewalls. The Sygate firewall does everything I need, it's free, and I have yet to see another free firewall package that has as good logging features. If you are learning the Windows 2000 Server Family operating systems, as it sounds that you are, you may be interested in this as well: Microsoft has available for free download (registration via passport req'd) Microsoft ISA Server Standard and Enterprise Editions.* Each weighs in around 12MB, and it can be a great learning experience installing and configuring. Also, you may want to snag IIS Lockdown from the Microsoft download site while you're at it, as you can't be too secure. Hope that helps, let me know if you need more information, links, clairifications, etc. Edit * Forgot to mention that those were 120-day time-limited evaluation copies; Sorry if there was any misunderstandings. -

Not sure if Norton PF works with Windows Server 2003/Windows 2000 Server Family or not, but Sygate Personal Firewall does. If you're having as many attacks as you say you are, you might want to stick that server behind a NAT router/firewall/ISA box. -
Windows 2000; A POS? That seriously brought a smile to my face...

http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winserver2003_editions.asp Looks like only the Enterprise Server edition supports hot adding of RAM.
